Xbox Twitter's been busting some reporting as well. Used games requiring an instillation fee is bullshit FYI. So crossed wires or some publishers might do it *cough*EA*splutterdie*

So in other words it's a complete mystery several months after rumours were "debunked", still

wait like the 360 was largely this generation? the no region lock thing is a big problem for a lot of the smaller japanese devs.

Why?

look, the whole DRM thing aside, I think the Xbone is a reasonably good system and it will probably be worth getting at some point

but seriously, it seems like everyday since Monday, someone from MS has said something stupid, frustrating and/or infuriating. they could very well win this generation in the long run, but for now, they're too busy not delivering a single, unified message. the PR department is asleep at the wheel and they'll probably stumble out of the gates for the first few months. they just need to get everyone on a leash (especially the Xbox support twitter, good god), tell them to shut up and deliver a single, on-target message about the what and how and why, because as it stands now, they're just poisoning the waters. say what you will about the PS4 and it's lineup and the shitty stuff Sony has done in the past, but at least they've been saying the same thing since their reveal in February. people like getting one answer and they like getting the right answer and MS has been failing badly at this.

Sony's been already doing shitty stuff behind the scenes. HID is gone for a new proprietary tech which means fight sticks are dead (Mad Catz and Hori said not compatible) and racing wheels are also mostly dead (Logitech say no, Fanatec say they aren't sure. Though Evolution studios say they have a solution for DriveClub so it remains to be seen) and the first PS Plus game is a "Prologue" version of DriveClub where you only get a certain amount of the game and have to pay for the rest. In other words, paying for a glorified demo. This is the sort of stuff that would have been headline news in 2006 and at least would have got some UK Resistance SONY LIE WATCH posts going but MS have been so catastrophic that Sony's getting away with significantly crappy moves against the consumer because Don Mattrick just said something idiotic again and the news wants to talk about that instead.

It's relatively minor in comparison to MS' brave new world bullshit, and it's not entirely unlike every other generational shift of peripherals ever, despite the general openness of the PS3 on that front.

And thanks for reminding us about how fucking awful UKR became before its ghastly death.

Like the PSN outage. I have a PS3. I was able to play my games just fine during that outage 'cause I had them downloaded. I don't even think there ARE any PSN games that require you to be logged in to play that aren't MMOs.

Actually there are a few non-MMO PSN titles that have DRM locking (probably no more than 5 or 6), with the most apparent being Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 which was released a week or two before the outage. Other games are all Capcom as well.

Microsoft's extremely limited in what it can do as regards advertising metadata (to the point where they probably can't even do it in Europe) and wiretap laws mean they can't actually watch you (And the legal system is practically begging for a test case since Robbins Vs Lower Merion School District settled and the Federal case has been stalled for a few years now).

Microsoft doesn't follow the law. Did you forget?

And just like that

The hardware is doing bad enough that major investors want a split. Which I hope they get because really, fuck Sony. They spat in gamers faces for years and now because they throw some nerd on stage and yell "No used games" they expect forgiveness. I really don't fucking care about PS4 and I'm sick of being told "BUT PS4". Fuck Sony. Cunts.

Christ, you've been a complete embarrassment about all of this, for the endless years since Sony made shit with the start of the PS3. I'm not going that SB has been above console favouritism, but you absolutely cannot deny the continued fuckups that MS have made over this machine, instead of throwing total wobblers over rumours of the always-on DRM (that was a thing! And you said fucking nothing), or toxic indie relations/rules (which you're only talking about now because MS have again done an about face), and you've given no impression over the machine's confusing dedication to television of all things. The minute they say you don't need Xbox Live to get Netflix, you'll be screaming from the hills about how great they are and using overly vulgar language to illustrate your ingrained hatred of a company who also make televisions, yet didn't use a console reveal to tell everyone how great it is to watch interactive fantasy eggball on.

I have no idea what to say about the conflict in calling Sony "cunts" (charming) combined with "don't care about the PS4". Why are Sony the bad people? What is it that MS did that was so much nicer in comparison, when we look at their less than altruistic practices in the PC hemisphere or anti-competitive efforts that have lasted more than 20 years? Would MS be better ploughing through with anti-consumer practices?
