i wouldn't mind moving it, i suppose. i dunno what to take out besides the porno link and dracko/loki's comix links (for obvious reasons) and every post but adi's about iga's response to egm (i didn't even want it in the thread in the first place honestly), though. _________________

so there's a new one of these things out and yeah figured you guys would have some words about it. i can't be the only one that likes cv3. so meaty.
i still like super-cv though just cause i don't really have to think and it's pretty. though i wouldn't mind a romhack that takes away directional whipping (and the limp flail thing) to see how it affects the game (for better or worse) _________________

i believe we had the same conversation in this thread (or some other cv one) except it was more about the whip and level design itself and less about the items. basically the levels don't feel designed around the new whip, and i agree. though, i don't agree so far as to call it a tech demo like i believe somebody else did (???).
cv4 is prolly the only video game with a part that can make me feel physically ill, though. _________________

I don't think removing the flailing/limp whip would affect anything, because when is it ever useful outside the Dracula battle?
I played Castlevania III today and I don't think I like it anymore. I wish it controlled like Castlevania IV, because otherwise I find it almost unplayable now.
Still love vanilla Castlevania, though. God that game is perfect. |

IDK, I use the flail a lot, although I haven't played SCV4 in a while, so I'd need to do it again to remember why
I get what that video is saying but who the heck ever used the knife (or axe) in CV1 either
Also CV1's holy water is almost too powerful if you know where and when to throw it, especially with bosses |

CVIV is still my 2nd favorite Castlevania game. I see it as a bit of a bridge between the modern and more classic Castlevania games both in presentation and game design, and I just love how it looks and sounds. Normally I'd be really critical of the game's pretty lax design, but there's something about it that keeps bringing me back to it year after year that I just really enjoy. I've likened it before to ordering a cheeseburger at a fancy restaurant, in that you're treating yourself to something nice, but keeping it greasy and familiar. _________________

the dagger was..... better than nothing, I guess. I'd use it to shoot Medusa Heads before they get too close, but that's about it.
Japanese CV3 Grant's infinite dagger throw was the only time it was useful. still my favorite game in the series. |

Like 3 months too late, but Toups: you can also avoid Dracula's bat barrage by dive kicking on them 2-3 times
It's acrobatic fun
Man that Dracula fight was pretty fun. I was severely underleveled so the fight took about a half hour+ to beat, but it was really enjoyable the way we danced against each other _________________

I wish I could stop feeling guilty for not enjoying Rondo of Blood as much as other people do.
I think I actually liked the SNES version more. Go figure. |

It does have a lot of brown and seems congested, but I've been playing this game for 18 years, and when I downloaded it onto the Wii's Virtual Console, I noticed some graphical touches I had never seen before. Thanks component!
Makes me appreciate the game in a new light. _________________

| Simon's sprite almost never stands out against the busy backgrounds. There's little to no contrast or complimentary color schemes. |

I'd be really interested in learning why -- I found it aggressively unlikable and sub-1986 in terms of level design. It's seriously like licensed platformer caliber. |

| Rarely. The cave area in level 3 is nice, but then you have stuff like the frighteningly garish woods area in level 2. Most of the game looks like that. |

Simon's sprite doesn't pop against the background but it's also never given rise to false challenge for me. I think the place where he's most absorbed into the background is the cave, though that's prob the easiest stage in the game
SCV4 is my favorite looking Castlevania after SotN :| |

| I will say that Castlevania IV has probably the best soundtrack on the SNES. People always praised ActRaiser for its music, but Castlevania IV just blew my mind. Especially that jazzy track with the booming stand up bass sample. It's one of the few soundtracks on the SNES that sounds natural instead of like a bunch of MIDI samples. |
