It's kind of lame how they removed some of the content from Christmas NiGHTS. No Reala, no Sonic. Unless the game is still sensitive to the internal clock? That possibility seems remote. It was awesome to finally see the intro video/closing in English, though, since I've only ever owned it on import.

Also, I don't know why everyone says that paralooping Gillwing is easy. It took me forever (I constantly restarted his boss battle; bless that new feature) and even then, it was mostly through dumb luck. Every other boss is easier for me.

Anyway, this is still one of my favorite games ever. The last level is :'). And it oozes charm. Even the FMVs are delightful.

They redubbed the intro/closing scenes from X-mas NiGHTS! It's all British now instead of a stuffy nose girl boredly narrating.

Also I totally cleared Wizeman and Twin Seeds with an A and 2.0x! How do I upload this score?

Also yeah, man this game is so good. Everything is so gorgeous in HD! Xmas NiGHTS in particular is absolutely beautiful! Aghhh come back old Sonic Team!

EDIT: Oh, it just took a while to upload. I'm rank 23 on Twin Seeds (Elliot) with a score of 105540. These guys are pretty damn good.

What was up with Claris's Halloween costume!?! And gray NiGHTS!?! Is this to make up for the lack of Reala? Why did it go away?

Also, I never knew you could move that car in Mystic Forest until noticing the trophy for it. Awesome. Are there any other weird little tasks like that in the game that aren't pointed out in the trophies?

Everything involving A-life!
Did you know you can merge an enemy with a Nightopian and they'll have a baby that's a half breed? If you raise enough generations of them, they'll eventually hatch a King Pian who'll rule over all Nightopians! He builds a little castle and sits in it himself!

I only found that out years after playing. So many layers, this game.

Yeah! I discovered that Mepians by accident. It's bizarre how I've played this game so much over the years and managed to miss how cool A-life is. AND DUDE WHAT. A little King Pian!? This game was so lovingly crafted. Incredible.

It's cool if I added you on PSN, right, Persona? We can compete for scores. >:D

Sonic the Fighters makes me the happiest, because if they are willing to port that presumably they will be willing to port anything.

Blargh, wrote a post yesterday, forum ate it, and I was too annoyed to retype it. Anyway, the gist of it is I'm curious what to expect of these ports. I sure hope VF2 won't be as baffling as the PS2 version (which didn't use the Saturn graphics but still strangely was noticeably inferior to the arcade version, also it was missing attract mode demos and was IIRC pretty bare bones features wise), never played the PS2 version of FV so I can't speak to the quality of that though. The recent Sega Vintage Collection releases seem to mostly use the excellent M2-developed PS2 collections as blueprints, so I hope the same applies here so we get something that's actually good and not like, well, some of the lesser PS2 re-releases. (edit: or like a lot of garbage re-releases already on XBLA)

Also I'm curious how the hell they're planning to make VF2 look appealing when you can buy VF5FS for 15 bucks. To be honest even 10 bucks for all three of these doesn't feel like it'd be terribly worthwhile (unless they also come with some pretty damn amazing extras).

It's kind of funny too because the new Yakuza game is going to have VF2 in it too.

i already have copies of all three games, but i'd probably pay 800 funbux for an xbla compilation of them. maybe i'm just an idiot, though

plus i have hope that sales of this might lead to a sequel compilation of last bronx, fighting vipers 2 and fighters megamix. lol futility

Actually they don't have the original source code of VF2 (or pretty much anything related to the era), so M2 coded the first working Model2 emulator for that release (actually based on the one they did for Sega Rally?). But as an emulator written on a budget, some things never quite lined up, like texture mapping and some specific LOD things that weren't emulated (and that's why the backgrounds are wrong). Eventually they focused on mechanics and framerate over graphical accurancy.

Strangely I don't recall the FV port, but I think they had a PC version to base themselves off (same case as Dinamite Deka and Virtua On).

if they released the ps2 version of dynamite cop with the golden axe characters and segata sanshiro intact, that would be amazing. maybe it could form part of a second golden axe collection, alongside revenge of deathadder and golden axe the duel :?D

apparently, toejam and earl 1 and 2 are being released next month?

No matter what the excuse/explanation, the PS2 VF2 is still pretty wonky. I would hope that they'd sorted out whatever issues they had at this point, but I'm not taking anything for granted when it comes to Sega or digital re-releases in general.

Loki, PS2 Dynamite Deka is coming to PSN in Japan either this month or next (or it might even be out? Don't have my PS3 to check at the moment), and I'm buying the fuck out of that since I never did manage to pick it up when it came out. Had no idea about Segata Sanshiro and Golden Axe characters though, but that just gets me even more stoked to buy it.

As for Golden Axe, it's a real shame that series never got a proper SEGA AGES collection treatment on the PS2. The original (and various ports - plenty to choose from there), Revenge of Death Adder, II, III and GAWarrior would make for quite an appealing package. Moreso than the god awful remake they did release anyway, that's for sure. Same with Shinobi for that matter - arcade and console versions of the original game, arcade Shadow Dancer, MD Shadow Dancer, Super Shinobis I & II, and GG Shinobis I & II. Including the Saturn one would probably have been too much to ask for, but even without it it'd make for a hell of a collection.

There's a PC port of the game. Maybe it's possible to crank up its resolution to HD levels?

It would be pointless to have a HD version without new models and textures, though.

Argh, not Game Gear, we want the Master System version when possible!

Shadow Dancer also has a Master System version that's different enough to be a different game and hence worth including.

the gg shinobis were game gear only, and they were unique games rather than ports

Unfortunately X-mas NiGHTS isn't too fun without having all those prizes to unlock. Just beating Claris and Elliot once will unlock Nightopian Collection and the gallery and that's it.

The rest of the game is pretty sweet though!

Seems a lot easier to get a Mepian this time around. I swear I've never ever had one before in the Saturn versions but here I got one in the first hour of playing and so did Kinucakes.

If it's the same as the PS2 version, there are minor balance changes between "regular" and "Saturn" mode.

Yes, but what I meant is that either due to resolution or something, I think Saturn Memories mode was marginally harder than normal mode, and also closer to the original Saturn version.

I wonder if the control problem is because of the controller working differently than the Saturn analog pad? Because I had the same problems with the PS3 version too.
