Still waiting on a PC release for now, or possibly for the price to go down. As neat as it looks, I've heard from quite a few people that it tails off significantly. The maelstrom gif is equally impressive. If nothing else, whoever made this spent a lot of time in making it look spectacular.

I still sort of wish this was taken one step further though, with things like destructible environments, where you could cast a maelstrom spell and literally rip buildings in half. Also, weather/seasons would be nice, but it doesn't seem like that's a thing.

What does "tails off" mean?

Becomes less and less interesting as you play more of it.

The demo will let you use the create-a-character system, which contains a bit more depth than your average create-a-character. You can use vastly different body types, as exemplified here: http://www.capcom-unity.com/gregaman/blog/2012/02/23/dragons_dogma_dev_blog:_deep_customization_features

The cool thing is that you can import that character data into the full game if you get it. Kind of a nice concession.

As a disclaimer, I did work on this title, so take this as you will. But I wouldn't be talking about the game here if I didn't actually think it was pretty cool.

You can, thankfully, mute the voice acting. Still, good god is it ever awful.

I want this game to be Souls Quest very badly.

The bloke in this video sort of makes it sound like it:

I like that night in this game is NIGHT. This was the video where my froth began.

I'm glad the two examples he shows of characters are mammoth negro & bowlcut bishonen.

(edit: embeded using my new powers of knowledge)

That is good to know. It was probably my main concern about having AI companions, aside from general concerns that they'll occasionally misbehave in a jarring manner the way Skyrim's companions do. I think the whole idea of sending Pawns to other player's worlds is really interesting, though — not exactly like D. Souls where you actually get to participate directly, but perhaps another unique take on something resembling multiplayer. I hope it works as well as it sounds.

Yeah I'm probably going to buy this game at some point so long as the reception isn't terrible. Going to have to filter out the "yeah, but Skyrim" and the "yeah, but Dark Souls," and maybe even the "yeah, but Monster Hunter" reactionaries.

Luckily I will have the benefit of a rather large buffer called Diablo III before the need to determine what the hell this thing is really about will even arise.

Probably the best video I've seen for the game just for what goes on at :30.

My big concern was that the game would turn into a hack and slash Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance without co-op. Looks to be a little more depth to it, especially with being in the game.

I really hope Capcom figures out a way to make money off this game while also figuring out a way to add more enemies overtime for little cost. i'm such a dreamer

After beating Dark Souls and playing Skyrim now I'll probably take a few months off from games about killing dragons, no matter how good they are.

i'm actually curious about it because i don't feel like playing dark souls right now but i would like to play something sort of like skyrim

kinda hoping there's a way to turn off the widescreen thing that happens when a pawn is about to do a cool attack

So apparently it's been confirmed that you can play without pawns at all (or choose a number, from 1-3). I am considerably more excited by this game now.

Oh yeah, they're also selling 100 quests as DLC for $7 day one. Oh Capcpom.

Yeah.

Ugh. Seriously, how hard is it to figure out the difference between good DLC and bad DLC? These companies certainly make it seem mighty difficult.

That sounds pretty bad at face value but all the quests I've seen have been hilariously non-pertinent to unique experiences. I think one had the objective "Complete the task."

Sort of just sounds like easier ways to acquire more rare things by packaging them in a kill sheet.

Anyways, I'm probably in the minority since a dragon eating my character's heart so I must kill it is already bordering on too much plot being forced down my throat when I just want to radically kill cool things.

i hope they keep it light on the exposition. I am with GrimSweeper.

this is honestly the most exciting thing i've seen from capcom in a while! i'm glad they still make games like this.

the DLC thing… can't they at least wait a month? who's going to finish every quest in the game on the first day? or are they just trying to pre-empt people discovering that stuff on the disc?

I'll take day 1 DLC any day. On disc content that has a pay wall that isn't available until next financial quarter seems anti-consumer. My biggest problem with SFxT DLC was that Capcom wanted their bread buttered on both sides, getting maximum return on dlc, reducing churn rate on physical copies, and getting special treatment from Sony for making the VITA version artificially relevant.

Whoever thought about making available on disc dlc 6 months after the main release a "title release" on their development calendar is probably a sociopath. Greg, can you confirm?

Same. This is much more interesting than the Grab On video. It's nice to see a game taking the old Nighttime = Harder Life transformation to a really serious endpoint. I still wish the environments didn't look so dusty and plain.

The guy made two other videos too which do a pretty good job of explaining things.

Jobs (and a bit about controls):

TLDW;

There's a job system, you can change jobs, some skills carry over.

It looks like there's an action palette (like PSO) where you put your abilities. You get two of these which you can switch between on the fly. If you want to remap or change abilities you have to do it at a bonfire town.

Pawns

TLDW;

you can share you pawn online with your friends!! i enjoy this man, i think he knows exactly who he's dealing

you make pawns, equip them with gear (That you buy), and send them off into the pawn-o-verse to help other players.

pawns gain experience and items, and somehow knowledge about quests that they help other players complete. if they've done a quest that you haven't, they'll supposedly be able to give you information about what to expect? this isn't elaborated sadly.

It sounds like they'll just have some extra dialogue and/or guide you to places you may not have noticed on your own, which is... fine, but I kind of hope it does something more fun and surprising than that. The idea seems potentially cool...

So I guess everyone who enjoyed Dark Souls will wait to see if someone who enjoyed Dark Souls recommends it.

Seriously though the combat seems really well done and zero fun to play.

I've only watched videos but Amalur's combat looked like dumb shit?

Anyway yeah, I never followed much Dragon's Dogma because the first video looked like a Souls for dummies(I think remote's quote is referring to that), this latest batch of videos makes it really interesting. It is also seems to satisfy the only urge Dark Souls couldn't: pretty flowing capes.

Does anyone know if whether or not an attack lands in this game is based on actual aiming/proximity or is it a dice roll (unless you just blatantly run your ass off before an enemy can attack). like Final Fantasy 12?
