One of my favorite filmmakers is being truly fucked over. Also re-evaluating my siding with Carney (on being honest) over the Gena Rowlands dispute over the 1st Jonas Mekas cut of John Cassavete's Shadows.

Why would you do this, Christopher McQuarrie?

Is the first Atlas Shrugged even worth MST3King? If so, do any SB peeps want to do that?

Princess Daisy as Dagny Taggart and DB Sweeney, star of Cutting Edge, as John Galt?

I'm so excited.

Is Gosling just going to play different types of criminal stunt drivers from now on or what?

Is every single person just going to say some variation of that on hearing about this movie? It doesn't even look anything remotely like Drive.

How many other actors been in two separate movies playing stunt drivers?

Also I didn't say the movie itself looked anything like Drive, and it isn't my fault that this is what everyone is going to say upon hearing about this movie, I didn't cast Ryan Gosling as a stunt driver gone rogue twice.

I don't see the characters being anything alike though. He wasn't even really a "stunt driver gone rogue" in Drive, that's just what they wrote in the plot summaries to make it easier to sum up. He drove just to drive, whether it was stunts for movies, getaway cars for criminals, race cars, drives to the groccery store, cruising around at night. He wouldn't recognize or care about any distinction between the legal and illegal driving activities. His job title might as well be "grocery getter" as "stunt driver" for all it matters to him.

This other guy seems more like Charley Varrick or something. A former stunt guy adrenaline junkie who just needs money and ends up using his old skills in his new career. More an actual person than a singleminded austismal machine man.

It totally is. I mean, take the abysmal writing of the source material, pile on terrible acting and generally incompetent film making, then add in a dash of hilarious maybe-unintentional-but-maybe-not (because Tea Party/Rand nerds) racism (seriously the only black character is basically a servant to the main white girl), and it turns out pretty fucking funny.

ONE MONTH FROM TODAY.

This makes me miss dhex's presence even more.

From the studio (Rocky Mountain Pictures) that brought you Atlas Shrugged Part 1 (though strangely not 2) and 2016: Obama's America.

That exact same movie with a Taxi Driver/Straw Dogs style ending would probably be one of the greatest masterpieces of the century

I'm honestly a little bit shocked at myself for ever assuming they'd just honor the original design.

The director's last movie was Robocop played straight. I have no faith in the production.

I think trainwreck status for the Robocop remake is almost guaranteed--but jury is still out on whether or not it will at least be an interesting trainwreck.

On the other hand, "playing it straight" seems to have worked out well for Dredd (?? Haven't seen it yet?), so who knows.

Dredd doesn't exactly play it straight. It's more that it amps up how god damned serious and punked out it is so that it becomes funny, rather than there being any kind of explicitly funny stuff going on. It seemed totally aware that it was doing this, also.

Hou Hsiao-Hsien's first martial arts film that I was waiting for since it was announced around 2007 is finally in production. Wondering what the hell is happening with mainland auteur Jia Zhangke's debut martial arts film In The Qing Dynasty, which was announced almost as long ago. Also a new Johnnie To/Wai Ka Fai called Blind Detective is in the works. No relation to To's Mad one.
