go to a major! you have the luxury of only having to travel one hour! find a person to house you?

majors are pretty fun but i've only been to seasons beatings 2010 and 2012, so.

i guess it would be different if you were by yourself, though.

also f. champ's tier list haha

(best, rudest top post)

You guys make the character and then push for another contract?

Make the character(s), pray that a publisher will pick up our other game pitches in the mean time or help fund Skullgirls 2/more characters.

Man, yeah. I'd love to go to a major but the closest one is like six or seven hours away. Do it!

I drove 7 hours to go to Winter Brawl in Philly. I wish I only had to drive an hour to a major. The only way I was able to accomplish that feat was by actually running majors.

They're fun. Enter a game you are best at, play in team tournaments, explore glitches and combos. Things make a lot more sense when I see a person performing them outside of youtube and can ask about the little details. Playing fighters online is terrible.

Also bodying Rommance in KoF teams. That drive was worth it to just make his Yuri eat ex-air grab and dropkicks. So free to Raiden B)

playing the Big Names is a pretty big draw of going to a major, too. i guess it depends how your brackets play out, but the last seasons beatings i got to play Ricky O (got destroyed) flocker (managed to sort of hold my own, still lost) and honzo gonzo (won 3-2, wow). if anything it helps with nerves and whatnot.

on that note, is anyone going to be at UFGT this may? probably my next thing if money is good.

Oh hey. I'm actually moving to LA next month, sooo.. I guess I'll check out some stuff there and actually be kinda close to some tournaments now.
Going to finally go to evo too since it's only 4-5 hours away or whatever.

I should probably register for that sooner than later

my first evo i played ricky ortiz first round in cvs2, and got bodied, which was hilarious bc i played him like every week prior in local weeklies. then i beat two scrubs d lost a close one to floe (who was not that good at the time).

second evo they did round-robin in qualifying pools, and i had valle, apoc, and dan from japan in my pool.

other dubious brushes with fighting game infamy include being one lousy hit away from beating daigo in casuals at SFIV when vanilla first came out, spending probably like $30 losing to mago around the same time, beating j-wong and mike ross (they round-swapped) at the SFxT demo setup at E3 two years ago, beating ricky in the first norcal sfiv tournament ever (after which he said the game was garbage, because, heck, look at the top 3), and playing with ultradavid when he was at berkeley (where he was kind of standoffish and didn't really talk to people and really only played 3s). there's probably some more in there somewhere.

I'll probably be there for EVO so I'd be down for hanging out in the SB room for some games later when we're done with SG stuff. Let's play some poverty games!

I'll bring Groove on Fight

Very disappointed they didn't get Maria Canals for Hawkgirl, but hey at least she's in the game. Also this stage is really cool.

Guys I am now Travelling for Majors. Not for Evo yet, but within Australia I'll be flying down to Melbourne for a couple of the majors that they have going on. I play VF only.
VF is so god like.

I want to thank this thread for being a non-asshole introduction to fighting games. Without this thread I would never have gone to my first casual meet, or my first major.

Injustice looks like a lot of dumb fun. I would so Day One that thing if only I had a PS360.

Let me know if you want a couch to crash, or want to get a drink or something while you're down.

When are they; I'd like to watch some live VF.

BAM is May 18 and 19, Shadowloo Showdown is sometime in mid to late July.

Thanks for the offer BHill, I really appreciate it. A drink would be excellent, but in terms of somewhere to crash I'll most likely be crashing with a group of guys, as we will all be coming down together.

OzHadou Nationals was my first major and it was a very hype and exciting atmosphere; if you come and watch you might catch the bug!

I think the Tekken girl is actually the first one based on a franchise instead of a company or system?

what's the exact definition of a poverty fighter? are some games considered at an even lower level than that?

I always thought it was reserved for lesser known doujin fighters that were easily obtained for free. Thus poverty. I now see it used (probably incorrectly to incite anger) to refer to almost any fighter not made by Capcom, Namco or any other big name company.

Considering MKV was one of the original poverty games, no not really. Most doujin stuff isn't actually free.

Things like the Sailor Moon fighter would be a good example, or any of the other crap the EC crew went in on, since that's where the term originated anyway. Too poor for real games.

The meaning sort of changed in our Post SF4 World as the meaning and appropriateness of scale got completely blown out of proportion by its sudden popularity.
