I'm expecting high things from this game. It might just be what MGS4 was supposed to be. So the timeline is after Big Boss was severely burned, right? And player character is Snake rather than Big Boss? I haven't finished Peace Walker so I'm kind of out of the loop here.

Edit: Er, wait. Eyepatch, so no, I am dumb.

Characters like Lord Humongous, Wez, Master Blaster, and Aunty Entity could easily be MGS bosses. The E3 trailer for Mad Max makes it look kind of like the "edginess" has been cranked up to Mountain Dew levels and the original style of the series has been completely neglected. I bet Kojima would do a better job.

I don't think Code Talker is technically white, although I could be wrong. There is some unfortunate objectification of women in there, like Quiet or whatever not wearing any sort of shirt or gear on her upper body. Not as bad as a lot of things but still noticeable. The kid was some sort of drug/diamond/otherValuableThing mule and so they were cutting him open to get to it, that was pretty horrifying though. Nothing about the black child soldier training scene made it seem inherently offensive, but obviously there's a huge amount of room for that to be fucked up. It's not like he had a bone sticking out of his nose and it showed him beating the kids and shouting in broken english or something, he was just sort of pointing out gently "hey, the magazine is not a foregrip." Almost sympathetic, but again, the context of the game will tell. The choking out the kid part was weird and bereft of context horrifying. Snake gave a diamond to a child, and then the other children showed him diamonds from the looks of it, I have no idea what the significance of that is, but the iconography there is really risky, certainly approaching a white man's burden type of thinking.

I think cutting to him firing the machine gun was just a bad choice and it wasn't meant to be chronological. Also, Big Boss has to make his transition to Bad Guy™ in this game, so it would make sense for him to do bad guy things. The medium is generally not fit for exploring these subjects so the effect tends to be horribly exploitative in general, and if that isn't at least the case a little bit here I will eat every single hat in the entire world, but overall I am going to bite my tongue until the game proper comes out.

Fuck, you mean I just paid $30 for an intro sequence? That sucks.

I haven't really enjoyed this game so far. I don't understand the stealth, it plays a lot like BlOPS, the collectibles make little sense except as collectibles, the controls are weird and convoluted, and it doesn't feel like a metal gear game. I dunno. I don't think it's bad or anything, but it feels like a clean break from previous installments and I have no idea how to approach it. Even Metal Gear Rising was more intuitive and felt more like a metal gear game to me.

Adi, you're trotting out a lot of tired cliches without doing much real thought or engaging with the discussion. Instead of just giving broad descriptions of trends, practices, and attitudes in the gaming industry or general creative work, perhaps you could do a better job tying them to the discussion?

A fan theory says that Quiet is Chico due to extremely stupid, transphobic reasoning. Based on Rei's takedown of how stupid Kojima is I personally think this theory is plausible... ;_;

The best handgun/silencer combination is a nagant revolver connected to an oilcan via adapter. Total cost of less than $200, or at least it would be if Nagants hadn't dried up. Here's a silenced nagant with a legit filter. An oil filter would have similar sound characteristics.
