| In Battlefield 2 it was common for people to have a flight-stick connected to switch over to for flying. |

It's safe to say that being bad at flying planes never stopped half the people who play BF games. That video bums me out, I got into the alpha test but missed out because I was too lazy to get W7 on my computer.
The main stuff from Gamescom I want to hear about badly are anything Guild Wars 2 and apparently EA announced a F2P offshoot of Warhammer Online that is just the good part of the game (small scale PvP). And maybe some DOTA2 matches. _________________

BF3 is DX10+ only (no DX9/XP support) and I was still on XP at the time. I'm on 7 now, so I'm set for beta and retail. Also, I've used Vista enough to know that I don't want to use it anymore. _________________

actually reminds me a bit more of DMC2 in parts. so does the combat, for that matter. |

I guess this is where to mention that Valve's Dota 2 is being publically shown for the first time in the form of a million-dollar tournament in just a few minutes.
Hype level: impossible to determine.

I meant hype more in the scoops Haagen Dasz sense, but yeah I'm not surprised. It won't tell me how many people are watching. The LoL finals at Dreamhack had like 100,000 simultaneous viewers.
edit: apparently this is working for some people

edit 2: still looping an animated placard for the first match of the day. even their tournaments are on valve time

I have yet to understand the appeal of watching DOTA games, but I'll probably watch the bugger :3
On the RTS front, Relic is supposed to announce their next game at Gamescome. I'm betting on Homeworld 3, myself. |

Oh hey -- scroll down on the stream window. The team's character selections are automatically(?) added to the page along with descriptions of them.
As I am typing this, the steam's connection to the game lags out for a few seconds. Oh well, no worse than the LoL tournament.
edit Okay maybe it is worse at this point.
I shouldn't be up this late anyway.

Haha they shut off the stream. Someone call Spooky!!!
Are they...are they ever gonna show actual gameplay? Ya know, with the real HUD and the real camera and all that? I can't forget Crack Whore Dante till I see that sweet, sweet Style Meter.
And the stream is back.
And there was some UMvC3 stuff in the fightman thread.
EDIT:
Stream dies. _________________

How dare anyone lose interest on volume 12 of a series that is comprised of minor increments!

Aha, I just did yesterday. I figured I could use it for Crysis 2 and From Dust while I wait for BF3, Deus Ex and Skyrim. I bought a year-old card though since this year's round of updates (low to mid-range cards) didn't seem to net much more performance.
(Disclaimer: I don't expect all or even any of these games to be great, but we are far enough along in this console generation now that I don't want to be stuck with console-quality graphics on a multi-platform release anymore. My interest in Crysis 2, for example, goes from 49% to 51% if I can run it with nice graphics). |

Yeah I'm planning to get a GTX460. I'm hoping EVGA has some in their B-stock when I get around to buying one. The usually sell the B-stock for close to $100

I was just telling Internisus this morning: the artists for the Guild Wars games are truly top tier. Every single thing is cool looking, beautiful, or both. The art direction kept Guild Wars 1 visually relevant well past the dated simplicity of its graphics engine.
I don't generally enjoy MMO's, though. So I'll just look at screenshots and watch videos.
*P.S. I have a couple of Air Force friends in Germany that are going to gamescom this weekend. I can't promise the quality of their feedback, especially since they are both mostly interested in DOTA and LoL...but I'll see what I can gleen from them. |

Ah, so they're a subsidiary. My mistake. I still stand by my statement though. MMOs are a blight on creativity. _________________

So, uh, I guess someone in the industry was hurting real bad for a third Clockwork Knight. Otherwise, I don't see the appeal of Black Knight Sword.
The most recent set of posts on the Guild Wars 2 blog shows they're pretty serious about emphasizing skill over time played and it looks like the PvP they're aiming for is almost like opposite of what most MMOs do. The highlight for me being as soon as you enter PvP, you get boosted to max level and all skills you'd have are unlocked and they include class build templates for people who just want to jump in and play. _________________

Yeah, my method was always to take off, fly over an enemy base, then jump out of the plane. Doesn't exactly require a $500 flight yoke.
