He's prone to putting a lot of himself into his writing, and those parts he puts are often pretty irrelevant/insufferable/self-indulgent/gross.
Maybe he'll manage something like journalistic objectivity and keep himself out of things and it will be a decent survey of an interesting subject instead his condescending exoticism bonner leaping from the page like a dolphin on a pocky high

The sequel looks pretty different from what I've seen.
Just having more than a couple levels that don't have to devolve into Left 4 Cops is a pretty big change of direction.
