New SF4 "Entry" announced at PAX East. Unknown what form its going to take but apparently it's not just a balance patch. News soon according to the CapCops. _________________

Wonder if they'll add any more characters.
They said they were going to announce the results of the character popularity poll this weekend. Maybe that has something to do with it. |

I've been picking up Super 4 at afterbars late at night, and I feel like the game has *too many* characters. It makes me sad to say it, but I much prefer playing World Warriors at the actual bar, sticky buttons and all. _________________ interdimensional |

vanilla sf4 was the best version of SF4, IMO. after playing the other versions, the first version, is the greatest version. it's so fast because everyone does so much damage. plus it has "indestructible" and all the hits sound like gunshots. the only real bullshit thing was akuma's roundhouse loop.
the best way to fix sf4 is to go learn KoF. _________________

Considering someone managed to port Rolento from PC SFxT to PC SF4 around 90% intact, I wouldn't be suprised if they threw the SFxT new challengers (Rolento, Hugo, Poison, Elena) in a pack with 2-4 of the poll winners and went to town on it. Ample excuse for a Vita/Wii-U port as well.
Also, with Capcom and Disney doing a Ducktales remaster and clearly having no beef, the question remains...

The problem with KoF is that it isn't Street Fighter. Outside of that it's a pretty fantastic game. _________________ interdimensional |

It would be interesting to see how vanilla SF4 would be played in 2013. Characters like Seth and Viper were never really that explored so I'm curious just how crazy they might be.
RobotRocker, I'm wondering how far down you would have to go in the poll results before you even find any characters who aren't in SF4 or SFxT. Aside from the top 8 as seen on that t-shirt Capcom gave away at their presentation (Ryu, Ken, Gouki, Chun-Li, Cammy, Sakura, Sagat, Juri), I'm super curious to see what the results look like in general. Also very curious of those results are only for the English Capcom-Unity poll or if it includes the results of the Japanese poll as well. I really hope they post some more detailed stats for both individual polls as I imagine fans would vote rather differently in different regions. |

Well they could probably just take the most popular vote by region and put those characters in. One for the US and Europe and one for Japan. Add in the SFxT characters and you have a pack
Alternatively...

I hope that SSF4T has a new hud, menus, character portraits/select screen, stages and soundtrack like previous capcom fightman reiterations used to get. The slightest aesthetic change would excite me at this point. _________________

the long HD combos are boring if you've seen them before, but you'll only see that in tourney play on streams. easiest thing to do with them is do a couple normals into a special into neomax. in 2 seconds you did 800 dmg. there's no point to learning the really long 1000+ damage ones outside of that environment or for combo videos.
also to another god, what i mean is that the problems with sf4 are addressed and given options in KoF. but you're right. if ryu isn't in the game the masses (and fgc) tend to shun it. _________________

There's plenty of doujins if you want that.
I really do wonder if it's possible to make a strong footsies fighter that has broad appeal in this day and age, where flashy sequences and uselessly needless execution seem to be of more importance overall. _________________ twit |

picking the less familiar character just because it's less familiar is just as lazy as picking ryu because you remembered playing sf2 on snes with your cousin in 1993 that one time
that's a list of pretty great characters. i like urien. there are just as many reasons to not like urien. juri is on the list because yandere/foot fetish. is that a better or worse reason to like a character than liking sagat because [reason]
"ryu is so boring!!!! fuck stop spammin fireballs!!!" is actually probably the most boring thing i can think of |

If Capcom is serious about taking fan input for balance changes, I think this will be the worst Street Fighter in years.
I can't imagine they actually will follow through with that though. |

ryu is the best fighting game character ever.
also, capcom is probably serious about taking fan input to see what characters/matchups need balance changes, but probably not implementing specific changes. that's pretty standard. _________________ -pat m.

he has one move that is excellent at controlling horizontal space, another that is excellent at controlling vertical space, and a whole bunch of normals that complement those two moves much better than you would ever think they would. he is so well-designed that you can tweak any of his moves ever so slightly in one direction or another and create a new character that plays very, very differently. and, most awesomely, he's really only effective if you have solid street fighter fundamentals. playing against one of the world's legendary ryu players is a totally humbling experience; it's like you're going up against a legitimate kung fu master, someone who can read your mind.
if you want to be a better fighting game player, play ryu. i can't think of another fighting game character for whom that is so true. _________________ -pat m.

There's nothing in any of your sentences that's specific to "Ryu" other than your description of his normals.

Injustice has a bunch of missions where you play as Red Son Superman as pre-order bonuses. They licensed the Soviet National Anthem for the Superman fights in that mode.
NRS are committed to fighting game hilarity and I salute them.
Also Ares and Killer Frost got leaked thanks to twitch and Drunk Artuo Sanchez. So the starting roster has been locked in at least. _________________

okay, i'll elaborate.
ryu's fireball and dp complement each other in a way that is designed to reward accurately reading your opponent above all else. you're supposed to be controlling space and momentum with fireballs at exactly the right range that they can jump over your fireball and hit you, so you need to read your opponent to know when it's safe to throw fireballs and when they're going to jump so you can DP. ryu's ideal range to beat you is basically the same as your ideal range to beat him, so when you're getting beaten by a good ryu player, you're basically getting read like an open book, because each response from ryu is basically all-in on reading that you're going to do XYZ.
this is somewhat unique among the shotos. ken is designed to engage up close; his dragon punch is more useful as an anti-poke, not just an anti-air, and his fireballs and normals are designed to help him close the gap. akuma is designed to set up unfair engagements, so he's got the air fireball to set those up, the teleport to get away, and a lower life meter to ensure that you're probably going to lose a dogfight. sagat is designed to keep you at range, so he has really powerful keepaway tools but less mobility. each of those has a gameplan where their comfort zone doesn't really overlap with your comfort zone. ryu isn't really like that at all.
perhaps the biggest testament to ryu's design is that he can hang against Guile, who, by design, really should have Ryu's number. Guile is the anti-Ryu; he doesn't have to gamble or take risks, he engages inside Ryu's sweet spot, he typically has plenty of time to anti-air jumpins, and he should win in-close fireball trades with the back RH or the toward FP. and yet, this matchup works. it works really, really well.
that's why ryu makes you a better fighting game player. most other characters rely on your ability to determine your range, own it, and when you lose it, regain it. ryu relies on your ability to read your opponent above all else. that is, i think, the essence of fighting games, and the hardest skill to obtain. i've played against a lot of killers in a lot of different fighting games, and none of them have been more humbling -- or retirement-inducing -- than losing to a great ryu player. _________________ -pat m.
