To keep NIER thread pure: a thread about a game!
Ex-Cavia teams up with Access Games to bring you this thing. Two teams that famously bring problematic, Dreamcasty games to modern consoles. I couldn't be more excited! |

god damn i love the art in this series.
i've never really though of the Dragon Dragoon series + Nier/anything Cavia makes as being really "dreamcasty" but now that you've made me aware of that connection, it
does make quite a lot of sense. _________________

| I wouldn't put a lot of stock in that, I was more referring to Deadly Premonition and generalizing Cavia games as similar in graphical quality and mechanical quirks for the sake of brevity. |

well, they also tend to be things that, at large, are regarded as "ahead of their time" in fashion, either in scope or execution of story, or simply offering something radically different from what is expected _________________

I'm really curious about the artbook story that supposedly connects all four games in the series, given that Nier exists as an alternative timeline to Drakengard 2 , and I don't think it's been explicitly stated which game D3 follows from, if either.
I have this weird, nagging sensation that Drakengard 3 is the kind of game that should be the fifth game in the series, even though it's only the fourth. No idea what is up with that.
I wish Nier was on PC. There aren't many games I won't settle for living through vicariously, but it's definitely one of them. |

With our luck it'll follow Nier Ending E, which will officially be the canonical story. Using a plot that never made it into the game sounds exactly like something the series would do. Actually, now that I think about it I hope this game follows the (terrible Grimoire Nier spoiler) alien invasion plot that follows after the events in Nier. |

| Also looking forward to the soundtrack but in my mind nothing can beat D1's noise/orchestral sample chaos. |

Yes. It really is a bizarre soundtrack, and I have been thinking about getting the re-issued soundtrack just because it is so … cavia.
also:
how high are the chances that this will see the (non-japanese) light of day? _________________

It depends I'm sure on whether or not any publisher with a japanese branch is willing to take a risk on it. The fact that it already has a decent enough fanbase might mean it could be grounds for an XSEED release. _________________

i could certainly deal with it being a bit rough-looking but super fluid
just hope the rest of it isn't so brown
the video quality does it no favors, of course _________________

expecting drakengard/DRAG-ON DRAGOON 3 to be anything more than a stinker is probably being too optimistic in the first place _________________

Well, if you compared Nier to AAA-titles back when it came out, it looked less-than-impressive as well.
Much ado about nothing, I say? _________________

Square Enix Announces Drakengard 3 For North America
Square Enix today announced that its Action RPG Drakengard 3 will be coming to the Americas exclusively for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system.
A prequel to the original Drakengard, Drakengard 3 transports players to a medieval world where six goddess-like sisters known as “Intoners” have brought peace to the earth with their power to manipulate magic through song. Harmony is disrupted, however, when the eldest sister, Zero, attempts to murder her younger sisters with the help of her dragon companion, Mikhail. As the story progresses, players find themselves in a battle to unravel the mystery of Zero and learn her true intentions.
Featuring the series’ signature brand of action, Drakengard 3 pits players against hordes of fiends and foes in remorseless hack-and-slash ground combat, and then sends them soaring for pitched aerial battles on the back of Mikhail.
Drakengard 3 will be available for $49.99 next year on the PlayStation 3 system and for digital download on the PlayStation Network and the Square Enix Online Store. Starting today, players can pre-order the game at the Square Enix Online Store. |

so wait, if I'm not mistaken, drakengard was more or less a dynasty warriors a like (with some key differences), but this is just a third person action rpg more akin to nier, right? _________________
