Weird. I never knew about that port.
Seriously been waiting for this for like, twenty years now. |

and...well, yea, this is the first time it's being released, unless we want to count this (we don't) |
Apparently the legal clusterfuck over it was so legendary that no one could even show footage of it because no one knew who owned the rights (apparently because they included a bunch of Life In Hell characters). I'm guessing EA gave up the rights and Konami made a deal with Fox and now it's being released in time for the 500th episode.
Wonder if it's a HD re-make or just a straight port though. _________________

| Back in the late 90s I had a standalone executable of Simpsons Arcade that I got from some pirate site. I remember thinking that it didn't seem like it was MAME based, and wondering how and when Konami would have authorized such a port. From checking the Wikipedia article I can see that there was apparently a DOS port in 1992 -- that must've been it. It was pretty much arcade-perfect, if memory serves. |

| I normally hate them, but the Simpons arcade game with its flat shaded artwork is one example I can think of where edge-enhancing graphics filters might not look too bad. I wouldn't trust Backbone to create any actual new graphics that would look any better, anyway. |

Also worth noting that Simpsons arcade is free for PSN Plus members, $10 otherwise for PSN/XBLA. PSN Plus has been totally worth it for me, has more than paid for itself in freebies/discounts/sales on stuff I would want to buy anyway, and then I get other free stuff too.
At the same time, I'm finally ready to ditch my paid Xbox Live Gold membership when it runs out in a few months. I don't usually play online (outside of SSF4, which I play for free on PSN), and even if I do want to there's always the PS3 free online option for any multi-platform stuff. And I can use any bluetooth headset on PS3 instead of proprietary shit on 360. |

The funniest thing about this is that Spec Ops: The Line, a game announced in 2009, got delayed again to next year. _________________

| THQ is looking for a partner to publish the Warhammer 40k MMO (which I am midly excited for because you can drive motorcycles off jumps and shoot people), which is a thing, I guess. |

So, The Simpsons is out on XBLA this morning, and this is the case. The smoothing looks really natural and, like the X-Men arcade port, has the option to turn off the smoothing anyways.
The real highlight here though is that the game comes with modes that limits the amount of credits either each player gets or the whole group gets, on top of free play and a 1CC, 1-life mode. Seeing as rampant credit feeding and mutant-power spamming was my issue with playing X-Men online, this just shot to instant buy easily. |

Hey, SEGA (with Sammy) has posted a $450 million profit! I'm linking you to NeoGAF because I want to quote this:
| Code: |
81.7% of their profit comes from pachislot/pachinco.
94.3% of their profit is from pachislot/pachinco plus arcade machine sales (of horse racing, card based soccer, and mahjong). |
man, Sammy is really pulling the weight in this relationship, huh?
I wish I had something clever to say about this but nope. |

Guys Space Marine is really awesome! I mean it's not the second coming or anything but it's a pretty satisfying, arcadey game with a couple decent mechanics. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

Toll says it's like Gears of War but better and that sounds pretty good to me! I'm still kind of waffling on it since who knows when I'll actually get around to playing it but it sounds like it's definitely worth the $16 they're asking. _________________

I bought Space Marine when it came out on the strength of its demo. It's a really fun game which for some reason I haven't gotten around to finishing. I should rectify that.
It's not really like Gears, despite the huge hulking space marines -- there is no cover system whatsoever. That's for wimps. What it DOES do is fast-paced and exciting. Slashing apart enemies and performing silly finishing moves on them to restore your health feels really good, as does switching to your guns and blowing away enemies as they try to close in.
I hear they added a Horde mode sometime after I picked it up. That might be fun! _________________

So wait, was this backbone? Because it's sounding rather good and I like hearing when a company bashed for beleaguered ports steps it up. |

Yeah I'd go so far to say it's nothing like Gears whatsoever, except that they're both TPSes. Cover defines Gears, it's literally the basis of every other mechanic in the game. Space Marine doesn't even have cover. It plays more like DMC than Gears. (Not to say it plays much like DMC.) _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

Yeah, both it and X-Men are Backbone. While it doesn't have a wealth of options, what's there is solid and these two games have been brought over rather well (I recall X-Men had the sound effects and voices cleaned up a bit, or at least they sounded crystal clear). |

Speaking of which, I'm still hoping to find a link for the GOG version of Thief somewhere.
There are some surprisingly recent games on that list. _________________

All of their games have redeeming features, they were one of the main reasons the 360 was an interesting console. _________________

I find the logic behind at least some of the games listed there dubious at best. Like APB, which got relaunched by a F2P publisher that brought ex-RTW devs on board. Or Illusion Software titles, as the studio still exists as 2K Czech. Or listing Tribes, which is already freeware. I mean, I understand the intent, but the research isn't there and there is just a little bit of bias. _________________

I could never get the videos to play. I even found a thing where a guy reencoded them with a modern video codec and they still wouldn't run. I just gave up after that. _________________

Well the gog version of Arx Fatalis doesn't run at a playable speed on many modern setups, and Thief is a bit more involved to fix than AF so I don't have my hopes up for the gog team. _________________
