| So Doublefine isn't going to have to deal with Valve and Steam thanks to kiclstarter? |
i don't see a company of doublefine's size really looking at steam as a problem, particularly. this is more about not having to be beholden to publishers/profit minded financiers. at a certain scale, the cut steam takes makes more sense than using their own bandwidth/distribution system/customer service plus it is the biggest and most visible marketplace for new sales of this game. i could even see this thing being given away in steam codes. i really don't think most developers see dealing with steam as a problem any more than say a microwave manufacturer is worried about amazon/wal-mart. like even if you are concerned that's kind of it for a widely produced thing |

Not sure if anyone spoke about this, but Idle Thumbs looks like they put in the final nail. They hadn't been producing podcasts for a while but there was always hope they would do so for the big games conferences when they were together again. They were a good group to listen to them casually talk about video games, basically anything they were working on or played recently.
Their website has been converted to an archive. |
just wanted to update this to say that the text at the main site looks like they are primed for a comeback of some sort. was hoping for this since remo left irrational since this was basically my favorite game podcast ever |

I'm going to mention Datura here half because I think it is a neat concept that almost certainly won't actually work, and half because it has the most hilariously meta take on morality systems that I've ever seen (about 6 minutes in).

So yes, would you rather help a drowning person trapped under ice or grab an actual physical PSN trophy instead? |
as a guy who really likes hippy dippy museum walkabout tech demos i really wish that this whole game got more and more blunt and hamfisted and mean about artgames because that would be amazing
i mean the quote and the "moral choice" and the tree spirit map is just the right side of dumb
like the ideal would be for this whole thing to be a joke and then to accidentally(?) pull a producers as rave reviews pour in
but even without author intent if it just gets dumber from there anyway and it ends up being a metaphor for why don't girls like me or something
the possibilities |

I dug Monster Tale so I am curious about what this team will do with a more traditional platformer. It's probably going to be shame how much more aesthetically pleasing this will be than the 3D version. |

Man it seems kind of spiritually miserable to make Parappa beat the hell out of demons and monsters and men with guns
I mean the martial arts were just to build confidence
He might as well be Charlie Brown or a Sanrio character or something
His album has raps about staying in school and playing tag and eating ice cream under a shady tree
I know in the end he is just a consumer product but i wish he did not have to join this deviantart nightmare : |

looks like jsr hd might have worked out some more music licensing stuff after all
not that i care about dragula in particular but for a while i was worried they would be the first video game in history to fail to license dragula
I mean the Deavid Soul stuff is the missing stuff that hurts the most but hopefully if they can get Dragula they can at least get Jurassic 5
I dunno

they're still in the 'attract investors' stage of development.
The idea is for a small game console at the $100 price point, that would come with it's development tools so anyone who wants to be a developer can be.
I don't know what their monitization plan is, my guess is it would have it's own digital marketplace and they'd skim a percentage from all transactions
Mixed feelings about this thing. |
they raised a million dollars in less than 10 hours on kickstarter so i guess people want to buy things |

Actually they pretty much worked it out so they have every song except Yappie Feet and Many Styles (which was PAL only). Plus now it has all the songs from all three versions. |
