I've heard that several Gamestops are selling MGS4 LE in store for $69.99 YMMV. |

Siren: Blood Curse is coming out on July 24th on the North American and European PSN stores. It was released on the Japanese PSN on Saturday, but I think only the first half of the game is open for play right now; the whole thing should be available by the 24th.
What's weird is that the game isn't being released on Blu-Ray in the US/Canada, it's only available through the PSN download (probably to save on disc/case production costs?). If you want to get the game on a Blu-Ray disc with English subtitles I recommend the Asian version at this point. I don't know if Europe's getting a Blu-Ray release as well. |

| Any word on how it turned out and what the US pricing is? I never got to play the original games, though I've been interested. I didn't find the demo long enough to give a good feel as to what it's like, though I sort of liked the very last part where you get the gun and a whole bunch of Shibito start running at you. They looked pretty good. |

here's an ultra-positive review of the first quarter, there's no way i won't be picking up that at least. it's £4.99 per 3 chapters (out of 12) so i guess $10 in the states? _________________

Man that review doesn't really have much information in it. Basically just says "well it's just like the first Siren except it's F U N", which... isn't really telling one way or the other.
Still frothin', though. _________________

yeah but to be honest that's all i really wanted to hear, and the demo pretty much confirmed that anyway.

The demo gave me grave cause for concern because:
a) no sightjacking (I now realize the full game will have it... but no idea how I will enjoy it in split screen.)
b) LOL LETS SHOOT A LOT OF ZOMBIES AND RUN AWAY
c) the characters were kind of dumb and annoying.
d) just too much like RE4 in general.
But there really wasn't enough actual game to corroborate my fears one way or the other. But that review does not tell me more than the demo did, really. At least in terms of what I wanted to know. _________________

Happy E3 season, everyone.
I suppose the Fallout 3 videos I see at RPS via GT have been mentioned already? I have a lot of catching up to do itt.
I am writing this post to ask a question. Does anyone know when we can expect the revamped Witcher release on the PC? I've been looking forward to that and can't find any recent info about a date. |

well i have to disagree with points c) and d) based on what i know about the game (which is no more than you of course, i just feel more optimistic). the characters weren't exactly redefining videogame narrative but seriously man compared to the original it's a quantum leap forward, at least i could stand to hear their voices. and too much like RE4? i really don't know about that, apart from the camera angle (obviously) - RE4 was unashamedly an action game, and i don't think this fits the bill at all. the graphical style, the movement of the characters, the lack of weapons...it might have learnt a lot from RE4, but i don't think the end product is going to turn out much like it. in any case, i'd like the combat to be slightly more prominent, as it was a completely unworkable option most of the time in the original - not in a tense way, just in a frustrating way.
the splitscreen sightjacking thing is an interesting one, i can see it potentially dropping tension a little but it does offer scope for different tactics i guess.
i wish i'd played forbidden siren 2, really, i think it'd give that review a little more context. _________________

Tension is what Siren is all about, though. I don't think the game will be much like RE4 at all, but the very little that it is like RE4 bothers me. I liked the idea of having to very carefully cherish each bullet. The demo basically just dumps tons of ammo on you and says "go nuts!" at the end. I'm worried about there being more of that kind of stuff. Which would be a shame. _________________

Yeah, maybe the 90-bullet limit thing only applies to the demo. The archive screen makes it look like there's going to be 50 weapons!! |

Probably the most important actual new game at E3 |

Will be mighty keen to discover what quantity of God Handism makes it into the final deal (not supposing I'm alone here...), though I'm rather hoping there'll be less in the way of technique-menu fiddling to get on with.
Put in mind of Shadow of Rome, also (AERIAL CRUELTY TO ANIMALS etc.) |

Seems pretty pointless since Dan and Sakura are Capcom USA's favorite characters. They will obviously be in. Ibuki will be in for the SF3 apologists disappointed they wont have Dudley. And the only Super SF character anyone gives a shit about is Cammy. I reckon 4 of those will make it to the home version and the rest will be DLC or the next upgrade. _________________

Edit: This is a lousy top post. Um, Play This Thing has nice content today as usual, including Emily Short's review of the IF community's constant darling, Slouching Towards Bedlam. I remember maybe like half a year ago when one of the two authors of that game died (Star); the other (Dan) wrote a very nice memorial on raif that included quaint descriptions of the time they spent planning the game. It gave me this really nice image of these two people in a coffeeshop planning an ambitious and important IF title.
That was my attempt at videogame news? I seem to spend a lot of time reading vg news, but most of it leaves me cold.

This doesn't even make sense. I don't even use Ibuki in SF3. In fact, I don't even jive with her playstyle (though Makoto <3).
Nobody can be an adequate sub for a class act like Dudley.
Even Q would be a better character since he was released in "unfinished" form in 3rd Strike. _________________

Well, rumor is that Dead Rising 2 is being made, except it's by some 2K Games internal studio. Which would probably suck if true. _________________
