It's funny you mention that. I had just watched that cabin episode of Homeland where Carrie mentions the kind of tea that Brody likes, which blows the lid on Carrie's spying. I then immediately watched an episode of another critically acclaimed drama show that's currently airing (I won't say which because I would spoiling that show) and literally the exact same thing happened. That made me laugh.

There was a Batman marathon yesterday. There's an episode called "Nora Clavicle & the Ladies' Crime Club" and it is real weird, just the most misogynistic, silly, bizarre thing. A pain and a delight.

I was kind of ambivalent about the 'drug trip' theme of the episode (although it could have been a lot worse), but this scene was just amazing and I wish there was a little more context shown at the beginning of this clip because it works so perfectly.

According to some random ass 4chan poster. But Mark Frost has talked about different Twin Peaks things that have tried to get going for years now and how Lynch has always been the hold up, so if he really is enthusiastic about something happening now maybe there's some truth to it.

dais i am really happy they are putting fringe out of its misery, what about you?

there was a shot from the previous week's end of episode promo that actually looked like an acid trip that i didn't recall seeing in the episode, in favor of the (fun) monty python reference and the (horrible, horrible) fairy hallucination stuff.

nothing about this season makes any sense. future nazis cannot monitor phone calls, operate security cameras, monitor electricity usage on the power grid? i don't understand anything about the world. last episode i watched opened with olivia saying "this doesn't make any sense" just after i google searched "fringe" "observers" "doesn't make any sense" among other combinations of phrases, just to see if i was the only person who thought this whole thing was silly. anyway at least that made me smile.

So, 30 Rock finale. I really liked all the little touches, right down to the opening walk and talk Aaron Sorkin Studio 60 tribute. I'm gonna miss these guys.

Was that Dr. Venture in the backdoor pilot for the Dwight spinoff on The Office this week?

Last week was already basically the perfect finale so this week was just a victory lap. They nailed it better than anybody really. I would rather watch Grizz and Hers than most sitcoms I think. I appreciate that in the end Liz Lemon as a character is happiest as basically just a hack writer for terrible shows which is a really interesting thing if you think about it. "Nobody watched us but we got paid anyway suckers" was the best meta-line about the show. The Lutz plot was incredible and the only think I hoped for was maybe one more Josh/Danny joke. The whole season as a finale was pretty masterfully executed and the last 30 seconds were basically as good as it gets.

Also it's interesting to see this season have a couple shows that actually get to end on their own terms like Fringe, Leverage, and 30 Rock. It is a rare tv thing.

My favorite thing about the finale was the first commercial break, where we see a trailer for a movie starting Tina Fey and Paul Rudd, and then Jane Krakowski in an orange juice commercial.

Also the bumpers last week sponsored by GE in honor of Jack Donaghy were as surreal as that show ever got.

That orange juice commercial has inspired some pretty funny Rage from a friend of mine about being tricked into thinking a commercial is part of the show you are deliberately trying to watch

The kid who plays Liz Lemon's adopted son is the kid from the Danny Brown video for "Grown Up"

I'm really bummed this show is over but the last episode was great

I think my favorite joke from this season was Jack's "I did have sex with Jenna a lot during season three" - likely a reference to the aborted final season of Friends plot where it would be revealed that Joey and Phoebe have been casually fucking this whole time and just didn't tell anybody.

The Americans is kind of uneven but a lot of fun. I think it had too much to introduce in the pilot but it seems like it has potential. Glad they made a good excuse for them to (almost) never speak Russian. Keri Russell is giving a pretty amazing performance

laffin at the entire conceit of the show being another one of zordon's many backup plans

when neo-zordon said "you love the environment and are an expert bmx biker, that's why i chose you as the pink ranger" that was somehow even more 90s than last season

Wait are the new Power Rangers series post-In Space actually tangentially connected to the originals? Please elaborate

they are directly connected

individual characters and full teams cross over and things like rita and zedd's kid show up it is all pretty "straightforward"

i think adam and tommy end up coming back the most

this is the 20th anniversary season so they have kind of sideways remade the original show down to having them eat at a restaurant called ernie's.

also this is going to be localized this season so:

Even without Dan Harmon, Community is still better than most sitcoms on TV right now. That margin is just a lot thinner now.

The extent to which Chevy Chase is phoning it in is coming all the way back around to hilarious.

The Following has a really depressingly high amount of "jesus why didn't you think of that you idiots" (to the point where three episodes in, the poor judgment of the protagonists is how they are connecting), but it is surprisingly enjoyable to just have Kevin Bacon mope around being disappointed in everyone else until epiphany sneaks up on him and the full weight of his angst collapses inward on himself, creating a pull of gravity that draws all the others closer to his misery. Rinse, repeat.

Also unexpectedly appreciating the other side of the show, where the antagonists try and make a Criminal Minds episode last an entire season. In a sense, these two weak halves come together to form something that is almost sort-of worth watching, because you know it's going to end badly for everyone and you kind of want it to. I guess.

actually, I mainly just wanted to say that the scene with the emailed video at the end of the third episode was definitely one of the best ways of establishing how evil the villains are/upping the ante that I've seen on TV.

episode five is especially a hack job, it feels like there and entire scenes missing and the characters continue to behave in ways that don't make any sense -- making the show a perfect adaptation of the comic book form, in a weird way

bubbles from the wire is amazing in his brief role, his last scene blew me away and then was followed by something as stupid as hiro stabbing ando which was pretty wtf

EDIT- it got better after the first five episodes

and the episode after that one was really fun so I guess I'll stay on board for a while longer -- another thing that comic books sometimes have a habit of doing

Is anyone else watching this? I have only seen a couple of episodes but I think it's actually pretty good. It is really really weird to see a television drama about American politics that is not expressed in Sorkinspeak, especially when the whole thing is visually very similar to the Social Network. I feel like the dialogue comes across as very stagey and unnatural which is an odd contrast with the hyperreal aesthetic. But anyway it's interesting, Kevin Spacey plays some kind of satanic/machiavellian politician who loves barbeque and strangling dogs to put them out of their misery. Robin Wright is terrifying and amazing. The girl who plays the plucky reporter is irritating. The whole show has this strange mounting sense of dread but at the same time I can't really predict what direction it is going to go in. I don't know if this is supposed to be a film about Underwood's rise to power, or his disastrous spectacular downfall. But maybe it's more predictable for other people? I wonder if american politics really are this ruthless.
