How come at the end of every game he's all "I'm not Snake anymore, call me... BIG BOSS" and then in the next game he's Snake again. At least he's not wearing the bandanna anymore.

I'm excited about running from dogs.

Bullets don't really tumble end over end through the air like they did in that cutscene with The Boss. Tumbling refers to what they do when hitting the body.

I keep forgetting about David Hayter. I'm sick of that guy's voice. I want the option to hear the Toshiro Mifune sounding guy.

Hayter's been doing a caricature of his MGS1 delivery for a decade now. I really wish he'd knock it off.

It looked to me in the video like Big Boss was looking more like the MGS4 Epilogue Big Boss than just Snake with an eye patch, it'd be neat if they went with Solidus' or 4's Big Boss voice actor or a similar sounding guy instead. Of course they won't, they can't even stop calling him Snake.

yeah, but even that is sort of fucked up -- the game gives you the option, but you're totally hamstrung if you use any control set other than MGS4-style boring third-person-shooter run and gun style. I like handhelds just fine; this seems fairly compromised. metal gear, to me, has never been about anything other than maximalism.

I used mgs3 controls. I didn't have a problem with it except for having to twist my hand up into a mangled claw to shoot and move at the same time, though I hardly needed to outside the multiplayer boss fights. I got used to it quick and it was all worth it though just to have shooting back on the square button where it belonged.

The worst part of Metal Gear Online was the Americans. So they're designing the next Metal Gear Online.

Actually that's the headquarters of his mercenary band. They live on a big shell-esque base out on the ocean. At the end of Peace Walker he does give a speech to The Troops about how the world's going to be coming after them and they'll become terrorists if necessary etc. though. That and when he says "I AM A GUN" were my favorite parts.

Did you guys not see the giant flaming whales and horses how is Psycho Mantis showing up during a halucinatory coma hell dream a stretch. Even if Big Boss never knew him, who even knows how those mind powers work.

Really glad it's not Hayter anymore too.

though I am sure this will be rationalized because Ishmael is actually a psychic projection of snake whose mind is being influenced by the teenage psycho mantis to blah blah blah

Because The Metal Gear Solid V Announcement Gameplay Video thing being twenty minutes of a guy slowly pulling himself across the floor with one hand is hilarious.

I always wondered if Raiden's wig wearing came from his child soldier days in liberia.

Its entirely possible its still david hayter, just not doing the snake voice. I mean that's an actual character voice that he hams up and whatnot. His actual speaking voice is quite different.

Here's where he talks.

Doesn't sound like Hayter, also Hayter was upset on twitter about not being in MGS5.

Right at the beginning of that trailer up there Big Boss asks about a woman and Kiefer responds and then asks who Kiefer is and he answers. It's the new "gameplay" one, it wasn't in any of the other videos before.

Oh okay, I haven't seen the gameplay one yet.

Does the VA sound like the same guy who did old Big Boss (Big Old Boss?) in MGS4?

He just says a couple words, it's hard to tell. It could be that guy doing a "I just woke up from a 9 year coma" voice, or anybody. Hell it almost does sound like Kiefer doing both voices. Maybe they just brought him in to voice up that whole bit just to show off a single scene in a game that's still a ways off.

Toptube wrote:
all fanboyism aside, it has to be a ruse.

I don't see what the point would be though. Haha you thought Snake was going to be someone else, but it's Hayter again, surprise! And I really don't seem them bringing anymore clones into story at this point either. Not in the pre-Metal Gear 1 era. I don't know, maybe he's Hayter in the Ground Zero prologue then Richard Doyle in the post-coma Phantom Pain and Hayter just doesn't know yet cause it's just a small part in a still unfinished game.

I think it's shrapnel sticking out of Big Boss' head

Big Boss becomes a badguy because of shrapnel in his head that damages his frontal lobe and his ability to tell right from wrong. After Snake kills him he's reconstituted from Solidus' and Liquid's parts minus the shrapnel so he's a nice guy again in the graveyard at the end. Except he doesn't seem to have shrapnel in his head on the operating table with Miller. Horns it is then.

No, it must be everyone just can't handle the mind blowing wisdom nedge offers by calling a videogame dumb. It couldn't possibly be his personality as an insufferable asshole that makes people sick of his bullshit time and time again.

David Hayter wrote his sucide note on twitter today saying he wanted to assure fans that he didn't abandon them, this was all Kojima's doing, time to end the meme etc.

http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1rjhhf9

It's weird not even the voice actor distinguishes Big Boss from Solid Snake, everyone always just says "Snake." If all I knew about the series was from kotaku articles or something I wouldn't even know they were two different guys.

Kiefer was voicing the bandaged dude. Big Boss only says like two words and it's hard to hear who it might be.

Well, it is. The levels are too short and too easy. I was pretty forgiving of it because it was metal gear co-op and it wasn't designed for consoles to begin with though. Also unlike 4 it felt like it was actually about something and made for a reason other than just to try and conclude the story from 2.

I honestly can't not hear Kiefer when I hear Big Boss speak in this trailer, though. I know it's just a few lines, but Kiefer's voice is nearly as distinct as Hayter's Snake-voice, and damn if the whispered "What happened to the woman?" doesn't sound exactly like a wounded/exhausted Jack Bauer to my ears.

And the bandaged guy is almost certainly just a post coma tutorial guide hallucination thing so yeah you're probably right. Doubt they'd waste The Kief on just that.

Ishmael = Solidus

Hence why Snake / Ishmael are both Kiefer Sutherland

Solidus would of been about 10 years old in 1984 though. Also if they're changing it to where the clones were made while Big Boss was in his phantom pain coma then that would retcon the Snakes to all be even younger, by two years at least.

Yeah I knew he aged faster I guess Kiefer Sutherland at age 10 seems a little extreme though. Like at that rate he'd be 90 by the time of mgs2. I figured it was just slightly faster than solid and liquid.

is there anywhere where i can read about what splinter cell conviction was supposed to be because that game was such an awful sequel

Doesn't the phone call at the end just say Solid was actually the one with the recessive traits and was therefore supposed to be inferior according to the game's wonky understanding of genetics.

But I think if the game doesn't say anything it's more because after snake rides off into the sunset saying he's not going to let his genes, family etc. determine who he is and what he does he's right back to destroying metal gears and performing assassinations for the government in 2 and 4.

No John Doe you are the demons

Big Boss smuggling diamonds inside women to give to a bunch of black kids before he guns them all down can this game get any better

Really though isn't this what everyone always wanted from a prequel story about Big Boss. To stop dicking around where we're basically still playing as Solid Snake only in the sixties/seventies and get to the real deal Big Boss and Outer Heaven stuff. War orphans and child soldiers and Africa have been a part of Big Boss' background since Metal Gear 1 & 2. Anyway I thought sawing off the african president's head in the beginning of revengeance was worse than anything shown in this trailer.

Nah dude someone check the timeline it was the 80s

MGS2 plant chapter is 2009. He'd be like 1 year old in MGSV at most.

Ocelot wasn't even waterboarding anyone. He just dumped a bucket of water on the guy, who looked like Emmerich. Not that waterboarding is something Ocelot wouldn't do. They definitely weren't up to anything nice in that room. And Kaz overseeing it cause he's a crazed maniac now. Maybe that's his new recruitment process.
