This. I've only listened to one podcast since IC went kooky as it just slips my mind otherwise. A standard page where I can go and see that hey, a new podcast is up and I just have to click here would be rather helpful. _________________ http://www.audioatrocities.com/games/castlevania-sotn/clip1.mp3 |

It's not something that's ever really happened during any of the conversations I've been in on it either. I think SB people tend to be long winded so everybody just ends up being respectful toward that and let everyone finish their thoughts. |
Mostly there are big gaps between people talking that get taken out because we're all waiting to see if the person is really done or not. There are still instances of people talking over each other, of course, that's inevitable. Made worse sometimes by Ventrilo's weird spiky lag. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

voices occasionally overlapping is to be expected, but outright interruption when someone is in the middle of a thought is what really bugs me
kept noticing that happening to leigh alexander on one of the recent ICPCs _________________

Yeah, sorry. I wouldn't call the SB podcast unbearable but it's often hard to listen to 2+ hours of unstructured, unscripted conversation, even from you fellows.
By contrast, the IC format initially seems harsh and limited in the 6 min rule (specially in the first episodes) but it helps keep a brisk pace and the duration manageable at 1hr + presentations/lightning round etc. That's why I end up listening to every IC episode while I have a large backlog of SB ones. _________________ Guayaba 2600 |

| My only wish is for the IC Podcast to be sometimes done in the same room, as it would really help with the people talking over each other's (which gives a kind of aggressivity to the podcast that it needs not to have) |

Yeah.... But now that they're used to doing it from home, I feel like it would be tough to convince the gang to meet in one place.

When was the last time John Madden was on a Madden cover?
I feel like it has it's own brand identity at this point, it probably won't be long before people know of Madden who don't know it was the name of a coach. _________________

| Just listened to the newest episode. I thought the sincerity about dickwolfgate was really cool, and it was interesting to hear it carry into the discussion of Inafune. Maybe the gang was in a rare mood that day, or starting with such a loaded question brought it out of them, but it was a neat change of pace. |

Frank is outspoken regarding last week's episode being our best yet. Listen to this week's as CheapyD of Cheap Ass Gamer has no idea what to make of us! _________________

Yeah. I linked a friend of mine to that amazing episode of the Penny Arcade show where they fumble through the spectrum of human sexuality, and she mentioned the whole dickwolf redux. I linked her to last week's podcast and told her to listen to minutes 8-23 if she wanted to hear some sane discussion of the topic. I mean, of course there are many right-headed blog posts out there, written by human beings with life experience, but it was actually really cathartic for me to hear three people discuss the issue with the right amount of gravity in their voices.
Y'know: this isn't something I've ever talked to anyone about in real life. I definitely feel lucky that SB provides a community space where we can talk about a topic as sensitive and (somehow) controversial as that, but it's something else entirely to hear the sincerity in someone's voice, especially when they hit every relevant point. I'm glad that Tim pointed out that the source of most of the "Well, I wasn't offended!" comments is a lack of life experience. 'Cause: yeah: I definitely think that's the case.

the only thing i outright disliked was the notion that just because you don't live in NYC or California Metro you are an uncultured mule who doesn't understand "culture". i actually got mad when hearing that.
i grew up in california. there's enough gated communities and wide empty swaths of "middle" california that would breed the same kind of ignorance. _________________

| Yeah, worthwhile point. Aren't Tim and Brandon midwestern? When they were talking about "the kind of guys who would make that sort of rape joke," I think I was picturing basically the same people they were picturing: my slightly nerdy high school friends who stayed in their home town and never matured. I mean, that's basically how the PA guys read to me, and it isn't too far from the truth! |

jaffe! i figured out a way for you to have a soundboard and play any sound you want in the google hangout. it involves a $20 USB soundcard purchase and only a moderate amount of convolution!
because that doorbell is some limp crap, man

I tuned in after not having listened for a while and it took me like 45 minutes to realize that it wasn't just someone not answering their door. |

Gorblax, you should pick questions next week that are just slightly boring enough that Tim will try to alter them all into new questions and then mentally keep track of how many he converts and score yourself afterwards. _________________

ok here's the idea:
google hangout only accepts a single sound device for input
windows lets you listen to a mic through your soundcard playback (sometimes called "stereo mix"), combining the two. so anything you'd normally hear through your headphones gets mixed with your mic channel.
you could then set the hangout input to your soundcard playback instead of your mic, except that the other peeps in the hangout would hear themselves through your input.
thankfully the hangout also lets you choose which device to playback the hangout sounds from!
so you can assign a second soundcard to hangout listening duty and plug your headphones into it, leaving your stereo mix to pass only your own voice and any music or sounds from itunes or whatever.
i like this soundcard:
http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-UCA222-U-Control-Ultra-Low-Downloadable/dp/B0023BYDHK
because it works on pc and mac instantly without any drivers, has rca inputs and outputs, and has low latency (it's like 2ms if i recall)
though oops, looks like it's 30 bux not 20!
DOWNSIDES TO THIS METHOD:
you cant hear the sounds you're feeding to the hangout :(
a music program with the ability to output to two cards simultaneously would fix this. i don't know of any though!
ALTERNATE METHOD:
there's a program called Virtual Audio Cable that can simply combine your mic channel with the output from your music player (provided your music player can change its default sound device, like foobar or mediamonkey) and let you listen simultaneously
it also costs $30 and looks to have a user-unfriendly interface. _________________ henk henk |

SECOND ALTERNATIVE:
Jaffe does his best hideous squawk
THIRD ALTERNATIVE:
Jaffe puts a speaker up to his microphone
FOURTH ALTERNATIVE:
Jaffe mutes the Hangout when playing the sound
I hadn't yet realized that the doorbell was the new timer sound. I figured Tim had a regular rotation of people playing games on his couch. |

Oh, almost forgot:
During the Improv Zone from episode 59, all I could think of was this, which is probably exactly the movie that would have been created:

I already kind of do this... sometimes I will write only the first half of a good question, in order to conserve time and to allow the panel to extrapolate on their own ;) _________________

Yes.
I was also confused the first episode they used it.
Seriously, is there no better sound than that as an end buzzer? Did too many people complain about the ziggurat-scream? _________________ Guayaba 2600 |

FIFTH ALTERNATIVE:
gorblax becomes the google hangout dev-team's intern in exchange for agreeing to use his real name on youtube. gets lost on google campus before he can suggest the custom-soundboard feature
i bet people dissed the zig scream because jaffe played it from a screechy ipod touch speaker into a lo-fi headset mic (THIRD ALTERNATIVE)
or maybe just because it was missing the percussive hits that sandwich it in the game -- it kind of reverberates on too long without them
the ziggurat gong by itself would be a pretty good time-up sound _________________ henk henk
