ho ho but Sypha is a man in the U.S. version, which is presumably the A-Grade cannon now because Trevor's name is Trevor and not Ralph.
(astonishing I've held off making my Akumajo Densetsu is so much better than Castlevania III post until just now I meant to do it page one) |

the US version of the game refers to Syfa/Sypha as "she" in her ending
so it's kind of a Metroid 1 hidden identity type of thing, maybe. |

Dunno to what extent seriousness is happening here, but the gender change was simply a mistranslation. Obviously the Japanese original is canon, and Sypha is clearly intended to be a woman. |

| So I'm not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure the Sun and Moon rings in Ecclesia use the Nintendo DS's internal clock to determine when to activate their stat bonuses--I was playing the game earlier this evening when I realized that the Moon Ring wasn't doing its thing, until suddenly it did . If so, that's kind of neat! Are there any other items in the Igavanias to make subtler use of the hardware like that? |

Yes, they are dependent on the clock. The Sun Ring's effect stops at 6PM. Pretty neat!
I think Portrait of Ruin gives you an item on your birthday, but I don't know what the item is.
Currently running through CotM for screenshots to complete my GBA Castlevania threads. |

It's a birthday cake, predictably enough.
CV HD has items that work the same way as Ecclesia's sun&moon rings. SotN also had those rings, but the PlayStation didn't have an internal clock so they'd just swap every six hours. The Saturn did have an internal clock, however, so they functioned based on the actual time in that version. I have no idea what the Dracula X Chronicles version does. _________________

i was under the impression that shanoa was meant to be a sacrifice for dracula's resurrection? works better than any other castlevania witch chick except cipher (she was a cursed witch and then she joined trevor after getting rescued, totally not a church sponsored witch). _________________

| does anyone know if there's ever been a full retranslation of the villager dialogue from Castlevania II? I've seen a post about Deborah Cliff and I think there was once a topic on RHDN about how the Graveyard Duck (although fuck the RHDN forums) dialogue is accurately translated and yeah it's been said that all the villagers lie in the original Japanese version but I still wonder about some of the lines. |

| Yeah, you just need to duck. You should be able to find out where it is. If you're using the background as a reference point, I think it's the space (on the left or right side of Dracula) between the skeleton sculpture and column supporting the last platform before the central staircase. Alternately: watch pro-strats on a YT vid. |

unless you're using albus, a shield spell will block the bat flood (I'm pretty sure).
or, yeah, find the right spot and duck. |

| Wait, are we talking about the first form's second attack pattern? Doesn't the bat stream alternate heights specifically to discourage standing still and ducking (in which case the answer is to duck, slide, keep ducking)? Or is that only in hard mode? |

| It alternates height in both modes. You can stand still and duck in each case. |
