I don't suppose many people around here still watch Lost, but tonight's episode may have been the finest piece of TV I've ever watched. Whoever wrote and directed it needs to be given unlimited funds and artistic freedom, immediately.
Anyone who's stopped watching along the way for whatever reason should go see this one immediately too (on abc.com or search isohunt for "lost s03e14"); chances are good it parodies the elements of the show you hated in the first place. Absolutely A-rate multilayered shlock throughout. _________________

I never actually started watching this show (I think I may have seen one episode from the first season in its entirety), but I have been curious for a long while. A couple of friends persistently urge me to get on it, anyway. I'll probably catch up via Netflix and then check out the most recent episodes through whatever means. _________________

I love it. I think a lot of people that disparage it are taking it too seriously, thinking of it on a hollywood level where everything that's not neatly wrapped up at some point is a strike against its value as a whole. To be sure, it's a mess pacing/plotwise, and often totally over the top, but the writing is also very often superb, especially on an immediate, character based level, and it's never been afraid of the absurd. Every time I hear complaints along the lines of "they're just making it up as they go along," I grind my teeth, cause that's pretty much the whole point and that's always been the case. I mean, they aren't afraid to kill characters off, and they aren't afraid (as in tonight's episodes) to play them off for laughs 2 years later.
The fact that it's persisted on network TV (where even things as easy as Arrested Development and Firefly haven't survived) seems like a miracle to me. It's my 2nd favorite show (between The Wire and Battlestar Galactica) both currently on TV and of all time. So you should give it a chance! _________________

| This episode was hilarious, but it's a shame the comic high point was Lando (a shame that it came so early, not the fact that it was freaking Colt 45 himself). |
