Got Bionic Commando Re-Armed 2 in the last Live Arcade sale and it's mixed, really. I kinda get that they are trying to do a metrovania, but it's just so muddled and unfocused that it just loses itself. There is no real need for most of the upgrades it wants you to find and most of them are useless anyway. On top of that, the level design gets steadily worse the further into the game you go and it's becoming a slog. I only have two or so levels left, but I'm not exactly enthused about finishing them.

Though there is an excellent fakeout near the end that had me giggling.

I got a PS3 this week for it's blu-ray capability (Hah) but I ended up with Uncharted 2 and Motorstorm Pacific Rift

Motorstorm I dug a lot until the catch up started kicking in and it gets fustrating. Was fun though. Sadly Multi is mostly empty (Though there were a few people on last night). I managed to find Apocolypse for €15 though so gonna have a run with that.

Uncharted 2 is hilarious. And I mean it in the "People think this is the amazing evidence that shows games can". It constantly feels like you are fighting the controls and every time I want Drake to go somewhere, he refuses to play ball because he has all the animation cycles to run through. I'm up to Chapter 4 and saw some hilarious things in C3

Sully: Let's go in stealthy

Turn around corner. Two armed guards already there. No opportunity to be stealthy

Sully: I said don't make a noise kid

I'm probably gonna finish it out of some sort of dogged determination because I wanna see how far this goes in hilarity.

I just played Wipeout HD Fury after picking it the disc version up for the frankly larcenous price of €10 in Gamestop.

My opinion is as follows

Woah

(PS Im going to be sick)

Also that James Bond Bloodstone game ain't awful though so far it's on that weird edge of videogamey Bond before the reboot and blunt instrument not giving a fuck Bond like Flemming wrote him (Even one of the achievements refers to him as a "Blunt Instrument"). Though there is some insane handholding going on with the smartphone. Yeesh.

Grab the expansion if it didn't already come on the disc.

I haven't played Bloodstone, but I must approve of any game about being a spy where being a spy doesn't translate into 'shooting dudes in the face.' I hear you can punch people too!

Fury is on the disc so no problems there.

Also Bloodtone lets you be a spy and rewards you for stealth by giving you "Focus Shots" which are instant kills a la Spliter Cell Conviction which work in context a lot better than Conviction is (As Bond is where this kind of excess excels. Even with Gritty Reboot Bond, just plugging someone is something he would do)

But there is plenty of shooty action bits just in case you thought they would do an entire stealth game (But then it's Bond where he simply don't give a fuck so they get away with it better than Ubi did)

Combat feels a lot snappier than The Club did though.

I mentioned it's rather Dog Days-ish in the IRC. I'm interested to explore it further to see how it goes.

Played a bit more through 007 Bloodstone. Kind of wavering on the Dog Days-ian descriptor I gave it at first. Now it's more Uncharted as directed by ZODIAC MOTHERFUCKER instead of prissy Joss Whedon wannabes. It's totally vicious, blunt instrument thug (You even get an achievement about this), not giving a fuck as Ian Flemming designed him Bond liberally dispensing ownage across the world. It's actually highly enjoyable if you don't go in with huge expectations (And don't mind the terrible looking CGI cutscenes even though the game itself looks great).

It also has better gunplay, stealth and better everything than Uncharted.

It has its faults, certainly. But goddamn Bizarre Creations had a great adventure game in them waiting to come out. I can only imagine what they would have been like if it was someone like Nintendo directing and refining their craft instead of Activision.

And while I'm at it. I am going to laugh in every Sony fans faces. Uncharted 2 is like every single bad videogame decision in one game wrapped up in a shit sandwitch. OK, I enjoyed the part in the Himalayas with the guide because that had some nice platforming and puzzles and the big twist was pretty awesome but anything involving a gun in that game is just awful beyond belief. Which is so far, 80% of the fucking game.

It's like when Jason Rubin fucked off that they forgot everything that made them good like the tight, snappy and focused gameplay of Crash and Jak.

Also BUY QUARREL YOU DORKS

Finished BloodStone. Ending was almost spectacular (Holy shit that Dam what the fuck Bizarre what is this wizardry) except for the main bad guy's terrible, TERRIBLE voice acting.

I can see the niggles and it's very short. But really, really satisfying and nails the new direction for Bond in the films, perfectly. It's a perfect Gamefly game, actually.

I totally forgot about this game, saw one of your earlier posts, and picked it up yesterday. How far along are you in it? We can play it along with each other.

I pictured it a more interactive Touch Detective (which I adored) - so far its just as endearing in style. I dont know how they handled it, but those skinny little sprites are probably some of the smoothest animated I've seen on any system. And the soundtrack is equally impressive coming from something without a soundchip. Too early to have an impression on the game mechanics, but the presentation is A+.

I'm pretty far along - going by the game's clock (not how long I've been playing it but rather the time of day in the game) I'm at around 1 a.m., I think? I'm pretty close to the end. If I have one complaint about the game it's that each scenario has only one solution. I was hoping that things would be more open-ended, but figuring out the right sequence of actions is still plenty satisfying.

Auptie if you love the animation in the early stages, you're going to adore a few of the characters introduced later in the game simply because of how much personality they convey in their movements.

Anybody who owns a DS should play this, I think. I just need a decent opportunity to sit down and finish this because things have been so hectic in my life lately.

You don't even need a DS anymore

Square-Enix, actually B-Coma.

Never got around to playing Galleon. I heard once you get used to the controls, it's rather lovely. Wonder why they haven't re-released it on steam?

Also, still playing Twisted Metal demo. It's such a weird experience as at the minute, the COD players and people used to playing modern games are getting murdered (Mostly by me *ahem*) and it's got a huge learning curve while being fairly simple to play since there are no perks or loadouts and you really have to work for your kills on other players. Nuke mode is also ridiculous with a ton of strategy, especially with the whole "sacrifice" mechanic working differently with each car. The quicker and weaker your car, the quicker the sacrifice.

I've heard a lot of people say while playing it that it's "The American Dark Souls" which is a bit overblown but I can see why people new to the franchise and don't know the advanced stuff that the old TM players have copped to quickly might refer to it that way. I'd just say it's refreshingly old school that it expects the player to learn things themselves the hard way instead of being lead through it.

uh, is this just because it's unforgiving, or ..?

Whoops. Didn't see this. But yes, it's completely brutal towards new players to the series and there is a lot of work to getting a kill or a nuke hit (Depending on your game mode). It's going to be a huge "love it or hate it" game because it's totally not taking your stupid Call Of Duty instant gratification modern multiplayer shit and demands that you work for everything or get nothing.

Really looking forward to playing this.

Twisted Metal is probably the most frustrating and aggravating game when you first start it because you don't do a lot of damage.

Then when you realise you can play around with stuff and find the Alt fire specials and then Death Warrant turns from a pretty bog standard beginner machine into a screaming warhorse of death with it's alt special.

However, In an era of pretty easy boss battles, it takes one multi-stage utter bullshit fuckfest to remind you just how soft you have become (Fuuuuuuck you Iron Maiden).

It's God Hand with cars. And I love it so much.

Picked up Need For Speed: The Run for cheap and had a whack at it. I can see why the media collectively took a dump on it and the Heavy Rain inspired sections are hilarious but damn if it isn't ambitious as all hell. It eventually charmed me enough to like it despite it's inconsistency and I ended up doing the entire Run in one shot. I certainly dig that they made a more serious take on the old arcade classics like Crusin' (Or if I were to ABDN it. "Outrun for Cynics") and it feels more in tune with classic NFS than the games in the last 10 years.

Were talking $20 cheap here though if you are interested yourself. Wait for the annual "Oh shit gotta get it off the shelves" EA clear out.

did they come up with an explanation for why the police is machinegunning an unarmed man like crazy and killing civilians in the process?

It's not the police, it's the mob doing it. Ends up in a pretty insane Car Vs Helicopter chase in Cleveland (Of All Places. But I guess they need some excitement in their lives).

Everybody's Golf: World Tour is only €10 on PSN this week in Europe and includes all the DLC with it (Toro, Sackboy and Kratos DLC characters, two extra golfers, two extra courses and every DLC costume. Which for most of the female characters looks like Maid costumes. Hooray for fetishes in kids games!) and I picked it up. Still fun but I simply don't get this new "Advanced Shot" system and the putting system is beyond hateful as it doesn't have anywhere near the feedback of Mario Golf. Still a solid game of golf but fucking hell Clap Hanz you have had near 15 years to sort your putting system out.

Hell, no one even stole Outlaw Golf 2's amazing putting system allowed you to see the slope but you only got three "Peeks" per putt. (Hugely underrated game that. Most people got put off by it's content but it was an extremely solid game of golf. Shame the developer just got canibalized by EA one day and all their nice ideas were dredged into the primordial Tiger Woods soup that's put out every year with some form of gimmick)

Rock Band Blitz is probably the most insidious videogame I have ever played.

It draws you in by being rather easy to get into, but racking up multipliers and pathing is even more insane than Amplitude ever got, especially now that you have power-up loadouts (Overdrive, Track Power Ups, Track Bonuses) and its focused on building levels instead of keeping an energy bar up. It gets super manic and is actually rather fun.

Where it really gets downright evil is the way that it links to their facebook app and how they sell new DLC to you. A loadout costs in game coins which the game is rather sparse in giving you. You only get 300 coins or so which would only cover a single overdrive power up. You get double coins for each new song you play, however. Now if you have exported everything, you have around 180 tracks already so you won't run out. So instead, you need to link your account to your Facebook account, use the Rock Band World app and pick the goals in the app which will give you significantly more coins so you can use powerups without having to worry about grinding out coins. However, this is also linked to DLC so you might see a goal which you can't get because you don't have the DLC. They are changing them regularly, but damn if it isn't a way to worm into your mind to buy more DLC.

Did I mention that you need to be online all the time to get power-ups? Straight ruthless (Though a funny "Fuck you" to people pirating XBLA games and injecting song packs in it)

Of course same DLC also works with Rock Band 3, but damn that is some straight up F2P style evil there. Can't blame 'em for copying Valve and trying to get interest in the series back up there.

Speaking of Facebook, the Facebook version of You Don't Know Jack is pretty good! Though they really should consider bumping the questions in each round to seven and a jack attack if they really want people to pay for extra games. It's not the best Jack (The Ride is still the best. Though apparently last years console version is also really good) but it's a Jack that you can play in Europe so I'm content at the minute.

They brought back the Gibberish Question and Cookie is the host so they have a lot going for them in the Facebook game.

Bingo was the best bonus round though. They should have brought that back in the console game. Would have been perfect for a 4-Player game.

Also the raddest music

Is last year's console version on the US Games On Demand Marketplace yet? Might try get a Yank or Canadian points card and buy it from there if it's cheap enough.

Played to the middle of episode 2 of The Walking Dead videogame so far. Digging it and the way it plays with the genre and "Gameplay" that doesn't make you feel safe at all

My favourite part so far: I hacked off the guys leg and brought him back to the camp. After I handed out the food, I went over to check on the guy who had just died from blood loss. As I'm talking to Katja, a zombie pops up and grabs her while a dialogue screen comes up, first I was like "Wait am I tripping balls or is this a bug or Some-OH SHIT ITS REAL. PANIC PANIC PANIC"

It's neat and it's cool someone decided to play around with what Alpha Protcol did regarding choice and consequence as well. Worth checking out for curiosity's sake.

Finished Episode 2 of The Walking Dead. Starts getting obvious where the story goes midway through the episode if you know your zombie movies but good lord they didn't make it extremely intense and involving. There's just a general sense of unease about it permiates it and it's almost playing with you, because you know where the story is going to go, but you don't know what is going to happen.

Going to go to Episode 3 asap.

Finished up with Walking Dead Episode 4 last night.

Never felt so engaged with a videogame before. Slept it off and still feel bad for one of the split second decisions I made near the end. Shouldn't get cut up about pixel people but damn if that videogame didn't make me ask if I am a monster or a man. Gonna tackle Episode 5 tonight.

Will probably stick up a thread when I finish episode 5 and when people get it in Steam sales to discuss sans spoilers. (Also it's going on sale on Dec 28th on X-Box Live)

I really liked this game too! Let's DO THIS!

I'm going to do a thread now actually because I really need to confess my guilt about what I did in episode 4 talk about it because it's a damn good game. Just working out how best to do it because spoiling anything just ruins it.

I nearly got knocked over by a car while jogging today because my mind was still on that blasted videogame. Thanks Telltale!

Spent new years eve yelling at Binary Domain to recognize my accent (It still doesn't) and wishing there was a fist bump option with Big Bo. Then playing WWE '13 with my brother and laughing (that game has problems but great for screwing around in)

Then drunkenly playing the demo of Euro Truck Simulator 2 and lugging a haul of yogurt to Paris from Southampton in the rain while listening to French pop radio. That game is zen personified.

I love videogames.

my wife teaches American English pronunciation and grammar via skype. Let me know if you're interested. :)

Did you play it on 360 or PC? I'm still wondering which of the games that have voice recognition on 360 (BD, Skyrim), also have it on PC.

Was playing it on 360. And it's appreciated on the pronunciation, though I spent a few years in London town and I have a very clear and enunciated voice for an Irish person thanks to that. Which made it weird because my friends kinect picked me up no problem while they were having trouble for a while before Microsoft did the last system update. SpeechFX just doesn't like accents (Especially as I have a crossed Northern/Southern Irish accent due to family), I suspect.
