Around 84,000, Jerry, Stage 1 boss. Handicaps: Keyboard, Drunk.
Not gonna try harder than (Jerry) , I find neither babysitting nor invisibullets thrilling.
Looking forward to posting more terrible scores! _________________ Twitter: @youpi |

Ghostlop, first: 4129 (failed 2nd stage, seems you only get points if you win a match)
Is it better to plan your moves or play any move as soon as you get the ball? _________________ Twitter: @youpi |

Almost reached the same score with one match less, so I guess it's not just about how many stages you clear. _________________ Twitter: @youpi |

I had Popeye for the NES, but I guess the port was pretty different than the original game game.
That mixed-resolution look is pretty unusual for an early 80's game, wonder what't the story behind the decision.
Probably just a boring case of maxing out the capacities of an expensive chip.

I, Robot
First: 0. Stood there like an idiot not realizing my controls were not bound
Best:
This might not be obscure enough for the SB crowd, but we should play some Change Air Blade whenever, it has a nice vs. shooting game concept, and is pretty suitable for a score challenge IIRC. _________________ Twitter: @youpi |

Pretty nice game indeed. Probably my favorite attempt at fixing Breakout so far, but I generally hate breakout.

Be lucky.
Somehow, I had 1.5M by 1-2 on my best score. No idea why, in previous attempts I had around 1M by 1-3.
Protip: start scum to have the mechanical stage as your first, you don't want to experience it as your 3-2. _________________ Twitter: @youpi |

FWIW I like your selection, although my own participation is gonna be pretty erratic.

Pretty interesting one!
Difficult to play with the mouse though, I thought that vortex thing was a cutscene and lost a bunch of ships there. I'll try it again with an analog controller.

Aquaventure - First:

Dying by hitting a fish I've already shot is really infuriating. _________________ Twitter: @youpi |

Great find that Gunbuster indeed, and I thought I couldn't be any more amazed by what Taito pulled off in the early 90's.
The first 2 stages are incredibly playable for something that sounds like it should be a clunky tech demo, but the circlestrafing obstacle courses get in bullshit territory very fast. Maybe it'll work better if I can override my FPS instincts...
My first game didn't rank in, and the score disappears as soon as you die, but a screen I took at very low health confirms I had at least 218700, and the score is mostly earned at the end of the level, so it should be pretty accurate.
First:
- Youpi, 218700, sunglasses dude
Somehow I got past stage 3 with 1 health bar, here's my best so far:
- Youpi, 401700, Mr. T

Is it supposed to be 4P or dual wield 2P?
It might be possible to rig wiimotes to this.
I've explored the later stages with save states, I think I'm starting to play it right. I've yet to beat my own score legitimately though.
My strategy so far:
I pick character 2, powerful laser with low spread, high damage, long charge
Stage 1: 1 free hit can be safely taken, healed at the end. When he launches missiles in succession, it's easier to avoid than shoot them all.
Stage 2: take it slow and pick the route with fewer flying enemies, hit and run with subweapon
Stage 3: hug the windows, the biggest hazard is getting stuck in the setpieces. Once destroyed the tables are still unpassable. Don't use ears to determine when to leave cover, the shots fly too slowly for this strategy. Don't bother about the knife attacker, there's no avoiding his hit if the subweapon is charging.
Stage 4 - Angel: always be moving left or right, don't bother attacking when it is invincible
(No strategy for either stage 5, both are insta-kill for me.) _________________ Twitter: @youpi |

The mouse control really gives me trouble, it shouldn't be that hard to perfect the first 2 rounds...

I'm also back to make everyone's scores seem better by comparison.
I'll probably try to play the other games I didn't participate in during the last two weeks too.

I was stealing Neo-Geo games on a PC that had a "MULTIMEDIA" sticker as its selling point.
MAME focuses on having an identical implementation of the original hardware,
this approach is much slower than emulators that only care about having identical output.
You should try WinKawaks or NeoRageX, it would be much faster. _________________ Twitter: @youpi |

Ah! Sorry, didn't catch that bit.
(Still, I think it would actually be faster using winkawaks through wine, MAME's emulation philosophy is often an order of magnitude slower than performance-oriented emulators.)

Not very good at precision mouse games so I'll pass on the "best" attempt.
Pretty amazing looking game for its vintage, I've seen it before but didn't realize that it was from 1984. _________________ Twitter: @youpi |

My full name's initials are ASS. I never understood why arcade machines didn't let me enter them as a kid. I thought they hated me.

Seems there's a lot of good ideas in this game if you can actually get far enough to see them. _________________ Twitter: @youpi |
