Nah, don't get your hopes up. |
Have been waiting fo(u)r years since playing RAW DANGER, and seeing Uncharted 2 and 3 (and the amount of one liners), I think that a zombie-virus-ants-sequel <could> work in a EDF2017-esque way.
Call it despair, but it has been ~six years since I've bought the last Irem-game. Wait, there was R-TYPE TACTICS, so make that four years. _________________

Irem recently removed the Spelunker remake from PSN, so the only games they have left on download services are R-Type Dimensions and a couple Virtual Console titles. I'd expect them to announce their departure from the game industry within the next month or two.
They still have one upcoming game left, though: a 3DS pachinko simulator. I'm sure that will be canceled.
R-Type Tactics didn't interest me when it came out, but I bought it out of pity when I read it was being taken down. Tactics II never got localized. |

I'd be honestly surprised if the Irem as we knew it (2nd-Gen Irem?) manages to get their act together. Not sure if/how many people left after KK left and opened Granzella, but that was probably the last nail, re: coffin. _________________

| God, why can't everyone see Catherine's story elements for the (enjoyable) light-entertainment fluff they are? Is it just because the game is focused on things like RELATIONSHIPS, MONEY, and SEX instead of swords, guns, and aliens? |

It was marketed as being a mature, adult story. If someone decided to not be cynical towards the marketing and ended up being disappointed with the execution, I can see how people would not be able to enjoy it as light fluff. Dashed expectations make the final taste a lot worse.

So can we assume that Tozai Games is inheriting all of Irem's licenses? Are they going to be the guys in charge of R-Type from now on?
That would be...interesting. |

every article I read about this game and every word from naughty dog I just want to toss out the whole video game thing and write about metafictional space in the gaps between narratives in the works of william faulkner until the drugs wear off and pain once again literally warps my vision

Didn't read the article that links to, but in the Game Informer cover story, the hint for the secret character class was that it's Cartman's idea. |

OP Raccoon City looks like it could be neat. I haven't played any Socom games before but a squad-shooter in Resident Evil seems cool, since I played loads of RE3 Nemesis Mercenaries ages ago. I know Rebecca Chambers doesn't fit into the RE2 continuity but her lack of appearance in that trailer is a bummer, I guess there's no room for a pacifist medic :'(
Maybe she's a secret character. |

yeah it'd be neat if they did something like Mercenaries and just added characters that don't belong there. still the idea is interesting. the game itself looks like it could be neat too, surprisingly. i always assumed it was gonna be capcom's answer to left 4 dead, but it looks very different. _________________

Metal Max 2 remake in at 15k less copies than Skyrim 360. I wonder whose idea it was to release it that week at all. Look at what else came out.
I wonder if this will be the end of the series... |

Shocked and a little bit depressed at the Operation Raccoon City froth in this thread. Capcom already lost me at "developed by the SOCOM team" (who the hell even plays SOCOM?), and Slant Six's embarrassing original characters/bizarre obsession with pointing out that their game lets you kill Leon further ensured I'd never play this game.
None of the footage I've seen of it makes me regret this decision. It's a generic, twitchy third person shooter with a RE theme. |

The funny thing is, it's not even the SOCOM team (Zipper), but the SOCOM B-team Sony hired out to do the PSP games and the first PS3 game while Zipper was busy with MAG.
At the very least, the idea of two groups deathmatching while also both under siege by zombies and various parts of the RE bestiary is pretty high concept. At any rate, it's a much more interesting environmental variable than the old standbys of exploding barrels or barely destructible cover. _________________

I'm more interested in the single player campaign for the novelty of being a shadowy agent killing off witnesses instead of a plucky hero. |
