| My only (slight) concern about it is that I don't quite understand how stats like intelligence and strength factor into the bigger numbers. Like, I know strength has some effect on both my damage and my armor (and maybe a little bit on my health/dodge?), but I have no idea what those multipliers are. |
If you've got advanced tooltips on you can get numbers for those multipliers - although I'm still a little shaky about what gets applied first (stat buff, +damage, attack speed%, whatever). My monk currently has 149 intelligence. Hover over that and the game has a little listing, informing you that intelligence is the prime attribute for witch doctors and wizards. Next bullet point lets you know that translates to an increase of 149% to all damage - for witch doctors and wizards. Last bullet point says it also translates to an increase of 14.9 to all resistances for every class. |
Something akin to (Speed * (Weapon damage + Stat damage + Gear damage)) * Ability damage. No idea WHAT the fuck they do for dual-wielding, I couldn't figure it out. Cuba figured out earlier that gear damage (like the +damage you see on rings/amulets) gets applied separately to both weapons though.

The way dual wielding is handled is that you get a 15% speed boost overall, but your attacks alternate from using one weapon to using the other. Attack speed for each weapon is calculated separately. If you really want to dig into this stuff, the theorycrafters are way ahead of you. _________________ JSNLV is frequently and intentionally wrong. |

Another SB only auction tip: Visit whoever in town is selling trinkets. I can buy an amulet with a primary attack stat of 90+ and Vitality of 10+ for 5~6000 and turn around and sell it for 15000 on the auction. Jump all over it if you see an item with 90+ to any main attribute and 90+ to vitality. Then buy multiples and roll in money. And do it soon because there's no way in hell the economy for that kind of thing will last long. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

I'm proud to say that my first foray into inferno mode was a success! My barbarian all by herself managed to get up to 5 nephalem stacks before dying! With those 5 stacks and the 'extra loot' shout, a treasure demon dropped two rare items for me!
I should try grouping up next and see how that goes. Everyone was saying "you're gonna get owned like 1 minute into inferno mode unless you have 400+ resist all gear" but I almost made it to the skeleton king :) I do have almost 50k health, though.
I also found this weapon that is absolutely fucking disgusting for a level 52 weapon. I'm seriously considering saving it for the RMAH:

| Remote helped me dominate the Skeleton King last night, as I was having trouble soloing him as a DH. Got him down to about 5% on my own, but then he destroyed me. If the auction house is up today, may start working on gearing up some more vitality/defense. I need to be able to take a hit. I am down to about 7.1K DPS right now which is great in Hell for anything that isn't a boos or a few of the gold dudes, but I still want more Defense. |

where are you getting level 46 from? it's minimum level 52, from an original minimum level of 58. _________________

No, It's a 58 sword; the reduction takes it from the base level required. If you search the AH for 60 only gear, they'll pop up every so often because they're technically level 60 gear.
Killed the Butcher with 5 valor stacks, got 4 rare drops (yesssss). One of them was a monk-only 2-hander (noooo). If you don't kill him fast enough, the game goes "Well, you had your chance" and all of the floors start shooting fire all the time. Inferno is a hell of lot easier solo than grouped, mostly because numbers (430% monster HP versus soloing's 100% base).
Speaking of numbers: http://www.clicktoloot.com/p/combat.html. _________________

I gave a guy a fairly stupid amount of gold for this item last night, but I think it was worth it:
The + resist to all elements and physical resist is nice to have. Matched with a few other elemental all-resist pieces, I am having much less trouble with bullet hell elites.
I now look like a member of GWAR.

Man, I really wish they'd bring the commodities market back up so I could sell my tomes and gems and such.
I bumped up against my first enrage timer today, I believe. I was fighting a particularly nasty pack, extra health illusionist and some other stuff against a high-defense enemy type, and it popped up and I got to take a look at the debuff. It just says that you start taking damage over time. So that wasn't so bad! I was able to kill the enemy about 30 seconds later without dying nonetheless. _________________ I'm on Steam! ----- I'm on Youtube!

Guys, can you help me to understand how to like this game? I can see that there is a lot in here, but I feel like I need a tutorial in how to appreciate it because it just seems very flat and generic and inconsequential.
I got up to the Skeleton King boss, and cleared that, I dunno it's just not grabbing me. It doesn't have as much crackle and pop as I remember D2 having. |

You should try getting into a group with three other people and steamrolling through the thing with them. But I mean it is all those things and I don't like the game either, I just can't stop playing it anyway. The overwhelming feelings of emptiness and meaninglessness that are going to hit once I make sixty or whatever goal my brain ends up finding satisfactory for "completion" are going to be huge. Can't wait. _________________

Are you trying to play it alone? It sounds like you're trying to play it alone. This game isn't good enough to be played alone. Neither was D2. |

This happened to me more or less as described above; I play a highly toughened barbarian with a lot of defensive acuity, but as a result my only offensive moves are spamming Frenzy and popping Revenge whenever it becomes available. So even whaling on him nonstop, the nonstop burn phase came!
They do take few-second breaks between finishing burning one loop and starting the next, but it may as well be continuous. Still, I endured this for a full minute and a half, popping my Ignore Pain whenever it came up, leeching life as I could, popping two health potions and running back and forth between the health fountains. In the end, the butcher fell before I did! Got lots of goodies, too, and I celebrated by purchasing two upgrades for myself.
I actually lost about 2k max health, but my resistances are now up at around 35% for my least protected elements, and 55%(!) for lightning/fire. More importantly, I have 6% life leech on all attacks AND 45% magic find! I can't wait to try act II! Or maybe just do act I again with extra magic find and more resists.
What I called like Babe Ruth was the fact that companions would become pretty damn useless in Inferno mode. But then, my templar isn't geared very well. _________________ I'm on Steam! ----- I'm on Youtube!

I agree with pretty much all this except that I wouldn't say I don't like the game. Playing with people (preferably friends) on the difficulties past normal is where you find the meat of this game, and I think the only meaning you'll find in reaching level 60 is that you've finally peeled back each layer to reach the core — hopefully the toughest and most rewarding the game has to offer. It's all about the visceral thrill shared with some buddies; this game has no heart or spirit in the way that a game like Dark Souls does. There's no roleplaying to be found, barely any stories to be told. It's just a raging battlefield waiting to be conquered. I'm pretty sure any warrior left standing in a field of corpses would feel some despair. _________________

Mess around with the mechanics too by respeccing your guy. Kind of fun switching a mage up between a distant direct damage dealer to a tank spamming area effect spells and locking down groups.
Enjoy it before you get to hell where you start getting locked into certain builds because some skills are just too good in comparison with the rest. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

Eh, even in Hell, you have some leeway with doing stupid, stupid builds, as most mobs aren't quite hitting hard enough until act 4. My favorite being making yourself as tanky as possible, taking Ray of Frost runed to turn it into the 360 degree AoE; the strategy is to run into the middle of a pack of enemies, hit Diamond Skin and hold down Ray of Frost. The fact that it worked* at all is a testament to... something, I'm sure.
The best stupid build that actually works is using Living Lightning spam and Critical Mass to cheat cooldowns and getting chain Diamond Skin and Frost Nova. There's a video of a wizard doing this to effectively stun-lock Diablo on Inferno, which is just the best kind of hilarious.
*Do not use against fire chain, knockback or arcane elites. _________________

This just got fixed so that Critical Mass triggers substantially less frequently. I really don't know why they bothered. I was looking forward to trying a build that wasn't based on constantly running away from blue and yellow mobs. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

The degree to with which Blizzard has been caught off guard with wacky-ass builds suggests a few things. Like learning nothing from the kind of stupid shit people did in WoW for the past 8 years. Or that they should have gotten the full game out ti sme during their long-ass beta. _________________

But their whole design thesis was enabling wacky-ass builds they couldn't forsee. Then when people come up with them they're like uh oh shit and change shit. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

I'd be okay with that if the combination of latency and ridiculous hitboxes weren't piled on top of the current "Get touched and die" mentality of inferno (which is totally doable if you don't get touched).
Got my first legendary, along with a fine weapon for demon huntin'

That's hilarious that there's a question on the auction house faq that says "Why would I even want to use the gold-based auction house?" like you'd have to be a brain dead imbecile to even ever want to spend the fake gold money you'd accumulate that's otherwise mostly useless in-game instead of actual real money, but they threw it in there anyway just in case somebody might want to. _________________
