The relaunch of PSN is supposedly going to start rolling out in a few hours. There's a map up on the Sony blog that's going to slowly light up over time to represent what states/regions have the service ready.
At the moment, booting up the PS3 gets you a message telling you to go to the Sign In option, but then you're told your password is no longer valid. Then it tells you the service is still under maintenance. Sony is supposed to start sending out e-mails about changing passwords. |

Yeah, it's back now.
Store is still down, though, which makes me sad because PSN shit the bed right as I was ready to download Arcana Heart 3 and Dino Crisis 2. |

The store still isn't up? That's extremely disappointing, since that's all I use on the thing.
I wonder how much deals they'll put on for this. Kaz Hirai looked like he was going to cry in the press release. _________________

Well everyone's getting a month of PS+, and the EU blog has stated that PS3 users will get 2 free games from a selection of 4 and 2 free PSP games from a selection of 5. The rest of the world will probably have similar freebees.
I can't believe how much I've missed Toro Station.
Oh you remember how Sony said that you'd only be able to change your password from the PS3 the account was created on? Nope! I changed the password on mine just fine, and I made that on a friend's PS3 a year before I owned one myself. You don't even need to input the existing password. _________________

I get an error when I try to access the account management option, which is kind of pissing me off.
Some people who bought Mortal Kombat for the PS3 during the outage are realising that the online pass is somehow tied to the store, so they still can't play it online. Online passes are a great idea. Yeah. |

Seems like Sony is only doing themselves further disservice by bringing up the network a piece at a time, aggravating people even more.
I mean, I can have patience, but since they've already made people wait longer than expected, why not take another day or two to get everything up all at once? _________________

Which do you think is more aggravating: not being able to access the store, or not being able to play any multiplayer games? _________________

I agree that the multiplayer is more important, but I think you're missing the point.
When I turned on my PS3 to access Netflix yesterday, I found there was a new patch. Was PSN up? Not yet—they just put up a patch that, at least for the next several hours, didn't seem to do anything at all. I (and my girlfriend and Ghost Dinosaur, who was there) laughed at this, because it seemed kind of silly that they'd tease people like that. So now the PSN is back up, which is cool, but I'm sure there are plenty of people looking forward to accessing their accounts, the store, etc. and it seems obvious that having it all back up at once would've been more satisfying. I'm only saying this because this whole event has been kind of a PR disaster for Sony and I think they've handled it miserably from the start. _________________

Or, they could throw the online store right up, without making sure that people who have their accounts compromised end up having people buy things without any sort of frontal checking
Basically it would be stupid to get the store up so prematurely |

I wasn't saying anything about getting it up prematurely. Remember where I said, "why not take another day or two to get everything up all at once?"
Now you've got page after page of kids commenting on the latest PSN blog update, freaking out because PSN is down again. It seems to be up and running for me, but my point is that they're kind of jerking people around at the moment. I understand that it makes sense to have the multiplayer available again as soon as possible, but this is all kind of silly.
edit: Furthermore, looks like Atlus still has its Demon's Souls servers down, anyway, and that's the only game I'd be playing online. Oh, well. _________________

We'll see how that works out. So far, today, the PSN has been up and down all day anyway, so... _________________

It would hope that this is at least making Rockstar reconsider the LA Noire Playstation 3 exclusive DLC (that won't be available until the end of the month apparently). Xbox 360 Exclusive: Online play and preorder missions that work.
Note: I'm getting this on PS3 regardless because neither of these things matter to me.

GOOD!
I had just assumed based on GTA4 and RDR that they'd throw something similarly pointless in there.

Not really multiplayer but the game does have an online functionality. Whether or not anyone will want to use it will depend on how bad they are at the game/how bad the game is at dropping enough hints for the player normally. |
I think that there is actually a lot of potentiality that lies dormant within the Rockstar Social Club. In fact, I see this instance over and over again, regarding community based programs that can provide both assistance and additional challenge, such as the EA Gun Club, which featured some actual DLC as incentive in the case of Medal of Honor.
Also, anything is better than arbitrary and forced multiplayer. However, I also have to comment on the fact that the ability to ask about a case in general, seems, well, somewhat self-defeating in the purpose of the game. We'll have to wait and see how it plays out I suppose. That argument might boil down to a matter of preference regarding outside assistance. |

RDR's free roam was really great, almost. I just don't think they knew what to really do with it, or there were technical limitations or something. Also you had to play it with buddies, you couldn't just hop on and hope that maybe the sociopaths weren't out in force that day. _________________

Didn't RDR have some single player stuff that Rockstar Social Club did? Challenges, I think? Did anything happen if you completed them (and had signed into the Social Club)? _________________

Cave Story 3D is out August 9th (September for Europe), and it's still looking incredibly pointless and shitty. Can't be too bad if Pixel gets some money out of this, though.

As for Europe, your choices are:
LittleBigPlanet
Infamous*
Wipeout HD/Fury
Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
Dead Nation*
*Germany gets Super Stardust HD or Hustle Kings instead.
PSP selections are the same as they are in the US.
I kind of bought Little Big Planet just when PSN went down :/ |

I guess I'll try out Killzone Liberation on the PSP, though.
