well, we didn't get to clear, got stuck on the set of relics/gates at the end. I feel like a bad raid leader and that i waisted everybody's time. i think i just need more practice. so be glad you missed it, maybe?
hopefully miscreant_pie does not hate me. I know you guys can breeze through it so I felt kinda bad.
(but i'm really bummed because i wanted to finish it too… it's so hard to get people together… :[ )
also psn messaging is really frustrating to use yeah
man i feel so dissatisfied _________________

yeah sorry yesterday was one of those 'came home from work and immediately fell asleep' days
having weird sleeping habits actually gets in the way of playing with y'all sometimes!
what was the problem specifically?
i imagine that interest in this will pick up again next week |

rye, don't worry about it. we had a new guy on the raid and he was only lvl 27 (which as i recall brings some negatives in the final fight) and we only had about an hour and a half to run it. These things happen, and we can finish it out soon. You did a pretty good job explaining things, but that final boss fight is rough if everyone isn't leveled up and on their game, which i think was a problem last night. Again, no big thing.
I felt bad because I was a little rusty from taking a week off to play Diablo, so there's that too. |

hey rye, i can confirm that there are no hard feelings from pie
also yeah, sonford and i were just talking about that part. i feel like it's been some combo of he and i and analogos pretty much handling the portal worlds ourselves, and i know that part can be confusing as hell when nobody's very practiced at going in and popping out. i've heard of people sending like four dudes into one portal at a time, then everyone coming out and switching to the other portal - but then at some point that makes oracles start appearing outside, i think. i dunno
anyway yeah there's a pretty good chance i'm gonna try to get a raid going tonight from the beginning, if anybody's gonna be around! _________________

uhh whoa, this sounds like a horrible idea:
| Code: |
- Old exotics can be upgraded to the higher defense/attack rating, this can be done through Xur at the cost of an Exotic Shard, Glimmer (7000 as of preview), and the original version of the weapon. This will reset upgrade progress
- Leveling Exotics now requires less experience
- You can only upgrade one Exotic per week, and Xur will have a limited selection of exotics available for upgrade
|
So we can pay 7k glimmer (+7 coins later on) once a week to lose all upgrade progress on a weapon to get a slightly better version of it.
(this is all taken from this preview article)
Also sounds like all the vendors in the tower will get better legendary gear, but you'll only be able to buy faction gear with marks and a special commendation currency which you can only get from leveling up a faction. So... way to destroy all the work I've put into that?
:<
EDIT: Actually as I thought about my experiences with FF14, this is totally in-line with how MMOs work. I'll have to wait and see how it works in practice, so my :< is downgraded to a :| for now. _________________

| Perhaps most importantly, the loot raid drops for Crota’s End have been refined from what we experienced in the Vault of Glass. Specifically, the game will pay closer attention to the drops you’ve already had, as well as how long it’s been since you get a “fun” drop (as opposed to just materials). |
this is an improvement though |

So the crucible/vanguard vendors now sell 33 light sets in place of the old stuff but you need a 'commendation' which you get every rank up
doing the three new story missions unlocks the raid and gives you an arc/solar switchable fusion rifle (with bad perks, but still) |

heads up that if you're <30 and have vg/crucible marks you can buy the 31 arms/legs without a commendation
they've kinda obsoleted the old raid besides it having some nice weapons |

we only had one 29. you might have happened to look when someone was moving armor around?
the 29 didn't seem like a liability whatsoever in the first section, and we didn't finish the second section, so! i think it's well within range if we can figure itout
the first section is hilarious and dope! _________________

I was the 29. I wasn't killing much in the first section (two shots got most enemies about a hair from death, but not dead. #29life). It was a pretty good time. I'm looking forward to doing it again next to week and hopefully find that chest we missed.
also i'm pretty sure the game doesn't want you to be able to revive teammates in the first section, but it totally let us do that, sooo uhhh that's kind of a hilarious bug?? makes the atheon teleporting fix that they did a little more believable as something other than a stop-gap.
I haven't started on the void weapon damage part of torn. I've been dreading it because I'm not great at crucible (fun-fact: I actually deleted the original thorn bounty because this step was so infuriating. It was liberating in a way. After immersing myself in iron banner I got another thorn bounty, and now that I have ten bounty slots I don't mind letting it sit around so much.
First priority is getting my exotic helm to max level so I can be a proud 30. I was thinking of just buying a vanguard helm but the new warlock one is kind of ugly and the bonuses on my exotic helm are rad. I'm kind of sad that I got rid of my old legendary helm because I really liked the way it looked!
I am feeling a little demotivated at the prospect of grinding for commendations (I'm vanguard rank 7, and I'm really hating that I didn't bother leveling up the factions to at least rank 2 each because i was ignoring everything to do with crucible at the time) and also grinding exotics I exchange from zero to max level again.
my thoughts on the game are conflicted still. the raid is still a good time, and I'm still up for atheon hard-mode for double-drops (if you run hard mode without doing normal, you get two pieces of loot after phases with both rolls on the HM loot table), a possible void-primary, and a cool helmet.
but yeah they kind of made VoG irrelevant, which is a puzzling design decision _________________

I picked up some of the 33 Light max armor, which will be a huge help in bumping my character up to 30 in time for raiding. The extra bounties available through the Eris person who showed up in the Tower should help to speed along levelling up the 33 Light gauntlets I picked up. I noticed them just at the end of last night's session.
Destiny's fun to get back into. I guess I'll be checking out the new story content tonight. _________________

My clan team went in with two 31s, three 29s, and one 28. I had to leave early, but I don't think my group ultimately got past the bridge. I was one of the 29s and expressed doubt wrt the likelihood of success, but we gave it a go anyway. I'm definitely going to get up to 30 (ideally 31) before trying it again.
I'm sure I've got the right equipmwnt for at least 30. I have a 36-boosted Exotic, a 33 Legendary, and other equipment besides. I could upgrade some of my 30 max Legendary pre-Dark Below, but I'd rather save the upgrade materials for the Dark Below equipment.
Is there any way to customize the likelihood of certain kinds of missions appearing during patrols? I'd much rather spend time shooting things for relics/kills than driving to a place to look hard at a thing -- or burrow deep into a place that's a pain to extract out of once I've killed Arbitrary Target X.
I don't enjoy those because they exceed the amount of time I'm willing to give to something with such low rewards, and Destiny isn't much of a game without rewards to balance out time investment. It's a lot of fun with others, but on its own it's the elevator music of videogames: inoffensive and bland.
I've taken a couple of weeks off from it, and my overall reactions to its design are more lucid upon re-encountering the game. _________________

not exactly, but you can tell what the mission is going to be based on the symbol that appears when you pull up your ghost. triangle papercraft-looking thing is always shooty, diamond with four points thing is usually shooty. if i get one i don't like i usually pull up the ghost and abandon it and then go to another area to find a shooty one. you can get pretty efficient about it

i'm still a bit short of 31 but my efforts to reach it haven't burned through the new stuff enough to have me weary about it yet. i'm sure there's a wall not too far away from where i am now, but at least this first week into the dlc i've seen some things going in directions i appreciate |

Yeah. I will budget 2.5 hours to the game on weekends, max, apart from raid time. I try to keep perspective on the fact that the whole Do Stuff -> Reward design is the game's main draw, given that the cognitive habits encouraged by this design can be fairly unhealthy. For me, Do Stuff -> Reward is the comfort-food of thought processes, which has its place (such as during depression) just as comfort food does, but it requires assessing what kind of mind I want to build on a daily basis. Destiny doesn't require much discipline to engage, and disciplined challenges interest me more. _________________

I sometimes get the kill-lots mission icons confused with the kill-target mission icons, which, even though they are shoot-things, still requires getting deep into weird grottos. I wouldn't mind getting into those grottos if there were, say, unique items therein like in optional RPG dungeons. I've gotten pretty good about recognizing the relic-drop icons, though.

I went through the story missions pretty quickly, and I appreciate that they're developing the new narrative arc in ways that more resemble bounties than the starting game's series of linear unlocked story missions. The Eyes/Heart/Hands of Crota missions in the Cosmodrome were neat! I'd like to see them experiment more with narrative design as they develop the game world. _________________

i still haven't done the second strike or any of the new crucible stuff, but i guess i more meant that even what i have done hasn't worn out its welcome yet. also maybe everyone's done this already and i was just slow on it, but there's at least one story mission after the first three that you can only get to by following eris' quest bounty line. the way eris' whole deal is structured is definitely more engaging than the disparately presented content pre-dlc, yeah.
edit: oh also unless kill-target is on the other side of the planet there is actually some incentive there as iirc you get more vanguard rep for those and ranking up is a lot more useful now |
