It's got to be clear enough that being MGS is what really makes the prospect of an MGO interesting. I mean, yeah, American players turned it into M4-headshot-mania: The Game, but like elvis said just a little bit above me here, they were sort of hijacking the game in turning it into that, not just letting the game arise in its own form. And what I think is interesting on top of that: my impression is that most of the American, M4-crazy players nevertheless understood that they weren't playing, say, Call of Duty and even chose to play MGO, instead of Call of Duty, largely because of that, because it was different, because it wasn't "supposed" to be a typical online shooter game. I suppose my point being, I think the problem of American players wasn't that they wanted MGO to be something other than it was; I think their problem was that they wanted it to be pretty much what it was, but they just didn't/couldn't figure out how to engage it as such, so every time, without fail, they'd play the game in that one way they could: runnin'-'n-gunnin'. And their really annoying seriousness about it all wasn't simply a passioned insistence on making sure the game was M4 Adventures, but a whole other gaming-cultural issue altogether (our general American preference for kinds of atomistic individualism, our social obsession with using games--not just video games--as a way to prove ourselves against others including teammates, etc.).
I don't think even American developers would boil MGO down to something all about headshots. I think American developers would be very self-conscious about being faithful to the MGS identity. If anything, they'd just bring more rigor into the system design that might make an MGO that isn't just quirky, but highly functional in its quirkiness.
Or American players really are just terrible souls and American developers are the devils on their shoulders, and that's that. I dunno. |

An open world MGS sounds really fun. I imagine it will be like Deadly Premonition, except with all the survival horror elements replaced with stealth espionage action. _________________ 3DS Friendcode: 2337-3480-4823

I would like it if there was a 'talk to self' button on the controller. I want to know what kinds of horrible movies Big Boss likes! _________________

Didn't MGS3 have a character that did this when you talked to them on the codec? _________________ 3DS Friendcode: 2337-3480-4823

But her taste was pretty good.
That game also established that Big Boss doesn't watch movies ): |

He sure promised to watch a lot of 'em, though!
That Big Boss never followed through on those promises is surely why Para-Medic became so bitter as a Patriot. |

If there is codec conversations for stuff, I kind of want Big Boss to be lecturing the other guy at least half the time. "Looks like you've got a knife, Snake!" "Are you seriously going to tell me about my knife? How old are you, Kid?" "Uh... twenty four?" "I have been shanking bitches longer than you have been alive. I know how a knife works. You can use the square button to..." _________________

Bumping this thread because I just found out the song from the Ground Zeroes trailer is the ending song of MGS4

So this whole Phantom Pain reveal is the easily the most glorious game announcement I've ever seen.
Just watching the internet explode when they aren't force-fed the usual PR cycle is amazing entertainment. The people figuring out all of the Kojima/MGS clues is kinda neat, and I'll be interested to see how this ties into Ground Zeroes (are they two separate parts that comprise the whole MGS5, a la Virtuous Mission/Snake Eater and Tanker/Big Shell?), but I'm even more amused by the people who don't accept it until they get the official beat-you-over-the-head announcement and resist the massive evidence that no, this really isn't some unknown Swedish developer who just happens to have enough money to take AAA game ad time on the ridiculous VGA show.
It's enough to have made me fire up MGS2 HD today, to relive the previous best fan baiting ever pulled off in gaming. I'm not even the hugest Metal Gear fan, but this is first rate entertainment and I cannot wait to see more. |

This is straight up Nathaniel Hornblower esque nonsense and I love every single second of it.
Not sure if I believe the peanut gallery saying that Joakim is actually being rendered in Fox Engine (Hence why they are only using head shots between Geoff and Joakim) but that would be like the most Kojima thing he ever pulled off. _________________

Is there a video where it plays backwards?
I'm assuming it's the MGS theme music? _________________

They need to take it to its logical conclusion. Put hints out, but roll with it right till its on shelves as The Phantom Pain and then about halfway through the game pull the late title card as MGS V. It would be the greatest thing ever accomplished in videogamery. _________________

looks rendered to me
best "evidence" is that this is all being done in an interview with geoff keighley, who is far and away the game journalist most likely to go along with a PR stunt. there's no other reason to talk to him. |

that guy is definitely computer-animated, and this is definitely metal gear solid 5, and they are definitely going to announce it as such at GDC.
personally i wish they'd been a little bit more obscure about it. they sort of blew it with these last couple of things.
in conclusion, i will be hecka upset if the official title is not "metal gear 5olid"
edit: did anyone else notice that they call that guy "head CEO" twice -- and it even says "head CEO" under his name?
that's a kojima word-grouping if i ever heard one.
let us be speculating about what "CEO" stands for!

| there's no way Joakim is rednered in that video. Its an actual guy with tape on his face. They probably didn't do full body shots because A. this way is weirder B. they don't have to worry about "selling" a full body shot/costume. |

This makes sense to me. I was caught by that too. "Well that's somewhat redundant."
I'm torn though. The "head CEO" actually makes a bit more sense in English as a tautology/pun than I'm used to Kojima's Englishisms making. It's subtle enough that it comes off as possibly just bad titling.
Also there's the purported language barrier of .se to .eng, which could also explain awkwardness.
