Just wanted to repeat because it's true: they are not dialing down the sexuality, they are reimagining the sexuality for an audience with a different sense of fashion.
I think a big problem with the spike is that games that make you watch dumbass death animations every time you die are annoying and they just as easily could have kept the camera behind your back and let you die where you die. Fuck the politics, it's lousy game design. I'm not sure what to make of all the rape stuff, but whatever people are offended by could have been fixed by replacing obviously bad design with decent design without changing the attitude of the game at all.

I did not, at any point, say that we needed to suck out any inkling of sexuality from Lara Croft's character. I didn't say that it wasn't "fine." I said that her redesign is sexy. In fact I think it is sexier than the goofy unrealistic cartoonish design that she used to be, and I'd wager that most game-playing hetero male young adults would agree with me. That's all it takes for this point to be right and it is weird that you are focusing on bra straps and cleavage and Jade instead of whether or not the redesign fits modern "sexy" ideals. The reason she looks like a "normal" girl is because normal girls now dress like that to look sexy, because that's what people think is sexy now.

I think hinting at homosexuality in Gears of War is funny not because homosexuality is funny but because it's really super obvious but many of the people who play don't see it and are just enjoying being big macho dude bros.
