I was browsing The Cutting Room Floor's Sonic sections and found some unused music I haven't heard before:

Honey's track (?) from Sonic the Fighters
http://tcrf.net/images/f/fe/SonicTheFighters_Track25.ogg

Unused Sonic CD Time Attack music from the beta
http://tcrf.net/images/7/75/Sonic_CD_%28Beta%29_25_510proto.ogg

Unused song from Sonic & Knuckles Collection PC
http://tcrf.net/images/a/a2/Sonic3kPCUnusedThemeMusic.ogg

This reminded me how much I played the Sonic & Knuckles Collection even though I had the roms playable on my computer. I guess it was just cooler to have an official piece of Sega soft playing on my computer or something. Also it came with a 500 mb screensaver that was half the size of my hard drive at the time. It was the coolest!

Also weird that it used midis for its BGMs that were specially rewritten for it, resulting in that unused extra song right there.

It's interesting to hear the range of music styles that was considered "Sonic" back in the day. I miss it.

That Sonic and Knuckles PC collection was pretty neat. Sonic 3 had original music made specifically for the PC version to replace some Genesis tracks thought to be composed by Michael Jackson. I still have a copy of it too.

I don't remember a screensaver, but I recall it containing wallpapers.

If I remember correctly, at the end of the day, Sonic 3 had a grand total of 17 music composers working on it.

I haven't heard the midis in a decade. Do you know where I can hear them?
I think I filled up every save slot on the PC version and on the Genesis cart with Sonic, Sonic & Tails, Knuckles, Tails by himself and some combinations of them with all the emeralds. Loved that game :v

Actually, that's the Title Screen music from the beta, afaik.

Also, that Outrun shirt owns.

Here are some more unused songs from the Sonic series:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thEQXq0hrvE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8F2-3Yxbss (yes that was re-used as Sonic 4's boss theme)

And here are some beta songs from Sonic Heroes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7sZnILBL9I

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq6V4fjo1jw

And the E3 beta of Leaf Forest from Sonic Rush, maybe they didn't have Naganuma on board at that time in development? A short part of it was re-used as music for a cutscene in the game.

Oh it's interesting hearing about the Sonic 3d Blast music reused in Sonic 4. I remember some of the Sonic Adventure tunes come from the Genesis version of 3d Blast too. An odd gem, that Genesis version. I only played the Saturn one so I don't know anything about it.

The reason to both those things (boss theme being re-used in Sonic 4, tracks being re-used in Sonic Adventure) is because Jun Senoue was one of the main composers for the Genesis version of 3D Blast (and also one of the main composers of Sonic Adventure and the only composer of Sonic 4)

Just backed this Sega history book on Kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1532433459/service-games-the-rise-and-fall-of-sega-enhanced

I hope the editor he gets helps redesign the thing to be snazzy as hell.

I never read that SEGA history thing! I've been reading it for the past couple of days, it's pretty interesting!!

But I agree with the Kickstarter, it gets way too redundant, with the same informations and quotes being re-posted again and again, and it has way too many wrong facts in there, especially regard Sonic. Yuji Naka isn't the Shigeru Miyamoto of SEGA, Oshima and Yasuhara (who wasn't even mentioned anywhere there!) should receive equal credit that Naka received on the conception and creation of Sonic the Hedgehog, it's also wrong about what went down on Sonic X-Treme's development, about Sonic CD being developed by Naka (it was not), about implying that it was created after Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (which I found weird that it wasn't really talked about at all?), plus the obvious SEGA "fanboy-ism" of the article, but I guess those are all forgivable considering the timespan that it was written.

Toe Jam has 3 legs and thus the most toes with which to jam.
Earl is the big dude.

Guys it's probably JP 3ds anyway. Meaning we'll never see it, or at least won't see it for a few months.

Hey there's a Sega sale going on on PSN/XBLA! http://blogs.sega.com/2012/11/21/thanksgiving-sale/
PSN is getting the real deals though, unless you want to get a cheap copy of Monster World for XBLA (which is never a bad idea!!).

Sleazy, I found out for you - it's a remix by Chibitech since the port's done by M2.

Man I've had an ISO of that sitting on my computer for years but I never played it! So cute!
I like how you can buy a smile and she goes, "Ufu!"

Also maybe the first and only appearance of Opaopa making audible noises

Opa Opa would not gain that view of flying again until Planet Harriers
Unfortunately the parts shop in that game is not run by a cute teenager

Speaking of parts shops, the shops in Segagaga have the same theme music too

Segaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Same deal for all of the other menu tunes in the other Sega Vintage games.

(I know this goes without saying, but Chibitech is pretty much the best, guys)

I ordered mine a couple of days ago, but if you don't, the fantastic Chogokin Elenor RAcaseal is a ridiculously good price right now from HLJ ($37 plus shipping vs the $50 it goes for):

According to their Facebook page, Sega has patched proper analog support into Nights:
Quote:
We've released a patch for NiGHTS into dreams... on PSN and XBLA. First, we’ve adjusted the controls to allow analog input in 24 directions, which will give you greater control. Second, we’ve changed the drill-dash speed so it aligns with the Saturn version of the game. The patch is available now!

Thanks for this, playing the demo I actually decided to not buy it specifically because of this control issue (it converted the analog stick to a 8-way :(). I'll almost certainly end up buying it now.

I bought Fighting Vipers today. I am terrible at it but if anyone wants to play my gamertag is goreyhaim

Really happy that with my 360 I can play tons of Sega games that I never got to play because I didn't own a Saturn.

edit: I'm still holding out for Fighterse Megamix and Last Bronx.

edit 2: also VF Kids.

fighters megamix is more difficult to put on 360 than the model 2 games (probably because there's no ps2 version to port and it'd have to be an all-new hd remake), but if those are a success, it might happen
