at least it's not IPAD ONLY like the dipshit made it for a while. I can't imagine this is working out for him. steam plug will probably help.
I do want to read it though. I read his final hours stuff back when it used to be on gamespot and they were the best articles on that site. |
Apparently there's an energing market for mixed media articles like that on tablets these days. I agree it's pointless on Steam without the appropriate interface, but at the same time all I remember about the release of the app was the baying of entitled manchildren about how they would never spend $500 or whatever to read the article. That was despite the fact that Geoff publicly stated he was going to do a wider release later but wanted to see if this was a potential money-spinner. |

| They're not buying for the rollercoaster for the most part. Most of the userbase is there to shoot stuff online with their bros and have the game tell them how great they are every time they do anything. |

Being even interestingly terrible is a rare treat now man.
Seems like every (publisher-owned)studio these days gets 100 dudes, 2 1/2 years and puts out a semi-polished variation of the same game. |

Are you talking about Brink? It sounds like you're talking about Brink. |
Was really thinking about the likes of a Homefront (half-baked high concept is sold to publisher with no thought towards a gameplay hook, followed by a development cycle of ticking every box found on the back of a Call of Duty case and kowtowing to the publishers marketing department. I imagine this happens all the time) or a Splinter Cell Conviction (Career Ubisoft weirdos are finally allowed by management to implement their great game idea; great game idea involves degenerating multiple overlapping systems into an instant win button just to make sure every Xbox360 owner knows that the creative director watched all 3 Bourne movies, bro. I know this happens all the time)
I really wanted to like Brink but the game has 2 big problems: the levelling system is such that the classes are horrendously neutered until you level them up enough, and the game/map design is unrelentingly focused on having 2 full teams of people who know exactly what they're doing. This makes it completely horrible for anyone who is going to play with pubbies or even skilled new players regularly. |

You know if they maybe scaled back from having 5 different fonts on a single HUD that would also help people see what is going on. |

I think these partnerships are a bad deal for indies most of the time. Most indie game concepts are scalable across PC/Mac/iOS/XBLA/PSN, so why limit yourself to a fraction of that market in exchange for marketing assistance (which will only reach that fraction of the market) or help with adding stereo 3D or Move (how many indies need this?)? We've seen with Team Meats experience with Microsoft that this "help" isn't always beneficial to the developer either. |
