EDIT: BEST NEW FEATURE: CUSTOM TRAINER PR VIDEOS
So this game came out and it's pretty great. It finally feels like a proper evolution of the series, throwing out a lot of the chaff the games have had forever for no reason besides tradition.
Also the 3d is very nice and cute and charming and nice.
Who else has this game? Give me your friend code and I'll friend you up. (NEW FEATURE: YOU DON'T NEED A SEPARATE FRIEND CODE TO FRIEND UP WITH PEOPLE - it just uses the 3ds base friend code! AMAZING!) _________________

I need someone to record a Vine or a YouTube or something of the player walking diagonally, if this is possible. This is very important.

I'm at the eshop screen, trying to decide which version to get.
My friend code's 2036-7055-5804.
Also, because the friend code system is better than the DS one but still dumb, you'll have to add each other as friends. There's no request system, both people have to do the same thing. So, if you want to pokeyman, post your code here or enter it on the wiki but post it here anyway.

Friend code: 1289-8272-6032
I got Y. Not entirely sure why, but I liked its cover art just a tiny bit more. I got mine as a download though, so I'll never see that cover art.
I like how this feels! It's pretty and it works and it feels pretty nice and brisk.
Though B/W was a lot more exciting for not recycling the previous generations of Pokemon until the late game. It's probably for the best they dont' make 150 unique ones each generation, but there is just a tiny bit of "Oh, a Pidgey and a Caterpie" going on with me.
So there's no back compatibility at all this generation?
I started playing in Japanese for language practice, but since you can't change languages midgame and characters in RPGs might tell me things I don't understand, I restarted in English. _________________

Do I need to find the pal pak or something to get my code?
Also, does anyone know when it's possible to breed pokemon in this game? I'd like to breed my pikachus and get a pichu that can learn nasty plot before I get too far. |

I guess it's the same code as the one I used for Animal Crossing, if that's still on the wiki? I may or may not play this more, though? _________________

Me. When it came out I was both too old and too young and considered it silly shit for kids. By the time I became old enough to outgrow that phase it had just been around too long and I never got into it. I've never played one second of a Pokemon game. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

Me. I got pretty bored of the whole thing after Gold / Silver. But I can appreciate from a distance design choices like EVs.
If someone at pokémon HQ ever reads this article, they might just grab me back. |

although Game Freak should seriously get a 3-5 year rest from the franchise so they can pursue other projects completely (with the exception of whatever staff really want to work with whoever picks up the slack). |

Where the fuck are all the gyms, I beat the first one and have been adventuring for hours without another one in sight, and I've been to like 4 towns. This normally wouldn't be a problem except I've been forced to put several of my guys on ice so that they don't become high-leveled enough to become disobedient.
Actually maybe that is kinda rad fuck it gam rulz |

I'm so torn on this game. On the one hand, I love the originals. On the other, I love them so much that I haven't felt the need to touch any of the games after them. On the one hand, I think the new pokemon designs are mostly ugly, and I think that slick deer thing is maybe the worst pokemon I have ever seen. On the other, there's online pokemon trading, which is exactly what the series has needed since forfuckingever.
I have both Blue and Red though. I could just find someone to play that with me. . .
But then, I could also do the same trick that you can do with those games with someone on here to get all the starting pokemon immediately and have a blast. . . (I think? That trick involved playing from the beginning of the game to the first town something like 5 or 6 times.) _________________

| Swimmy: these games have a lot more older pokemon than they do have new ones (there's only 70 new pokemon and there's well over 200-300 returning ones you can catch normally), you encounter a bunch of different pokemons in the first few routes instead of just "rattata and pidgey equivalents", and all the worst conventions of the series and the dragging has been reduced to an awful small minimum. It adds so many cool things and brings back all the best things of the series and none of the boring stuff. I honestly believe it's the pokemon game definitely worth checking out and not skipping. |

Hmm. The fact that the game is really pretty, aside from some of the pokemon designs, is also a selling point for me.
But is there anyone who wants to hang out while I play through the beginning over and over, delivering starting pokemon, until we have enough to give one to each of us? (That trick still works, right?) _________________

This game is some good old fashioned monster capturing fun. I haven't played a game since Diamond/Pearl/Platinum but this is just totally what I feel like playing at thet moment. It doesn't reinvent the wheel but it adds enough new stuff to make it feel fresh, plus it's a really good looking game and I like the European influence in the design of some of the areas.
Seems like this game is going to be a lot longer than the previous games. I'm a little over ten hours in and only just now got the second badge.
edit: also you get a pair of rollerskates and you can grind rails to get to hidden items. 10/10 game of the century. _________________ 3DS Friendcode: 2337-3480-4823

In this game you could potentially do this like 10 minutes into the game since online functionality is just there from the beginning of the game!
Man, one way that Pokemon's simultaneous global release has hit me hard is that I can't tell if it's worth postponing a Pokemon's evolution to learn moves faster or not. Before I'd wait maybe 10+ levels if it meant that it'd learn a super strong move 20 levels ahead, but now I've got no idea. _________________

One nice detail is that every now and then when you go to get your Pokemon healed, they'll switch up the camera angle to be on the left or right side, just to make it interesting.
Nice. _________________

I tried to stay apathetic like I've always done, but I wound up spending a total of about two hours just thumbing through wikis in spite of myself, catching up on all the stuff I missed/never knew back when I was even playing these games. Nintendo flimflammed me into owning every version of each game prior to Crystal and I somehow played through them all intently without regret, but then all I ever did was brute force my way through with the starter so it's no wonder I lost interest.
It's a good thing I may not ever own a 3DS because there's just no place in my life for this time vampire
EDIT: But man I can't stop thinking about what I'd want my dream team to be and that immediately traps me in wiki limbo because there are too many mons to even mentally process now. Xatu is my only constant |

having still never played any pokeymans and having never really cared before, either, i'm sort of between "whoa people are hyped up for this and idk maybe it's a fun thing to chill with" and "ehhh i still have smt4 and etrian odyssey 4 and would like to play lots of other things..." but i can just about see the appeal and the X version deer looks like some crazy miyazaki creation or something. hm hm hm. _________________

One thing I've been thinking about is whether they've made even more obscure evolution conditions this time. I mean, let's recall some of the tricks you have to pull in the previous games:
How are you even meant to work out some of this stuff??
What if there's a new Shedinja in the offing, and if you don't have 5 or less mons in your party, you flat-out miss out???

Yeah, they should have just called this Pokemon Red/Blue 2: The New Generation.
Only 3hrs in, and I just picked got a Squirtle for oldtimes sake. Man, it feels great.
Nostalgic sprinkles on top of this great sundae.
This game is just plain fantastic.
I kind of wish they would remake Dragon Quest IX with this interworkings of this new Pokemon. The online is done so right and easy.
You never feel alone when got an internet connection and playing Pokemon X/Y.
Trade, battle, and interact, this game is just packed to the brim with extras.
And the world! Fun and full of life!
I'm loving this game. _________________ http://www.iamthefourth.com/ |

My favorite obscure evolution method was in Platinum where to evolve grass or ice Eevee, you had to walk around a grass stone/ice stone in the middle of their own obscure areas of the map and then level them up around it. Why would you ever do this outside of this one reason?
They were pretty cute evolutions though.
Wait, how do I get a Fairy Eevee? No spoilers but someone give me a hint.
Also found out on Tumblr that the scatterbug's butterfly form has different colors depending on what area of the world it evolves in. I evolved mine early on so it's gross and brown instead of cute and pink. I had the first notion that it was going to have something like this when I noticed the first gym leader's butterfly thing looked totally different from mine. Bug-envy. _________________

yeah there's one guy you gotta evolve by turning your 3ds upside down !!! !
that is delightful. there is a lot of really great considerations though: you fight a lot of mr. mimes in this one mirror filled area. you can imagine they practice their miming at the mirrors.
there is a lil krill my brother has in X that is attached to a huge cannon that looks like a real mean fish. you can logically make the step that this is so done so that predators would mistake the cannon as the creature and so encourage them to rethink their meals. _________________
