I always thought it was reserved for lesser known doujin fighters that were easily obtained for free. Thus poverty. I now see it used (probably incorrectly to incite anger) to refer to almost any fighter not made by Capcom, Namco or any other big name company.
Considering MKV was one of the original poverty games, no not really. Most doujin stuff isn't actually free.
Things like the Sailor Moon fighter would be a good example, or any of the other crap the EC crew went in on, since that's where the term originated anyway. Too poor for real games.
The meaning sort of changed in our Post SF4 World as the meaning and appropriateness of scale got completely blown out of proportion by its sudden popularity.
I didn't say they were actually free, just easily obtained for free.
The first time I ever heard the term was at a fightman gathering and one guy (Brandino of melty blood (un)fame) noticed me and one guy play SWR and excitedly said "Is the poverty corner?". That's how I made my connection at least. _________________
i doubt there's an established poverty canon, but i've always heard it used to refer to games that never had a mainstream popular scene and/or are generally considered bad games. 90s licensed games, random Neo-Geo fighters from the days where everyone was making fighting games, some doujin stuff, and dumb outdated games which never got caught on. Basically, anything where you'd look at the game and wonder "Why the heck are you playing THAT?", and "THAT" can be anything from Karnov's Revenge to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters to SNK vs. Capcom or Capcom Fighting Jam or whatever. _________________ -pat m.

Wouldn't be surprised if they threw in Cars and Lisa Lisa as well (Heck, I'd consider Lisa Lisa a given considering how she inspired a certain Street Fighter character)
In other fighting news you can use
- Buncha Fighting games gone super cheap on XBLA Deal Of The Week including VF5 Final Showdown for the frankly barginous price of 400 points. NO EXCUSES.
- Capcom will be announcing two new games in two weeks at PAX East. Speculation begins now on if at least one of them is fighting game related. _________________
How many more characters can they reveal in Jojo's ASR? Isn't the game coming out relatively soon??
Eh at this point I expect the cast to have at least 5 character per series minus Jojolion, 2-3 characters per month seems to be the trend anyway?
Cars is pretty much a given, others characters that are too important to not appear are Diavolo, Bucciarati, Pucci, 1st Dio, maybe Diego Brando, Valentine.
There are rumours about voice actors of Anasui, Cioccolata.
Re: Capcom plans, well, for what it's worth 2013 is Capcom's 30th Anniversary. They're putting "Capcom 30th" branding on Capcom Arcade Cabinet (much like on products released for the anniversaries of SF, MM, etc), and I can't quite imagine that'll be the only thing they're releasing this year to commemorate/take advantage of that. With things being very quiet from the Marvel team since Ultimate's release in late 2011, the timing seems just about right for the rumored (speculated) All-Capcom crossover fighter to be announced at PAX, and released during the holiday season. Partially wishful thinking, sure, but it seems at least plausible, IMO. It would give the game a shorter hype/marketing lead-in than MvC3 or SFxT had, I'm pretty sure, but that wouldn't be so bad. SF4 was announced in October 2007 and released in July the following year, so I'd like to think it's not impossible, anyway.
I've taken to Puzzle Fighter lately but it seems none of my friends are willing to join me :( _________________ http://portuguesefoodbank.blogspot.ca/

Oh, Koihime Musou or whatever that's called, I played some of that at Round 1 before. It uses prerendered 3d as its animation and it's smooth but still not very well animated. Also I didn't really like the gameplay.

my first evo i played ricky ortiz first round in cvs2, and got bodied, which was hilarious bc i played him like every week prior in local weeklies. then i beat two scrubs d lost a close one to floe (who was not that good at the time).
my second evo (and my first cvs2 evo, and the last cvs2 evo), i started off by playing john choi.
Congratulations Netherrealm. It's a Hurien, or a Urigo. Or something. I don't know. A Super Armored Tyrant Chariot is pretty sexy though! _________________
guile's weakness is that he has like 3 anti-airs and they're all a bit situational. the answer is to use RC sonic boom as the anti air for everything. _________________ -pat m.

This is a great game and when my friends got really into it I never got the chance to join them so my skills aren't very good. If you happen to have it on PS3 I'd love to play it sometime. Have you played Airu de Puzzle which came out for the PSP last year? It's Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo 2 but Monster Hunter themed. I haven't played it extensively but it looked like tried and true Puzzle Fighter but with more characters. I guess there was a super move you could use at any time too though.
How's the Darkstalkers port? I haven't gotten around to buying Guilty Gear and I might hold off on it for Darkstalkers since I've heard GG's netcode was bad.

I'd be down for that but I gots no ps3 or 360
i wonder if some emulation/ggpo would be prudent. does anyone here know?
also: is there a way to turn off RC in this new CvS2 port? if not, that's pretty gosh darn :/:/:/:/ _________________ http://portuguesefoodbank.blogspot.ca/

oh, and apparently Darkstalkers Resurrection has 2f input lag when compared to arcade
Pretty sure this is inherent to the PS3/360's OS overhead; ALL games have a couple frames more input delay compared to a PS2 or the like.

So next character at $600K. Any takers?
There's no way in Hell they're hitting $600K, as much as I'd like them to. Maybe they can find a publisher to pay for Skullgirls #Reload after Big Band's finished. _________________ http://www.mdgeist.com/
Two Injustice reveals two days in a row. I think there might be a game arriving soon.
Cool interpretation of Raven and the Ermac style stuff looks cool. Like how they are showing how crazy you can get by adding background interactions into your combos as well. _________________

Puzzle Fighter should be playable on GGPO.
And I think the CVS2 port is just a straight PS2->PS3 port, in which case there should be no way to turn off roll cancels. At least, that's not a feature that existed in any other CVS2 port. _________________ -pat m.

i'd really really like it to happen, and my being hella skeptical of success levels has been a lucky charm before, so...
