Based on the radar specialist I just extracted, something like this is alleged to be available. _________________ JSNLV is frequently and intentionally wrong. |

Yeah, I've been playing this with Julie watching, and she has little patience for my halfhearted attempts at nonlethal. I can usually keep it up until I've had to restart from a checkpoint three times, at which point I start stabbing people.
Reflex mode feels like cheating. I'd been trying to sneak around, choke fools out, drag people out of the way, etc., but it's actually easier when soldiers keep wandering over to see why everybody's lying down. It spares me the trouble of sneaking up on them by allowing me to slow-mo shoot them in the face. A loading screen tip mentioned R&R allows you to increase the amount of time you get for reflex mode, but I don't notice much difference between when I first enter the field vs when I've been out all day.
I like that I can't just carry every piece of equipment Kojima's team could think of with me at all times, but the restrictions feel weird. I just want to carry a pistol for bullets and a pistol for tranqs! Is that so much to ask? _________________ JSNLV is frequently and intentionally wrong. |

There's something creepy about Mother Base. For all its vast intricacy, it feels really empty; the soldiers, with their dual obsession with Big Boss and Big Boss's Puppy, do not help the situation at all. Late one night I was standing on one of the platforms to work on personnel assignments, and I heard a sudden yell and a splash. I sprinted around the area to see what happened, but I couldn't find any further acknowledgment of the apparent man overboard situation. And then there's the point where our guest moves into her cage on the Medical platform: why the blasting music? Is this supposed to be an interrogation aid? Is this how ALL of my Fulton'd crew were converted to the cause, because if so, I now feel a lot less confident in their loyalty. _________________ JSNLV is frequently and intentionally wrong. |

Metal Gear Solid 2 : Metal Gear Solid 3 :: Silent Hill 3 : Silent Hill 4
That is to say, the former games are all deliberately derivative sequels. They are novel in their approach to being sequels, but they also cram in a lot of conceptual and narrative baggage the weighs things down unnecessarily. Still, the mechanical formula has never been as elegant or effective.
The latter games step into a new direction, an unfamiliar setting, and an unusual structure. They work as well as they do in large part for how self-contained they are; the references exist, but these are their own games. Also, they both chop a big piece of outdoor environment into a series of rectangular chunks with obvious and artificial divisions.
I have more respect for the latter games, but more fondness for the former. _________________ JSNLV is frequently and intentionally wrong. |
