So do we think Statham has a good American accent up his sleeve? Or is he just going to go the Arnold route and keep his accent and pretend it's not there?

as i recall in Safe, he almost got rid of it a little, but not really. i could be misremembering though.

Why'd they rename it "Killing Them Softly"? It was still called Cogan's Trade like a month ago.

Does life imitate Call of Duty or does Call of Duty imitate life?

Verhoeven Suicide Watch

Quote:
GQ: Total Recall, Starship Troopers, and RoboCop are all being remade. Do you feel vindicated?
Paul Verhoeven:
I feel completely depressed.

GQ: Really?
Paul Verhoeven:
It's depressing in the way that you feel that you're already dead and buried. Basically, you are transported out of the window.

GQ: Will they remake Showgirls?
Paul Verhoeven:
I strongly doubt it.

Yeah, this looks like it could hit all the right buttons. Fairly excited.

Sidenote: It occurs to me that opulent hyper-clinical aesthetics contrasted by mass-fetishistic brutal body horror is probably one of the reasons why I enjoyed Syndicate so much.

103 years young. Also, one hell of an old school cast.

Quote:
On the previous Friday, July 13 (2012), he had been admitted to the clinic’s Cardiology Intensive Care Unit for treatment of “congestive heart failure in the context of respiratory infection.” The movie maker remarked that he planned to leave the clinic, because he had “too much to do.”

Monday, after his condition had improved, he was moved to the Cardiology Intermediate Care Unit. The cardiologist Vasco da Gama Ribeiro, a friend, reported that the director was already sitting up, and eating unassisted; and that he asked when he could leave the clinic in order to “return to filming.”

The 103-year-old Portuguese director had been preparing his sixtieth feature, A IGREJA DO DIABO | THE CHURCH OF THE DEVIL.

Keep on keeping on, Oliveira-san.

He also has an omnibus coming up with Pedro Costa and "the once in a blue moon" Victor Erice.

I should give that comic a second chance, it really didn't leave much of an impression. It's a French BD by Matz, the guy who wrote The Killer and there's been talks of a David Fincher adaptation of that one.

Also, oh shit, that new Arnie movie is directed by Kim Ji-woon, the guy behind I Saw the Devil and A Bittersweet Life.

well, of course, yeah, but he looked stupid in some of the other movies he did recently and he looks pretty cool in a musclehead kind of way in that trailer. it's all fake, i know!

Sean Witzke on The Raid wrote:
The thing is: This isn't the kind of movie where explaining it conveys any of what it is to watch it. What makes this movie special is that Gareth Evans has uncovered the way great action films approach character and story, and has found a way to update it to serve a new, relentless model for the genre. This is where the action movie can go in the 21st century, which is someplace new, not just visually or narratively, but in human ability. The people who made it are the real new leveling-up.
