Poker Night 2 is giving me my Swedish Murder Machine Fix till Venture Bros. Returns MAY 18TH and has Patrick Warburton reciting Dune. Five Dollars Worth there.
Otherwise, harder AI than the original who love bluffing and going all-in on their hole cards but the general poker game still is pretty good. Writing is still snappy. Bruce Campbell impersonator is not half bad. Brisco County Jr. references are appreciated. And Telltale hates Claptrap as much as the rest of us do. Hell, nearly all of his special elimination outros involve him getting beat up somehow. Not a bad way to spend 5 bucks. _________________

I know one of you out there picked up Sunset Overdrive.
I'm having a pretty good time with this; the visual style is beautiful and crisp, and traversal is the most fun I've had in an open world game since Crackdown (didn't play Saint's Row IV).
Otherwise, the game is fairly standard fetch quests in an open-world, but man, grinding and wall running are so goddamn enjoyable; you can get to any point on the map without ever touching the ground. I completely appreciate that you can drop in for a side mission or a time trial even in the middle of a story mission, and get back right into it after you're done. Boss fights aren't too shabby, either.
Been goofing around in Freedom Wars, too. I don't really like Monster Hunter, but this one has fast mobility and kind of mashy combat, which is all I ask for. The setting is hilarious, too; trying to sleep while reclining got me 10 years added to my sentence. |
It's me. I'm that guy.
The first Spawner fight involved an inordinate amount of cussing on my behalf. I'm not sure what it is with Microsoft but they never advertised how tough and hectic the game is. They never tell you that if you hang around on the upper levels and try and grind around, Scabs and OD will start following you including the "Boss" OD like the Spawner and Herker. I damn near shat myself when after thinking I was clever and taking pot shots at a Herker on the ground while grinding the roof of a high rise. The Herker straight up leaped on top of the building and promptly tore my face off. It keeps you on your toes and thinking better than a lot of other games. I'm only up to meeting Troop Bushido at the minute but so far it's dang good. Anyone here picking up the boner for the MCC should really try get the SO bundle.
You aren't missing too much on SR IV though. I thought it was really disappointing and boring. They overpower you so much it's comical, but it works to the detriment of the game when you can't mess with the playground as much as Saints Row 2. _________________

I bought AC Unity. I open the floor to deserved mockery.
I don't think it's anywhere near as awful as AC3. The Hitman inspired missions where you can do silent assassin take-downs are well done and it feels good but . Just those glitches and bugs and framerate can be nasty and Ubi being Ubi.
But then I had the same with Watch Doggies. Went in with lowered expectations and enjoyed my time with it.
Anyway. Here's my contribution to the litany of glitch videos everyone has.

Is there a point Dragons Dogma gets good? I got up to Gran Soren. Went for the first quest on the Wyrm hunt at around L15 and started to head north now bandits are coming out of the goddamn walls. I buffed my character and pawn and hired two more and still get my shit wrecked. Any pointers because it's heading to this-shit-is-wackville very quickly.
Oh and a quest bugged out and put an NPC on a roof. Tried to shoot them with an arrow to get them to move. Got arrested.
No, actually fuck you videogame. _________________

| Dragon's Dogma 'gets good' because the combat is fun, so if you're not enjoying that a whole bunch you can probably call it. |
I do like the combat. It's just the fact I'm at a high enough level were I can take down Wolves and Goblins and even small bandit/sorcerer groups with ease but getting swarmed by bandits just outside of Gran Soren wrecks my party. It's such a weird discrepancy to be finding the combat fine and then there's about 20 arrows sticking out of your ass because your pawns agro'd some bandits on the side of the road and the other 30 in the area heard about it and came running.
I'm on the cusp of liking it a lot. Just that it's giving mixed signals. Do I need to go grind before doing any of the Wyrm Hunt quests or what? _________________
