Dead rat found in dementia patient's mouth

Staffing was so inadequate at a California senior center that a rat crawled into an Alzheimer's patient's mouth and died there before staff noticed, a lawsuit claims.

Also, though this doesn't make a great headline, it's kind of fun. An amusement park ride where people are kicked off if they make any noise, so as not to annoy the neighbors.

this was the subject of the first newspaper article i read and understood in chinese, true story. although at first i thought i didn't get it. the translation of the headline was something like 'old man's mouth contains dead rat,' i figured having a dead rat in your mouth was some kind of chinese metaphor or something. even after reading the same story in english, i still dont really understand the sequence of events of how the rat ended up in the guy's mouth. like was it dead first or did his mouth kill it? first it says it crawled in there, then it says the dude got it out of the trap, then it says he was like playing with the living rat and feeding it candy? what the hell!

in case you are wondering about the international newsworthiness of this item, note that it was in 'the apple,' which is like half way between the national enquirer and the sun.

another article was about how a woman injured herself and someone else by jumping out of a train, thinking she would miss her stop. it had like, 6 diagrams to accompany the story!
