Kinda feeling like I want my sixty bucks back right now. How the fuck do you go and render a game unplayable by destroying its framerate and input response time two weeks after the game has been shipped? I think this needed to spend at least a couple more months in beta.
Is nobody else here having this issue? I know I'm far from the only one, but... _________________

So, uh, I guess they might have applied a hotfix or something...? I tried again tonight and the game seems to be running fine. Huh.
Anyway, I hit 60 a few days ago, but I've barely done anything. Still on hell Act III, but I have used my increased gold find via NV buff on a few new pieces...
edit: ...or not? Running like shit again. What gives?
edit edit: The game seems to run fine about one out of every four times I start it up. So bizarre. _________________

Well, I'm on Inferno act II with my barb. It's not impossible! I'm not using any exploits! I kite when I need to, but I've also switched to a more tanky build, ditching the whirlwind and leap for ignore pain (w/ healing rune) and a ground stomp that draws monsters toward me and stuns them. I have almost 60k health. I can take some punishment. Still, though, it is quite tough at times. The Butcher was a fun fight before, but not terribly challenging... My first attempt on him in Inferno mode took several tries — mostly because my wizard and DH companions kept getting one-shotted by his chain and smash move, or roasted by fire before they could get out. _________________

Still not in Inferno, still not much to say about ultimate mechanics except that I'm slowly replacing offensive skills on my hotbar with defensive ones and I can easily see where you eventually have to go hardcore tank mode just to survive. That's not bad, though, if you're playing dedicated in a group... which I am. I have no idea why anyone would want to play this game alone. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

The last day's exploits:
Well that's reassuring, I'm not sure anyone but the dev team knows how to tackle that challenge.
Here's my prize possession at the moment, found myself in act II inferno:
275 armor on a necklace, and then over 200% extra weapon damage and 55% crit damage to boot! Woohoo!
Here's just another example in the long list of "I didn't think about this when I wrote it" Blizzard dialogue:
Well then why in the god-damn christ did you bring it up. Seriously, what the fuck kind of fight are you trying to pick. This is a conversation with your wife of 13 years mid-PMS.
I wish the Blizzard scriptwriters had a filter between their brain and their fingertips where they'd stop and thi***!$//--

Yeah, i will never solo on inferno with my DH, simply because i don't like trying to be tanky with him, and being cage-y with someone around to soak up damage is a ton of fun. I have a friend who is playing a barbarian right now, so he tanks and soaks up the hits and i flipdash around him dropping traps and raining arrows and death, and it is a good time. Still die pretty regularly, but don't care.
I did start working on a barbarian of my own, around level 35 already, and that is a lot of fun to play with as well, though a lot different. |

You don't go tanky, instead your build begins to focus on "How much crap can I drop before I'm not doing enough damage while still staying alive?"
or you run away like a scared child from every elite pack, kiting the fuck out of everything and praying that the random generation gods gave you a space to kite around in or non-rage inducing mob properties (looking at you, molten/fire chains/vortex).
I actually just got my monk on inferno, and the idea that I'm actually running head long into mobs is still a bit disconcerting after playing a wizard nigh exclusively. _________________

| Oh yeah, my DH right now is basically built around doing enough damage quickly to keep himself alive (and constantly getting health from anything he can), which works pretty well, though it can easily be tilted towards dead pretty quickly. |

Holy shit they listened.
Quick re-cap:
-Adjusted drop rates for inferno-tier gear: the best items CAN be found in act I inferno. The drop rate increases in each act.
-Nephalem valor has been adjusted: with 5 stacks, you get one LESS guaranteed rare per boss, but one MORE guaranteed rare per elite pack, to encourage more thorough play.
-Monster damage boost eliminated in co-op play.
-Inferno difficulty ramps up more naturally from act II on; if you can complete act I with an offensive build, you should be able to move onto act II with a defensive build, and so on.
Other lesser changes include making earlier gem-transmuting costs reasonable, and increasing endgame repair bills to discourage death-zerging. _________________ I'm on Steam! ----- I'm on Youtube!

Boo. The issue wasn't damage in co-op; rather, it was a symptom of already high base damage.
And while I like better gear dropping, prices on the AH are gonna crash hard. _________________

Oh, and reading that +attack speed is getting nerfed confirms my suspicions that it was overbudget (my monk used a lvl 25 ring forever because even rings with 90+ dex would lose a couple hundred DPS due to the loss of +9% attack speed). _________________

This is only a good thing. Several million gold for a good 1-hand weapon is kind of stupid. I don't know how people earn that much without farming for days.
Now maybe I'll actually get the drops I need just by playing. As it should be.
Was hoping the patch had been rolled out last night, but later this month, I guess. _________________

| AH prices were destined top tank anyhow, with this just speeding it along. The longer Blizz waits on the real currency AH, the less it is going to make them, which I am completely fine with. |

While not strictly untrue, the damage boost per player was high enough that it would still be unreasonable with [u]just[/i] the overall damage nerf (which hasn't even been guaranteed in places like act IV inferno). Look at any honest post on tanking in late inferno mode for groups. Exaggerating chest-beaters aside, to even be guaranteed to survive groups of normal enemies, let alone the elite packs, most people say you MUST have:
-Stormshield
-Strings of Ears (belt)
-Justice Lantern (ring)
As a result, each of those items goes for millions, even for the ones with the shittiest of random stat rolls. And that doesn't even take elite packs into account! Remember, there's a hardcore mode that needs to be addressed as well. When three of the best damage-mitigating items in the game are a requirement for survival for mundane endgame encounters, a slight damage nerf across the board isn't going to fix the problem. _________________ I'm on Steam! ----- I'm on Youtube!

If those items start dropping more often and their prices take a dive that might at least put a bandaid on the issue, I guess. _________________

Figures I would find myself enjoying the other melee class more than the ranged classes. I just love how the monk can be played like kind of rogue/paladin hybrid. Holy pugilist. I think I just prefer the crunchy sense of feedback I get from these classes, and god damn teleport-punching is just the best.
Already on Act III, so maybe this will be a fun alt for Inferno once the patch rolls in. Sounds like I'll be providing barb tank services for some of you. Works for me!

I stepped into Whimsyshire in a random Inferno game. Then an elite purple unicorn hooved me for 70k damage.
So, kind of. _________________

Yeah, on my Demon Hunter I've been doing the hell mode of the pony level for money. I can usually clear it in 10-12 minutes and make 40-50k each clear with gold find gear, so it's nice to do. Also a group of us have characters in hell mode right now so it's a great way to find extra gear for us!
Just killed Inferno Belial on my demon hunter earlier, which felt pretty great. I've been trying to up my survivability on the character instead of doing JUST the typical die-in-one-hit-nukemaster. The good piece I have besides my necklace is a pair of pants with about 550 armor on it, and then 173 dex and 255 vit. _________________ I'm on Steam! ----- I'm on Youtube!

i noticed the commodity portion of the auction house is back up.
the gem prices don't make any sense at the moment. flawless square gems go for 1-2k a piece, where the next level up are trading for 50-60k?? if anyone wants to engage in gem arbitrage now is the time to do it. i don't have my gem guy leveled up enough for it :( |

I'm guessing this is because flawless square is the level of gem that starts dropping out of trash cans/pots/exploded monsters in the middle of hell and into inferno. Do perfects ever start showing up? I haven't seen any. |

They cost so much because flawless squares are the highest tier to drop (and they drop like fucking candy) and everything above them costs a shitload to craft (perfect squares are 30k a pop IIRC, which means radiant perfect is 90k+whatever it costs, and so on and so forth...).
I've read some fool spent 18 million to craft one (1) radiant star gem, and, quite frankly, that shit is not worth it for 18-22 stat points. _________________

Now that I'm home and I can see stuff, a +46 stat gem is, starting from flawless squares, 9(30k)+5(30k)+80k, or roughly half a million gold.
Oh, and this beauty here?
130,000 gold to craft (not counting value of mats, time, or the cost of the plan)
damnit haedrig, you asshole
i'm glad i killed your wife
(buff crafting)

Hit 51 today, finished up Nightmare mode...The whole act felt a little easy & it retrospectively felt a bit cheaty buying weapons from the AH for my character-level.. currently dishing out about 4K damage with my monkette.
I'm guessing Inferno and later stages of Hell will kick my over-grinded ass. (well, I didn't actually grind/farm...I'm just a little OCD with exploring the maps)
Game still feels fun after sinking 48 hrs into just one character.. |

Just finished off Inferno Butcher all by myself after my demon hunter and wizard companions died during the enrage.
Even got a nice "what a great tank!" compliment after he went down. Feels pretty good.
My equipment is coming along pretty well; I'm a bit more comfortable with my resists now. I use the impunity rune with my war cry, so it doubles all of them for me and everyone in the party! I use the inspiring presence skill, too, so it still provides a heal over time as well. All I really need now is a better weapon with some life steal and maybe a socket (for more life steal). I got a shitty monk set piece drop and sold it for 1.2 million gold, so maybe I'll be able to afford something eventually...
How'm I looking?

My resists are like 360 all and I just broke into Inferno. It's a lot easier to get resists on Monks though.
I need a weapon something fierce. They are god damned expensive. However, we determined tonight that Life on Hit on two weapons applies to each weapon strike, i.e. if you have 15 LoH with one weapon and 10 LoH with the other, you'll get 25 every time you hit. Whether that outweighs the mitigation you lose from a shield is debatable, but it also means you can buy two reasonably-priced weapons for like maybe 500k each with 300 LoH instead of one outrageous 10M weapon with 700 LoH. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |
