I'm mid-chapter 2 so I guess that makes us around even. It was amazing to see how much quicker everyone is compared to the Wizard once class-switching became available. I'm still not completely sure how to go about using his double cast! Mage has got some good range but it requires a lot of commitment in its attacks.
I returned my white PS Vita to Best Buy when it was announced the Assassin's Creed Bundle actually is getting discounted on Black Friday contrary to prior reports only to find out that Best Buy probably still won't have the white one discounted on BF. I guess I'll just get the black one, trade in Black Ops, and put those $50 to something else. Also, Pentavision has said they expect DJMax Technika Tune orders to go out November 30th, with the digital release schedules for December 4. If you prefer getting physical copies I'd suggest getting it soon since it's only being sold through the game's official website (expect a small print run) but having a digital version available to buy at any time down the line is really nice. |

Double casting while playing solo is viable if you stack cards with stun attack or you if you pop DS mode and hope it goes off before you get mauled from attacks. There's a few cards with wizards-only attributes that give Gravity Crush (the third heavy combo that leads to Heaven's Drive) extra chance to stun as well.
What I'm trying to say it play assassin. _________________

That's not a bug, that's a feature. The pessimist in me says that it's the first stop to removing PSP compatibility. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

I doubt it, since one of the free games from PS+ was a PSP game. And if a PSP game is a vector for a bootloader, they just remove it from the store until a firmware that fixes it is released.
For the record, mine is booting PSP stuff just fine.
Edit: It's also worth pointing out that there's still PSP exclusives scheduled through spring, so that's be pretty dumb at this point. _________________

ok so now it works without me having to do anything at all. I shut the thing down about 3 times trying to get it to work to no avail, a few hours later I turn it on and it works fine. I don't really understand this, but whatever. let's see if I can beat P3P before starting P4G or if I give in to the temptation _________________

I've played Unit 13. I like it a lot in small bursts, but it's somewhat bloated, gets repetitive fairly quickly, and the story is basically nonexistent. It's not really like the Club outside of having timed levels that promote score-attacks. The tone, target hunting, and powerups of the cub are missing, and to me that's kind of what defines the game. There's a demo for Unit 13 that you can pretend lasts for 8+ hours to get a good idea of the full game.

Dokuro is on sale $10 (it's usually $20). It's something I'd been wanting to pick up alongside New Little King's Story so the sale was welcomed. I've only played a two or three stages so far (which are themselves divided into 10 sections) and it's cute albeit mostly introductory, beginner level stuff. The chalk art style of the game looks nice and the personality is charming but the presentation is very minimalist and bare bones, and alongside the simple tune looping in the background it feels a little cheap (I think it was a full retail release in Japan, too). Most of the things I've seen so far are introductions to concepts and techniques but the puzzle-platforming looks like it has picked up in stage 3, which I reached this morning, so I think I'll enjoy it.
The game is essentially a giant escort mission. A princess has been captured by the demon king but one of the lowly skeleton soldiers falls in love with her and releases her from her cell. She can't see him but he helps get past all the traps she encounters on her way out of the castle. So basically the princess is always walking forward, though she's smart enough to stop at most dangerous obstacles, and you need to create a safe path for her. Lots of crate pushing, switches, levers, balance beams, etc. You can also draw with chalk on the screen to connect objects (hasn't been used too much to the point I'm in) and drink a potion to turn into a prince. When transformed the princess can actually see you and you can pick her up and carry her. You can also use a sword to actually kill enemies as opposed to swat them away like in your regular skeleton form.
Aside from that the Soul Sacrifice demo supposedly comes out tomorrow. Anyone up for trying that out in multiplayer? While set to Japanese it would also be cool to try out Picotto Knights and Samurai & Dragons, both of which are free multiplayer games on J-PSN. |

You have spells and weapons
they can break
yes, the spells can break
From the get go, even though it's not as weighty as Monster Hunter, it punishes poor, slow and inefficient play while rewarding some amount of flexibility (you can take any combination of 6 weapons, spells and buffs) and not-awful play. You can also pull buffs and weapons out of the environment, which is neat.
It's also probably the prettiest Vita game so far. _________________

In around 7.5 hours there will be a Vita focused live stream held by the head of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan. I suppose this means there will be minimal Vita talk at Playstation Meeting this Wednesday. I'm curious to see if they really have anything of substance to announce. You'd think so if they were doing a presentation like this but the last time they had "Vita Heaven" it was people talking about how they were going to make a game rather than announcing anything concrete. I can guess we'll probably see Muramasa, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, and an Atelier game but they need announce many, many new things that aren't ports and actually have a shot at coming West (i.e. not niche moe fluff). |

this is nice to see, especially after they teased a second Vita Heaven around summer time last year and it never happened
though I'm insulted by the insinuation that that Boob Ninjas Musou is niche moe fluff
now Monster Monpiece... that's niche moe fluff (that apparently is selling surprisingly well. I guess Japanese Vita owners wanted to give their systems handjobs really badly) _________________

Having woken up around the same time this started (bathroom) and watching some of it, aside from the price drop, nothing new was announced. In fact, the entire thing was centered around all the upcoming "hunting" games coming out for the system: PSO2, Soul Sacrifice, Toukiden and God Eater 2. The only outlier was the bit of footage of Valhalla Knights and a sizzle reel of all upcoming releases. The whole thing smacked of desperation, like they were trying to get people to forget about MH4 without invoking it directly. _________________

There were a couple more not-MH games (Gundam Breakers looks cool) but yeah, nothing new. I really wonder what's going on at Sony right now. Has the Vita's sales really made it so that no one wants to make anything new for it? Could be! But it is nice to see that Dragon's Crown isn't dead and the FFX models that stood around actually looked really nice. I thought it was going to be a straight upscale but it looks like they're actually remaking all the textures. Hopefully it turns into a game at some point.
What's the deal with the God Eater UMD Passport? Is this the same concept they said they would do for all PSP games and then cancelled? Why can they suddenly do it now and only for a week?

Some footage of it leaked out a few months back but it looked old and I think most people assumed it leaked because the game is canceled. |

That would not be surprising. I fully expect that game has been cancelled, which is a shame because the asynchronous multiplayer aspects they touted were neat. _________________ PSN: TaipeiGamer |

Guess so. Pretty busy day actually - Carnage Heart EXA released (playable on Vita), DOA5+, and the highlight for me are the new Hot Shots DLC courses. Those will probably suck me back into the game that dominated my Vita time for the first 4 months or so after I got the system. |

you can. in fact, it was A Thing when they put it up and it wasn't initially transferable to/buyable on the Vita. but now it is and you could have every Persona game with you on the system, provided there isn't some random version of P1 I'm missing
edit: don't feel like making another post for this, but after checking out the DOA5+ demo, it's not my thing but holy shit is it impressive. 60 fps and the important stuff looks great. _________________

You can even buy stuff from the web store instead of the laggy ones through the system. |

The site is non-obvious to access. First you search for the PlayStation Store, and you supposedly find it. But then you actually have to click a button that looks like it's in an advertisement to get to the actual store.
The web store still sucks, though. Use the search function or you won't be able to find anything that isn't popular enough. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

Guacamelee is great! It's a short and to the point metrovania brawler that's surprisingly non-condescending and is full of videogame references. The fighting system feels a bit like a Treasure game. I've been playing it across the PS3 and the Vita using cloud sharing and cross play. If the process was a little less manual it would feel like the future!

After a day of waiting, I finally downloaded the Soul Sacrifice Demo. Really digging it. For a monster hunting type game, I think it has a pretty wicked narrative to drive you along. It might almost be as depressing as Nier. I've gotten past the first bit of fights and I'm now ready to tackle multiplayer so fell free to bug me at RealPT-One on PSN. _________________

Soul Sac, now that I know what's going on and I'm not pawing at barely understanding things, is more clever and fun than the JPN demo let on
though, fuck that cerberus and his "I'm charging to shoot lightning out of my mouths and surprise, it's an aoe that stuns" _________________

I'm really enjoying getting back into the game even though I've only had time to play three quests this morning. There's a lot of lore to read in this game! It seems kind of interesting and I wonder how much of it will come into play during the actual game. It mentioned that sacrificing archfiends is the duty of a sorcerer but that the sorcerers' organization turns their head for the first few times someone does it. However if one makes a habit of saving archfiends then the organization sends an assassin to kill the "offending" sorcerer for disobeying the rules. I'm really curious if that will ever happen if you keep saving monsters.
But what's up with them renaming Merlin to Magusar? I can't think of any reason for that change unless the translators though Merlin was too boring of a name. I also miss Librom's voice being a male and female speaking simultaneously rather than the echoing male voice appearing in the English dub. Even more weird is how the Japanese dub is a pre-order exclusive DLC in the US.
I need to finish getting through this opening chapter before I can play online but maybe we can do something tomorrow. |
