Yeah, I think it's more likely that they had the wait period to allow people to join outside of the match. But there is just no way you need that much time to 'stabilize', sorry. Networks don't work like analog tuning, either you get packets or you don't.
I've heard relatively good things for its netplay otherwise, aside from the whole input delay thing. And of course if they used a rollback method all of this would be moot and even the occasional lobby problems wouldn't exist. But whatever. _________________ twit |

Bought this today, and it's still downloading. Only been about 7 hours or more. Dunno why my PS3 is so horrid at PSN downloads. Hulu and Netflix playback with no trouble. _________________ Steam/PSN/Xbawks: GcDiaz

I fought their Lau today with Goh and almost won except in the last round they did PPPK Mode. Also Goh isn't the best match up against Lau (moreso since I'm not great with him). They're honestly pretty bad (I've been winning about 75% of the time in ranked matches), so I'm not sure how they have 3000+ fights to their name with 8000+ points. Maybe because PPPK.
Also lost to a Shun player who upon winning sent me the message "Yeah fuck you" and I responded with "Grow up." |

So far the only hate mail I've gotten was from people with really high disconnect rates that I refused to play.
One of them I actually played once, just because I was naive, and he disconnected right as I was about to beat him. When it tried to match me up with him again, I disconnected and received: "whatever nigga"
The second hate-mail was just "u weak ass cracker", to which I replied "my ass is strong." He got the last word though: "gay"
Basically Virtua Fighter is a mature deep fighting game its online community is much more mature and intellectual than any other fighting game's. |

| Ran across a dang decent player named Moses-Melissa today and did unranked matches with them for about two hours. My Akira bested theirs, but I couldn't do much when they switched to Sarah and I was Kage (lots of awful baiting). We were about even when they stayed with Sarah and I played as Goh. Matches usually ended up with the winner winning 3 matches and the loser winning 1 (often with an EXCELLENT in the middle). Crazy thing is that they only tech recovered 10% of the time. Obviously this meant that I got to do a lot of ground throws with Goh, so who knows what the match-ups would be like if they did tech recover all of the time. Hopefully M-M will respond to my friend request because they'd be fun to have in a lobby. |

Finally got around to playing this again for a bit yesterday, first time in like a few weeks.
I got completely mauled :(
Need to find some more time to practice. I've been meaning to learn some new characters (still playing 100% Jean for now), likely Blaze, Sarah, Wolf or some combination thereof. Kinda sucks though how getting beat up somewhat kills my motivation to start over from scratch, as it were, learning a new character instead of just improving my game with Jean. :/
game is still mad fun though :D |

GhaleonQ. Look for me as a really annoying Eileen player, with Brad and Lion as my backups.
By rights, this is the best 3-d fighting game ever made. Everyone still fits together so well, yet it's not as rigid or austere as earlier entries in the series. |

Dinghy and I came across JunoSynth in ranked matches last week. Not sure how Dinghy fared, but it came down to the last match for Juno and me, both of us Lion. Each of us had low lifebars, and he got me with one of Lion's showier throws. He's good! And apparently one of the highest ranked people.
Right now, my best to worst is probably something like: Lion > Akira > Goh > Vanessa > Kage
...Kage... where did we go wrong...
I am feeling more and more like the rebounce was a silly addition. Anyone else?
Edit: Dinghy, I surpassed you today by graduating to Barbarian... |

Sup, I finally found this thread!
I used to play Aoi in 4/4 Evo, now I main Brad with a side of Pai.
So, what do I have to do to join this SB lobby or whatever? just add a bunch of people?
My PSN is iacusm
Let's hope my shitty connection allows me to have any decent matches with you guys. If you don't see me doing ukemis, is because the lag screws with my timing. I swear! _________________ Guayaba 2600 |

JunoSynth is actually a colorado player, and he (along with TexasLion, who is also apparently extremely good) never shows up to gatherings or tournaments for some inexplicable reason. And he's on PSN so I can't play him! Why have I been punished so hard for being on 360 aaaaahh |

Started trying to learn Wolf. Going pretty fucking terrible so far! I'm kind of struggling to familiarize myself with his movelist, which has the unfortunate side effect of me kind of default to trying to throw whenever I feel unsure of what to do... even when I know that I'm in frame disadvantage and that throwing is a really bad idea. I really wish I had someone to play local VS with and really grind it out, but considering the online actually works well, I don't feel like I can complain too much. Just a matter of putting in more time studying and practicing.
It's kinda cool though, I'm really eager not to just play the game more, but to learn more characters as well. Whenever I played Evo or 5 I never even felt tempted to move away from my main character (Sarah/Blaze respectively - incidentally between rust and changes, I can't do fucking shit with either in FS), partly because I felt at home with them, but also because the idea of learning someone else was just too daunting. While both those things are still true to some extent, there are actually a lot of characters that I feel seem fun, and randomly mashing with them doesn't feel as discouraging as I'd expect, but rather it makes me hungry to actually learn. Akira is someone I always wrote off as being too complex to even bother trying with, but just going through his movelist he has so much god damned cool stuff that I'm starting to feel tempted to learn him as well. Having said that I'm not sure how rewarding it is to dabble in half the cast when I could be focusing on a smaller number of characters. For I'm focusing on Wolf and Jean I guess, but it remains to be seen who I'd like to tackle next.
(ps I have more customization pics to share as well, whenever I can be bothered) |

Though this might be naivety, I've never understood why complexity would be one of the dissuading factors in learning Akira. If anything, I think most people are put off by most of his movements and standard combos being so blunt and short, respectively speaking. You can pick Pai for the first time and, mashing away, still receive the impression that your actions have a sort of flow and default rapidity to them. With Akira, it seems to me, the challenge is realizing and incorporating his identity as a character who is defined by bite-sized chunks of movement. The same is sort of true about Goh, I think (I'm just now realizing the utility of simply stalling his P, P in FS), although there is still a very appreciable difference between his and Akira's movements.
A few days ago I fought Cha-mame3 -- a really, really, really good Sarah player, and (last I checked) the person with the highest rank on the PSN scoreboard. They ruined my Akira. |

| The problem with Akira is that if you can't do the KNEE consistently you're missing out on a huge part of his game, and the KNEE is still stupid bullshit. |

I love the way Akira plays and the way his movements look too :\ It's just that other characters are easier, comparatively speaking. Also they require less button input at a slower speed, which is a factor (although as large a factor as, say, KOF). |

| I am buying this on 360. My gamertag is "DJ Orwell". This will be the first fighting game I'll attempt to actually understand to some degree. I tried it briefly and it seemed like a more intelligent and elegant Tekken. |

This is especially true because when a person is just beginning a game/is bad at a game, they aren't planning ahead or entering with a strategy. To me, I don't think the continuous mashing habit is as common as the reactive habit: "OMG ATTACKING INCOMING MASH MASH MASH." Characters who rely on timing aren't useful to those people there. |

I should hook up my PS3 to my cap card and record the Shun match I had with a guy who sat there and drank for two rounds while I danced around ten feet away doing Slide Shuffles and stance changes. Then handed me my ass the next three. Then sent me a message saying "I LIKE YOU (*^.^*)." _________________ HeavyViper@Twitter ~~~ HeavyViper@Soundcloud

The knee is symptomatic of what makes Akira so daunting to learn, but it's hardly the only reason. He's simply a very high-execution character, and he's not designed to be very approachable to beginners. The "mash-friendliness" of characters like Pai make some of them a little less intimidating, and I found Jean very simple to grasp on account of his movelist being quite small, with most of his moves having a quite clear purpose. Akira on the other hand doesn't really have either. He doesn't have a ton of stances, and he doesn't have a hugely sprawling movelist, but he has tons of moves that are very situational and where it's not at all obvious when, why and how you're supposed to use them.
Those are my impressions anyway - like I said I'm struggling with Wolf (and frankly hardly doing amazing with Jean either) so I dunno how tempted I am to dabble in other characters for now anyway, but when it comes to learning other characters Akira isn't exactly highest on my list. But he's climbing, I guess. |

| Urrrghhhh four disconnects today and three were definitely purposeful. One was from a Sarah player called tokoguno. In our first match, with me as Goh, they didn't do anything except back up then come forward and backflip or do some basic flamingo stance thing. When I fought them again as Lion and started to decisively beat them because they had nothing else to offer, they disconnected on the first match. Dumb. Why do people care so much about numbers. Like, the more you rank up, the more ranks you can de-rank from . . . so these people are going to be stuck in an increasingly violent hell of switching off their PS3 |

| Played a Lei-Fei named skitzrAU. This name turned out to be very apt. Dude was all about Pressing Buttons. We had a long set (like 20 games). I think I came out on top (I don't take online that seriously; input lag and dudes not playing properly). He had two habits that he did not change at all during our set (finish string, guard low as well as PRESS BUTTONS!!!). Consistently did Lion's 6PP to punish. Need to practice combos; Lion isn't about them but it's still necessary to have some 65+ damage combos I think. |

Gotta punish them with Up Punch and watch them cry!
What music do you guys have set for your VF5FS? I always roll with the VF2 soundtrack because that's how I remember my VF.
Also if you have good matches, save some replays! I have like a thousand replays saved of my worst/hilarious matches.
