WARNING: Peace Walker spoilers in that footage.
The game appears to be a Peace Walker sequel.
I'm so hype. (even if that video was just like a movie or whatever...)
Beyond the face value of it being open world - there's the implication that Kojima is using the Peace Walker games as an opportunity to be more experimental with MGS - which bodes well IMO. |

Which is exactly what sounds great about it.
If it were just going to be another cinematic linear console title like MGS4 I would just be excited for the possibility of a new MGO. Instead it looks like there might actually be a good game here. I might be being OVERLY optimistic, especially in the face of that lengthy cutscene we just saw... but w/e I'm happy to be excited about something. |

This did seem particularly wacky in the footage.. If it seems to wacky in the game I'll probably just avoid it if at all possible/convenient. Though at the same time you had helicopters flying around all the time in Peace Walker... picking you up, dropping you off, picking up every soldier you fulton, refugees, dropping you supplies, bringing in air strikes.. etc. It just didn't seem as wacky in the context of peacewalker as it does in such a realistic console title where dudes are like feet away not noticing you hopping in a helicopter. |

| Wonder if we'll watch Big Boss decline it ~MaDdNeSs~ or if they'll retcon him being a villain into (even more of) a misunderstanding (than they already have). |

Grinding?? You don't have to grind in Peace Walker.. Unless you consider replaying missions for the sake of optionally preforming better to view all possible optional content as grinding? Maybe if you're desperate to S rank the entire game? (which I am guilty of) Maybe if you feel a need for robot parts that aren't necessary to do anything in the game?
Also, I personally enjoy the micromanagement elements of peacewalker. I think managing my R&D development is much more fun than picking up weapons on some linear battlefield. I think everything about Peace Walker is more fun and has more personality than MGS4. I love the mission based gameplay.. I love "screens".. idk these are personal and totally subjective things but I'll take a Peace Walker over a MGS4 any day. It was totally made with love, while MGS 4 was made with despair and battle weary don't-want-to's. |

Man, I've really got to say that I made absolutely no effort to go get dudes or grind in any way when I played through Peace Walker. I just progressed through the game naturally and S ranked pretty much every mission as I went.. only returning to missions I wasn't prepared to S rank the first time around. I didn't grind for anything until trying to clear the "post game" type optional content. Just used stealth loadout and upgraded my gear as I went along naturally.. used the best blowy uppy stuff I had when it came boss time and had no trouble getting through everything solo. I just really think you've got an unfair view of the game.
Anyways, I'm quite confused about exactly what's going on storywise in that preview video.. I can't really make sense of it so I'm not going to bother to guess. Whatever I guess I'm sure will turn out wrong and the burned face dude will be "gas snake" or something and we'll all go "welp!" and shrug. I hope Kaz and Big Boss are still on hangin' out terms in Ground Zeroes. I hope I can be Kaz in MGO3 that will be packaged with Ground Zeroes (please).
I'm with you on the movement fluidity, Adi. I remember when I recently played through MGS4 and then back through PW and returning to the PW movement after MGS4 movement was pretty jarring. |

I dunno, there was always something plausible about most of MGS's tech (if not actually real, like a surprising amount of MGS3's gadgetry). AI might be longer, but is possible in principle if not in practice.
But there's literally nothing that does what we expect from holograms, nor does physics even seem to allow for them. |

Even then - the reality is that you don't need to grind out dudes unless you want to get a bunch of S rank dudes... and you don't need S rank dudes to complete... well the entirety of the content of the game..
Really though okay I feel bad we're just beating a dead horse on still talking about this (but that didn't stop me from trying to get a little bit of a last word in here..) |

I think this is...pretty gross, actually. |
Which part? All of it or? Because I don't really care about the mobile integration one way or the other so long as it doesn't detract from the game in any way. It's more the management minigame and actually being able to visit your motherbase-thing this time that I'm excited about. |

Yeah, I totally agree with you there. We'll have to see how it develops. For some reason I imagine them just diminishing the idea into "okay well snake has an iphone in the game then" and there's no real life mobile integration and then they're like "See we did it!!!" but that's all probably just wishful thinking.
The real danger isn't them finding ways to encourage the mobile use, though, it's them finding ways to limit your access to the game in a way that playing into their shitty idea becomes necessary to enjoy the full experience. |

Oh man - if they ruin MGO I'm going to be so depressed.
I mean - hopefully they'll see how serious MGO fans are about MGO? But like everything else they'll probably develop for an audience that didn't like MGO because that audience is larger. |

There's no way that the new MGO could be that bad. The main two things I hope that they will retain from MGO is how powerless you feel when being choked (total dread) and the compartmentalized level design. |
Yeah - good point. I do choose to forget some of those things. Still - I'd rather have all that horrible bullshit than end up with some garbage tacked on multiplayer feature that's no better than any other war shooter out there... which is about what I expect from outsourcing to a newly established American team. |

when has impossible ever stopped kojima before |
How is it impossible? I'm not intimately familiar with mantis' character but I know that this appears to be a child or teen, which by the timeline makes it pretty possible to be psychotic mantis. Peace walker begins in 74, ends ??? (Just can't check at the moment) so we have beginning of peace walker to end of ground zeroes (unless phantom pain is first) +9 years for a coma and then that comes out to be somewhere in the mod 80s? Shadow Moses event is in 2004. Seems possible for there to be a child psycho mantis to me. In fact I thnk we'll be seeing the whole shadow Moses cast. Additionally, solidus killed raiden's parents around 1980 so the "two phantoms" thing is starting to add up to me. I think we'll be seeing solidus and there will be some like "hey they're twins" stuff. Diamond dogs / peace walker red robot hand reveal was awesome.
I think this will tie the plot up to metal gear originals, and then idk maybe they'll reboot them? My coworker who is obsessed with mgs games wasn't even aware of the metal gear plot, and experienced the games without the context that big boss is the original villain to solid snake. |

I would assume that "V" is a reference to big boss being referred to as Vic boss, Vic voss, at the end if peacewalker.
Man diamond dogs horned big boss is just the coolest damned thing.
I want to believe that if there are two big bosses in this game, that one would be solidus instea of a secret millionth clone that wedonttalkabout, but I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they just threw that in.
I agree with you, adilegian, about peacewalker's plot. When playing through it I was like "wait didn't we already cover all this in 3?" And feeling frustrated by then acting like big boss is confronting these feelings for the first time. That aside, I liked the Cold War deterrence stuff, the mother base stuff, all of the characters, the aesthetic/world/mecha, and most of all the gameplay sooooo!
Also it was nice context for master miller's character. |

Quickposting here to note that this might also in some way connect with the V-is-for-victory/peace handsign ambiguity in PW. They made kind of a big deal out of that. |

Solidus would of been about 10 years old in 1984 though. Also if they're changing it to where the clones were made while Big Boss was in his phantom pain coma then that would retcon the Snakes to all be even younger, by two years at least. |
Solidus is cloned to age rapidly enough to be a replacement "big boss", appearing to be the same age as well as being a "perfect clone". Sounds wacky, but yeah. Also the detail about him murdering raiden's parents around that time - so he would likely not be a child despite his age. |

Pretty sure it is. The sunglasses are the same, and it looks like the guy's missing his right arm. And as long as it is Kaz, the pan-over-to-him reveal fits the dramatic thrust of that portion of the trailer. |
Totally not kaz's face. Also there was some promo material that said "and introducing new characters" and beret guy was the guy shown. |

I haven't personally seen it - hence my use of "promotional material" because I'm not entirely sure what I'm talking about (but just take the vague non-knowledge as fact)
