Oh man, I forgot about that Ezio being in Soul Calibur. That sets up an easy link to George Washington. I thought I was going to have to go through Civ with Rasputin.
Now I just have to figure out how to link The Ghostbusters. _________________

Oh hey, that's right. The Ghostbusters were in Infestation 1 by IDW, which also had the Transformers. They then get linked in via Optimus Prime through Dream Fighters. _________________

What about a game where the sprites are localized differently for each region? There was a gameboy game where the characters were from ghostbusters in the US, Garfield in the EU, and Mickey Mouse in Japan. _________________

Rudimentary DoA link: Nobunaga via Onimusha and then Ryu and Ayane via Warriors Orochi 3. That also links Cao Cao, Joan of Arc, Achillies, and Sun Wukong. Abe no Seimei too, although it would be kind of weird how more than a few videogame versions of Abe no Seimei are female. _________________

A Scribblenauts DC Universe game has been announced.
It will apparently include every DC character.
I'm hoping The Manikin is in it.
So are the musou games factored in yet? I'd be willing to sort through those to see how they cross-pollinate.
Ah, just saw the Dynasty Warriors tie in through Ryu Hayabasa. You can also get there one step faster with Ryu > Soki > Hideyoshi Toyotomi > Cast of Warriors Orochi _________________

Or I guess you can also get there in the same number of steps with Ryu > Amaterasu > Princess Kaguya
I want to say there's a way to get there faster with Joan of Arc but I just can't visualise it.
There's been a few characters newly added as playable to the musou series' after Orochi 3. 7 Empires had Xu Shu, though he was also a recruitable general in Kessen II. 8 has Yue Jin, Li Dian, Lu Su, Han Dang, Zhang Bao, Guan Xing, Guan Yinping, Jia Chong, Zhang Chunhua, and Wen Yang. A lot of those showed up as non-playable generic generals in earlier games, but I don't know if those count anymore.
It's a shame if you're only counting playable characters now, because that's going to knock Nellie Bly off the list (Since she's connected by rasputin, who isn't a party member in Shadow Hearts or Martian Dreams).
Believe you me I'm still trying to figure out how to get the Ghostbusters on this list. _________________

.hack takes place in the far future year of 2010. In this desolate post-apocalyptic world all computer systems in the world have been wiped out by super viruses except for the computers of a single manufacturer. They quickly became the sole electronics provider for the entire world, and on their system they have only a single video game: The World. Most of the characters in .hack are the avatars of humans playing the game; the avatars themselves have no personality. A few characters in the games are AIs. The World has its own lore like any MMO, but the program was also designed as an incubator for the first human-like AI. The process of birthing this AI led to many areas of the game world being locked off and filled with junk data and half-formed sentient AIs.
I'm running into so many brick walls with Ghostbusters. The DLC packs for LBP and Reality Fighters are pretty explicitly just costumes, and not characters. The Ghostbusters also almost never fight public domain characters in the games. According to the instruction booklet for Ghostbusters Genesis one of the final bosses' forms is named Bazoozoo, which might be a mistranslation of Pazuzu, but that's not enough to link the two gods together. The most recent Ghostbusters mobile game has Jabberwocky and Boogeyman, but those might just be names and not *The* Jabberwocky and Boogeyman. _________________

You can invite befriended characters to your party, and give them general tactics, but I don't believe any of the games lets you directly control them. During the game's storyline players will often be offline or busy and won't return invites, but in the post-game everyone is always available to be invited.
Also I'm not really sure how Kessen works, but a common feature in almost all the Musou Empires, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and Nobunaga's Ambition games is letting you pick any known general at any point in the timeline and play the game as them. Some of the games even have achievements for playing as a completely unimportant person and eventually rising high enough to unite the country. _________________

Well, as a consolation they did add a female rookie, and the game doesn't freeze constantly in the last level like the PS2 version.
Too bad about the striker ban. That's going to make it harder for me to get Slayers on the list. I'm damn well going to try, though. _________________

Goddamnit. I just found out that the Statue of Liberty is playable in the amiga version of Ghostbusters II, which would link the Ghostbusters to Earthworm Jim through Clayfighter 63 1/3 Sculptor's Cut, but I'm at a dead end from Jim. There's a Santa in Clayfighter, but he's understood to be an evil clone of the actual Santa. _________________

Notable people who show up in MoH Underground's MP mode:
Manon
Jimmy Patterson
Philippe Petain
Marie Antoinette
Joan of Arc
Cyrano de Bergerac
Max Schreck/Count Orlok (debatable)
Napoleon
Quasimoto
Charles de Gaulle
The Statue of Liberty
Julia Child (debatable, probably doesn't count)
The rest have names that are too generic or common for me to tell if they're supposed to be real people. One oddity is Schalgermeister, who the gamefaqs cheat page refers to as Heino. Considering how the character is modeled in a smoking jacket, turtleneck, and sunglasses it seems as if he's supposed to be someone, but I can't figure out who.
ALSO:
appearing in MoH's MP mode are
Manon
Jimmy Patterson
Wernher von Braun
William Shakespeare
Winston Churchill
Rosie the Riveter
Doesn't seem like any of the other characters are unique. _________________

Now the question is how they got from Heino to Schalgermeister. _________________

Just a quick primer on SRW:
Axel Almer and Einst Alfimi are playable characters in SRW OG Saga EF: Exceed. They're also playable characters in SRW A and SRW Impact (respectively) and both are playable in SRW OGs and OG Gaiden (I think Gaiden has all the same characters as OGs plus a few extra, but it's a sequel to OGs so a few might be missing). SRW A and I will link to a bunch of licensed properties, including Amuro and Kouji Kabuto who are in damn near every SRW. OGs and OG Gaiden will link them to almost every OG character in the series, which could link them closer to a particular property.
When you said you couldn't tell if a particular unit was piloted by its actual pilot I think you were thinking of the SD series, which is a separate universe where everyone is a gundam. I don't know if there's a link to that particular universe, but the Lu Bu gundam in Gundam Musou 2 is from there.
I'll put together a list of the playable non-striker characters in Legend of Dynamic so that we can get Devilman and Cutey Honey on the list.
Legend of Dynamic:
Cutey Honey
Sister Jill
Akira Fudo
Sirene
Violence Jack
Slum King
Mitsuko Yagyu (Harenchi Gakuen)
Hige Gojira (Harenchi Gakuen)
Jiro Shutendo (Shutendoji)
Kitani (Shutendoji)
Enma-Kun
Kouji Kabuto (Mazinger Z)
Sayaka (Mazinger z)
Boss (Mazinger Z)
Ryoma Nagare (Getter Robo)
Shinichi (can't figure out this series)
Genzo
Susa (Susano Oh)
Uryuu (also unsure of this series)
Kekko Kamen
Kikkai-kun
Iron Kaiser
Ryo Utsugi (Mao Dante)
Miroku (Miroku)
Animal Kedaman
Dorano (Animal Kedaman) _________________

Nope, that guide only lists appearances. Most of those pilots show up as antagonists.
None of the characters I listed are strikers. There's another 40 characters who are strikers/equipment. One of them being Go Nagai himself, who I wish I could get on the list.
Come to think of it, there might be a link to those SD games through kamen rider/ultraman, since kamen rider is always kamen rider even when he shows up in a soccer game.
Also I found a glitch in the site. Unless something's getting truncated the system thinks that Tekkaman Blade is in Showdown Legends of Wrestling. _________________

Kouji Kabuto, Sayaka, Boss, and Ryoma will once the SRW games are linked.
Oh yeah, I had forgotten about Tekkaman Blade. That would link into SRW J, and with it Kouji. Not Amuro though; you'd need one more step for that.
Man I was just going to try and create a terribly unwieldy daisy chain of links built on Blizzard flash games in order to link Kerrigan to the web when I realised all I had to do was wait for Blizzard All Stars. _________________

The list kind of flipflops on whether it uses macrons or not.
I can't find a character list I like for OGG or 2ndOG, but I found a good one for OGs that links to Axel and most of the other SRW games. _________________

I've always found them worthless for databases, since they're such an uncommon occurrence in the english alphabet that there isn't a keyboard shortcut for them. You have to use the character map, and no one wants to do that when they could just type "ou".
Anyways I've got lists of the pilots from SRWJ and SRWOGs now. Both lists omit co-pilots who don't have pilot stats. I'm not sure if I'm comfortable adding them to the spreadsheet myself when I'm still not sure how you're using those bracketed categories. _________________

Now that Jesus is in the web, does Adult Swim's Bible Fight fit the criteria of the list? The game had two producers, which is two more than a lot of 1980s games had. _________________

http://www.gamefaqs.com/saturn/562840-super-robot-taisen-f-kanketsuhen/faqs/4836
This is a good guide to the playable pilots of Super Robot Wars F Final (Or Super Robot Wars F Kanketsuhen. They're both official). Just include everyone between Amuro Ray and Garrison Tokida while skipping co-pilots. For instance, Shou Zama is a pilot while Cham Frau is not, because Cham Frau only has spirit commands and no stats.
There's a few spelling irregularities which I guess is par for course. The ones I noticed were Kamille Bidan (which is official these days, even though I prefer Camille), Henken Bekkener, Judau Ashita, Roux Louka, Beecha Oleg, Birgit Pirjo, Allenby Beardsley, and Ryouma Nagare. Also the Gunbuster characters are listed with given name last, for some reason. Aside from that it includes every playable unit, including hidden units.
Also the reason I skipped the co-pilots in SRWJ for the Dancouga and Combattler V is because in SRWJ they can't split into their individual combining robots. In SRWFF they can, so every pilot gets stats.
I suppose I'll still have to dig up a good list for the @lpha games, but this will solidly link most of the big mecha shows (mobile suit gundam, gundam wing, Eva, Gunbuster) to the web.
Next I'm going to find some reputable lists for the compact games so I can get Escaflowne into the web.
Also: the list currently has both Akira Fudo/Devilman and Devilman. It's also still being really weird with that wrestling game. _________________

Jaffe: It links through Kouji Kabuto and Ryouma Nagare from SRWJ & Legend of Dynamic and a few SRWJ pilots. From here on out there will always be enough mecha anime pilots on the list to link any SRW or similar crossover game.
I think we're going to end up linking to Kamen Rider and Ultraman through Gaia Saver, since, despite being SD, the game does show that Amuro is the pilot of the Gundam in that game. I thought there was going to be a link to the Great Battle games through Fighter Roar from OGG, but it seems like the OGG and GB versions of Fighter Roar are different (In GB Roar was experimented on and became the robot, in OGG the robot is still separate).
Sleazy: I wish I knew. I never figured out how to get past the Harenchi Gakuen level. I just booted it up and got into a fight with Miki who looks like she has enough sprites to be playable, so it is possible. The two non-robot characters on the title screen, Kekko Kamen and Susano, are represented in Legend of Dynamic. _________________

Oh man, never mind Gaia Saver, Hero Senki: Project Olympus is an even better match. It links to Kamen Rider and Ultraman through both Gundam and OG characters.
Amuro Ray
Kamille Bidan
Char Aznable
Haman Karn
Judau Ashta
Elpeo Puru
Seabrook Arno
Takeshi Hongo/Kamen Rider
Hayato Ichimonji/Kamen Rider 2
Shiro Kazami/Kamen Rider V3

Adden F Final and Hero Senki. I'm just going to call the Kamen Riders and Ultramen by their super hero identity and ignore their civilian identities. It's not like we have Clark Kent/Superman on the list. _________________

In most of them, yes, but there's half a dozen playable characters in .hack//Versus.
Actually, another formatting Q: would it be called .hack//Versus, the name of the game mode, or .hack//Beyond The World, the name of the movie it's contained on. _________________
