Also, the way memory card management works is neat. Each game basically gets its own memory card by default. If you want other saves on that card (Metal Gear?), you can load an existing memory card file. It's kind of silly how they have to complicate things to simplify a poorly thought out legacy design decision.

you should get a Xenogears file from the end of the game so you can Battling on the go
that would probably also be an ideal thing to let non-gaming people screw around with
no nice 2p tho
man I completely forgot that Xenogears tracks character weight which can be adjusted with food items and as far as anybody can tell this never does anything to gameplay and only changes a few small visual/dialog interactions in obscure places
oh oh hey I was meaning to ask - does playing on a PSP/Vita noticeably reduce load times over using a PS1? I would assume there would be at least some gain but does it make stuff more bearable? |

On my last Kawazu Kick, I believe it does! But probably about as much as PS2 loading improvements, aka mileage may vary. |

Vita sorta hacked, again
This isn't quite CFW for the Vita, but it does let you boot PSP stuff until Sony updates the firmware and you want to play or buy something new. I did this last go round on 1.80 with the MHFU exploit and it worked pretty well then, though it only did homebrew whereas this apparently can boot PSP isos.
Odds are, if you don't own either of minis required for 1.81, you will probably be out of luck by the end of the day
but let me tell you
Genesis games look real prudy on that damn screen _________________

got Ragnarok Odyssey, played for 30 minutes, 15 of which was making my character. There are 16 different female voices, all of which have been dubbed to yell out spell names. I played the first mission and beat up slimes with a giant drill hammer. Got a bunch of loot. Monster Hunter with lock-on, jumping, air-dashes and air combat. This is gonna be good. _________________

Still waiting on my Merc edition copy (fuck you Sandy), but I'm pumped for this game after I read some impressions that included the phrase "infinite air-dashing". Also been playing a bunch of Ragnarok Battle Offline to hype myself up, with the bonus of it being an actual good Ragnarok game (Online has lost its charms and DS was just Online, but as a single-player game, which is just, I don't know). Hearing more positive stuff about it makes me happy. _________________

So I thought this was an mmo? Is it actually something more like PSO? Can I have fun with this if I don't have friends with the game? _________________ PSN: TaipeiGamer |

From what I hear, it's an easier Monster Hunter. Which is great to me!
Remind me to pick it up in a bit after I finish this Pokemon _________________

RO is fantastic, though it seems to hew closer to PSO/PSU than it does MonHun. But it's faster. With jumping. And hats (well, hats are to be expected, Ragnarok Online was Hats: The Game before TF2 was).
Gonna be on during the night if you want to kill crap together, PSN: vitacin. _________________

Air dashes and air combat interest me. Is this mechanically anything at all like Gun Valkyrie, or is it just an in-air button mash fest like the Marvel vs. Capcom games?

It occupies a sort of half-way point; most of the time, you get an enemy into the air with a ground launcher, then go into air attacks, which correspond to your ground combo options. If they're still in the air or you haven't spiked them back down and you have enough AP, you can air-dash and start another combo. Some classes get more AP than others, and you can card your way into more AP.
It doesn't start leaning closer to Gun Valkyrie, if at all, until you fight a giant, where you get multiple air jumps and are encouraged to attack in mid-air as much as possible, especially if you want to break parts for loot.
If you've played it, the combat is closest to PSO2 without the infinitely continuing attack strings, instead ending in certain attacks or skills depending on when you introduce heavy attacks into the combo. It feels a bit limited, but they built around it enough that there is strategy in which one you employ at a given time. _________________

Has anyone tried the online yet on RagOd? I tried last night with a friend and we got disconnected almost right away every time. We could not get a game going at all. First-week online woes perhaps? Or maybe it won't tolerate the PSN Party going on at the same time... _________________

I did a couple of games last night and it worked smoothly most of the time. The main issue I ran up against was, even though rooms came up as green connections on search, other players would have higher pings in game. It didn't affect much aside from the occasional hiccup.
I've also read that the Vita party thing doesn't quite work yet with RO, but you can set room permissions to PSN friends only. _________________

We were just using the Vita party to talk and set room permissions to PSN friends to find the room. Strange though. Maybe the party was cocking up the connection. We live nearby, too. _________________

Okay, I lied about the not being like Gun Valkyrie thing
I've come to the conclusion that being an assassin is about being in the air as much as possible and dashing around like a hummingbird and stabbing things and all the ground is lava
and there's cards to boost air damage and air time and air dashing and
oh god, I unlocked cat ears at the hat vendor

Wait is it cumulative like that? I thought the freebies were only available for playing during a limited time frame? |

The way it works is if you download something while it's being offered, you then have it as long as you pay for Plus. If you don't get it before it rotates out, however, you can't grab it for free.
Also, you'll still probably pay out the ass for memory because Sony. _________________

Close but not quite. Plus will change the price of certain games to zero during a given month. If you purchase it but don't download it you should be fine. I might download them all to my ps3 before I get a vita, though... _________________ interdimensional |

Yeah, well, if you stop your subscription to PSN+ you lose access to all of those games anyway, so it's better to have bought copies. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

Yeah, if you want to have a forever collection it's better to have purchased copies than free PSN copies. But! When I purchase a console a few years into its life, I usually buy a TON of old games just to see what's there. You get AT LEAST one free game every month on PSN+. Being able to try out all those games for $50 is pretty sweet. That on top of having a PS3 that's constantly getting free games will be awesome. _________________ interdimensional |

I subbed to PSN+ for Locked Savegame Paranoia reasons, and being able to "purchase" a download of KOF13 to use when I don't feel like digging for the disc is a nice perk. _________________

Thanks to some magnificent luck and gift cards I now have a Vita and Ragnarok Odysee (with DJMax Technika Tune on pre-order for release hopefully sometime this month). The PS+ deal is lucky timing as well considering I got a PS+ subscription about three weeks ago.
notbov and landroverattack, what classes are you guys playing in RO? In the event we can ever get some games going together I'll aim to choose a different class. |

i play assassin, hammersmith and occasionally archer. classes are really fluid though since all the good stuff is things you find randomly, what class I play is just up to what the best weapon and cards I've found are. _________________

I started as cleric, but now I usually go hammersmith, assassin and sword warrior. I have setups for all the classes in different roles (healy cleric, asshole smith built around stunning and knockbacks, tanky swordie), so I'm flexible in running whatever.
I'll tell you this right off: sin is hilariously strong. Once you get a weapon or card with Double Attack on it, you will start shitting damage all over everything. The best part is that it actually stacks with crits, so if you have enough attack or crit power, you'll routinely be seeing 800-1k+ hits. On top of that, you can dash or air dash out of attack animations, so they're quite safe as well.
Other than that, clerics can pretty much counterattack anything. The biggest hits I've countered have been the drop kicks the Orc bosses use and when Fanfir's torso is rocketing around the stage (which is probably why a lot of boss attacks hit multiple times, regardless of how they look).
I guess it's worth noting as well that RO got an English demo this week. _________________

It's not that the wizards aren't strong, it's that to get that big damage, both you and your target have to be not moving for a good second or two, whereas any other class can do it while being relatively mobile. They're really good when the game goes all Musou/Warriors on you, though. _________________
