What would be the most atrocious remake possible under these conditions? which old game is the farthest from the current design dogmas, so that if it were remade today it would end up being the complete opposite of the original? My first thought was Messiah, because that was so weird and so huge at the same time, back in 2000. But it wasn't that weird and different from modern games in terms of, for example, the level design. I think. I think System Shock 2, Ultima Online – oh man, The Incredible Machine – all of those would do close to a design 180° if remade today... Magic Carpet! That wouldn't happen anymore in the big leagues, like it used to. Daggerfall. That already happened, kind of, with Skyrim.
But yeah... Tomb Raider and Thief are prime examples of this
EDIT: Ah, now I got it! Myst, the most mainstream of the mainstream when it came out, would be the complete opposite of its former self if it came out as a mainstream title now. |
