I just want to repeat that a cheap screen protector is pretty mandatory for this thing. |
Or a soft case, which is also cheap, or both. |

I bought an 8GB one years ago. It's more than enough to have several games on hand at a time. _________________

i think it's been over a year since i used my psp as anything other than a comically huge mp3 player. maybe i should get ys 7 sometime.
i think the psp games i played most were parodius collection and mana khemia. but my fondest memories are of using it to play judgement silversword and ps1 dodonpachi in tate mode. _________________

I handle this by having two large Memory Sticks. I use one for RPGs, one for "other". |

Well, yeah. Stuff got cycled in and out, same as if I'd played them off UMDs, except I could carry more at once, load times were far faster and the battery drained less. _________________

Just try not to buy memory off dealsextreme or something... Well the fake "legit" memory from there MIGHT be okay but the MS I bought from them self destructed pretty unceremoniously. About a month after.
The pandora battery from them is pretty nice though. |

I'm waiting for an 8 GB Memory Stick to show up at a second-hand shop for 10 euro bucks. So far I have only seen a few 2 GB and 4 GB ones. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

So I got one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/PhotoFast-CR-5400-MicroSD-Adapter-Dual/dp/B001I0T92Q
Loaded up with two 16 GB MicroSD and it works great so far. Can't notice any difference in load times at all and write speeds even seem to be slightly faster then with the Sony stick. The adapter is a fake though according to this (can't say I expected much else considering how cheap I got it) but I've yet to notice any problems. There is a somewhat longer startup time though for the system but I'm pretty sure it's just the size of the combined memory itself causing that.
So anyway, even if you only plan to use one of the slots there I'm pretty sure it'll be a much more cost effective then trying to find Sony's old legacy stuff. |

My PSP froze on me after returning from standby mode today. It's the first time this has happened to me. I was playing Half-Minute Hero. I was just messing around, so I didn't lose any progress, but I'll think twice in the future before using standby mode again. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

Where can you find the icons and backgrounds used for official eboots of PSOne games? All I can find are custom ones. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

I suggest you take a look at a certain post I made in a certain sticky in a certain axe not too long ago if you wish to play PSOne games that have PSN releases. I'm not entirely sure why you'd want to use the official iconsets though considering how they all look. If you still for some reason actually want the assests that make up these then you're just going to have extract them yourself from the official EBOOT. There is a small tool that can do this but I am unable to give you the name at the moment (again though, why would you want to?).
If you want to make some custom icons it's easy to just crop some official artwork (suggest you find them on Talbain's Ettugamer gallery) or steal some from a official PSP game. Their icons (as well as animated icons and music that plays when selecting it that is a pain in the ass to make yourself) can be acquired by simply opening up the iso file with 7zip or something and it should be right in the root. Pretty sure there's also an app that will automatically copy them from whatever UMD you got inserted. |

I didn't expect them to look that way. I thought they looked similar to PSP games's assets. I'm definitely going to make my own, now. Thanks for the heads-up! _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

Fix all of your PSP problems with money
2x16GB MicroSD + MSProDuo adapter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003NTQDUG/ ($30 now, I got it for $22 a bit over a month ago, works fine, slow writes though)
Screen protector: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000MED9FM ($2, buy 2 for when you mess up the first one)
Also, BenRen, here are the sizes of the various images you want:
icon - 60x68 (which seems really strange, but it's what PSX2PSP likes)
bg - 480x272
info - 310x164 _________________

I would like to talk about Sony's PlayStation Portable game case design for a moment. In particular, how it's manual-unfriendly.
- The manual is kept in place by only one holder. Due to this, the manual is always being slightly folded in two. Game cases for other systems always have two holders or a different setup.
- There are two pieces of plastic at the top and at the bottom of the right side. They were probably meant to keep the manual in place while the case is closed, but in practice they damage the paper. Depending on the transport, the cases are likely shaken a lot, which only makes it worse as the plastic pieces make dents.
I'm talking about this because a couple days ago I opened my shrink-wrapped copy of Phantasy Star Portable 2, and I noticed yesterday evening that the top of the manual was badly damaged. How was this possible? It's brand new! It was then that I noticed those pieces of plastic I talked about, which matched the damage done to the manual. It also explains the similar damage I noticed on the manual of Yggdra Union, which I bought from someone who, as a lover or JRPGs, I assume took good care of his collection.
Needless to say, this sucks. :( _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

Chiming in to say that my PSP has received extra life for its ability to play PSone games that I've got off PSN on the go. While waiting for my wife to get out of surgery today, I played ~2.5 hours of Persona 2. It was great, and it made me the object of suspicion among the 70+ crowd who shared the room and smelled strongly of cigarettes. _________________

This particular hack of fftactics is satisfying to play and the best part is that i can play it on the go! It even includes all that multiplayer only things available in single player. the bestest part being that the slowdown (in the original PSP release) is also patched out. I actually prefer the redone script vs the original PSX version.
it's what i've wanted in the original game. a rebalancing of enemies and player skills while still being fun and challenging without being too ridiculous.

One of the bullet points in that FFHacktics thing says "SLOWDOWN FIXED"
Does that actually mean this person fixed the game's slowdown problems? I could never bring myself to play the PSP version because of it, but if it's fixed now, I will need to take a look at this. _________________

A lot of RPGs on the handheld imply "be distracted while you grind." FFTactics's slowdown actually encouraged that behavior with the drawback that you really couldn't be distracted.
So I am interested in this as well! _________________

Dunno about the remakes. I'm going to grab them eventually, and I might get P3P. It's just $10 on PSN. I'm surprised by that. _________________

| the slowdown fix came out a few months ago and is available separately (with more details on the development/how to use it in the relevant Hacktics thread). The forum is worth browsing if you're a fan of FFT, as there are a rather surprisingly number of "finished" hacks. I wonder if any have any cool implementations of the unused stuff (not counting the sound novels)... |

There are remakes of Persona and Persona 2: Innocent Sin. There's also a remake of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, but it's Japan-only, most likely due to the assholes at Index (Atlus's parent company).
As for their quality, you'll have to ask Persona-sama as I haven't played through them yet. But I can tell you that they are different games than Persona 3 and Persona 4, being more like old-school dungeon crawlers. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

Please provide your sources for the awful sales. The only nugget of information we got from Atlus USA was that fear of low sales was not the reason. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

I don't know if I'd want Persona 2 retranslated. It might make Ulala sound like the human being who we want to think we aren't (but probably are anyway).

I made myself an EBOOT of R-Type Delta, complete with a relevant icon and background! To get official artwork I used the Wayback Machine on Irem's official site, which used to have a R-Type Delta section and a collection of wallpaper.
The icon only has to be 60x68 if you want to use the default template that places it in a small PSOne-branded box. Select "Default" in the options and you can use the regular icon size, which is 144x80.
It runs great. My only criticism is that it takes a while for POPS to load. I wonder if it's because the EBOOT is compressed. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

Yep! Some of the jokes about her are predictable, but she's an interesting imagining of the alternate "neutral alignment" character type that Persona 2 takes from the SMT series.

Agonized this over myself for a bit, actually. My laptop was processing video for another project so I couldn't screencap and didn't want to take too much time on it. _________________

Yeah. I've got the game on PSN, and when I go to work I transfer the game save to my PSP. When I'm at home on the weekends, I play it on the TV. When I'm at work during 15 minute breaks or lunch, a time period during which little learning is possible, I play it on my PSP. _________________

I made myself another EBOOT, this time of Capcom Generations 2 - The Chronicles of Arthur.
I wish I could have used a better-looking background, but most official artwork is in a portrait/flyer orientation, which doesn't lend itself well to the PSP's widescreen orientation. As for the icon, it's a cropped and resized screenshot of the title screen. I'm going to take multiple screenshots later to extract the logo from it by comparing what didn't change between them (the background scrolls).
By the way, I found how to turn off the white reflection on the icon. In the options, choose the first (blank) entry for Icon0.
So far, the games play as they should, though they seem to skip the stages overview when you begin a new game. In the case of Ghosts 'n' Goblins, it was skipped after showing it for a split second, but it kept playing the music. I also have to say that the sprites are so small that it's as if they were rescaled from bigger versions, but that's probably not the case. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

I picked up one of those 2x micro SD adaptors. Put it in my PSP and formatted it. It recognizes the card fine in the PSP (1 card with a 30gb total), but when I connect my PSP to my computer it only shows half of the total memory (just one of the cards, 15gb) as a writeable disk. What happens when I want to copy more than 15 GB of data? Is the other card sitting in the adaptor just useless?
EDIT: Nevermind. When I copied my data over from my old stick to the new one in my PSP, the PSP stopped being able to read it. Maybe the whole thing is useless. : ( _________________
