Let's Play Tomb Raider Underworld has long been complete.

Let's Play Unreal: Return to Na Pali is nearing the finish. I'm actually done playing the game, I just have to edit and upload the last couple recordings. It's apparently the only (?) official mission pack for Unreal and is way not as good as the original game. It's still an alright shooter though.

For my part, Let's Play Return to Na Pali is complete.

Due to popular demand, I've just uploaded the first segment of Let's Play I Am Alive. If you haven't played (or haven't heard about, it kinda flew under the radar with a couple "meh" comments from around here) the game, but you've been invested in the Last of Us critical drama, you should probably check it out. It's interesting to see another take on the "paternal love through postapocalyptic survival" subsubgenre, this time with a whole lot less money and a whole lot more ideas (mostly quasirealized) behind it.

This game is... well. Basically, what they did is they took Tomb Raider paint and coated an unholy love child of Uncharted and Assassin's Creed with it. The actual Assassin's Creed games are... better. This is disturbing.

Super pervy + lots of game design problems = really not a good game, actually quite a bad game. Uploading has stopped because I'm out of town for a week for Christmas but will continue apace soon. I will still probably complete the whole collectathon aspect, if only because of my own psychological flaws.

I too think there's a place for both commentary and annotations, which depends mostly on the game itself. Also, within the realm of commentary, it breaks down further into live and post, which again have different strengths and weaknesses and which I think are mostly appropriate for certain game types. For the record, when I started doing LPs I exercised a lot more self-determination in deciding whether to do commentary or annotations and for a bare majority of games fell to favoring annotations. But almost all my feedback said "more commentary" so I started doing more commentary.

I'm not so mad that it's Not Real Tomb Raider or whatever, the title of a game is just a name and I have no problem if it does something new as long as it does it well. My problem is it doesn't do the linear setpiece shooting thing as well as Uncharted (nor does it do the dialogue, plot, cutscenes, and all other cinematic stuff as well as Uncharted) but neither does it do exploration as well as a real Tomb Raider game. You get half a limp game each.

I feel sad you'd rather play this than other recent TR games. Anniversary and Underworld are both really good and I'd much rather play them than 2013.

It is true that it is one of the hardest series to be an actual fan of. Pretty much every game but the first (and even the first in some respects) sets itself up as something that could be amazing and then falls short. How far each game actually does fall short separates the good ones from the bad ones. But because there are so few other games of its type, and its type is something I love, and I like games that reach farther than they can touch, I still like the series "as a whole," for whatever that could mean.

There's a big long Zelda thread centered around OOT in the axe and when I play Outcast I think "this is OOT done right." That's my abdn bottomline review.
