Having remarkably good luck this week getting shinies with no effort. Wound up getting a shiny Pancham first thing when entering a Friend Safari, and got a shiny Kakuna on Wonder Trade tonight.
Other trick that isn't immediately obvious: you can milk Wonder Trade for Rare Candies. Short version is, each trade you complete gives you Pokémiles, and Pokémiles can be redeemed for items in Lumiose's Pokémon Center or on Pokémon Global Link (at a ~50% rebate). A Rare Candy is 250 Pokémiles on the Web store, and on average, 15 trades gets me about 1000 Pokémiles. |

This isn't quite the case:
As you can see on the right column, Electric does normal damage to Steel. Why not super-effective? Well, considering how much Steel does resist, I guess it'd be correct to rationalise that Electric simply bypasses Steel's normal armour (Much like how Water, Ghost and Dark do now).
Now that I've been thinking I'm suddenly wondering how Electric beats Flying, anyway. |

i guess i'm at Victory Road, which means i'm almost at the end of the (main) game?
thoughts going through my mind: dear god, the amount of random battles. also, the whole HM system is absolutely ridiculous. i feel pretty severely limited as to which Pokémon i can have in my party at any given time. if they don't have some of the right field abilities, i can't progress. and, of course, if i do have a Pokémon who has that ability, but isn't in my party because i simply don't find it useful...well, i have to go alllllll the way back to a Poké Center to switch?!
argh. i dunno; it's just one of those things that isn't the hugest issue, but it definitely feels more annoying than it needed to be. and the fact that i can't just overwrite HM abilities on the fly is also a nuisance.
anyway, question: i've played against a number of people who seem to use less than 6 (usually 3 or 4) Pokémon in battles. is this like, an etiquette thing, that i'm unaware of? or are these people just being weird? |

| Nah, apparently carrying just three Pokemon (presumably four as well) is a "power-leveling" strategy -- the guy sitting next to me at work did it and beat the game over the weekend after release that way. |

I enjoyed beating Platinum with a Piplup. Beating the E4 with a 1st evolution starter is the best way to play. (I deposited my starter into a box and haven't used it since in X though) _________________

The Champion in B/W2 is a twist if you've played through B/W1! Also you encounter them earlier too.
In Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, you encounter the Champion a couple of times on the journey and she helps you out to fight the gang of the region, I think. Also she shows up in B/W and B/W2 because she's the best.
Speaking of which, the champion of Ruby/Saphire/Emerald shows up in Platinum and gives you his house that you then can decorate and chill out at, and gym leaders and other NPCs come to visit you and hang out in the house every day. That was a pretty cool feature! Total hang out game right there. _________________

well pokemon is primarily marketed to kids, so it is never going to be super tough.
if you want a "tougher" poke journey i've always enforced the Nuzlocke challenge on my playthroughs. granted, the only poke games i've played were blue and gold.

so i beat this game and now i'm battlin' people and gettin' and raisin' more rare pokemans and BATTLIN'.
this was a cute game; i'm happy i played it. the story has some cute, positive messages, too. if i had children, i'd let them/want them to play it. it's a feel-good kind of game, really, which is what i needed right now.
soooo anyway, as i said, i've been getting into battles and i can see that there's kind of a threshold before you actually need to get "into" it in a way that i'm not sure if i want to let myself do. also, in ranked matches etc., they have banned pokémon? crazy! what the hell did i get this mewtwo for?!
also, the passersby system is cool, but like...not-seemingly-well thought out? having 2000 names rush by on the bottom of the screen isn't really a great way to trade/battle/help. or, i wish there were filters, like, this person has played for so many hours. if i see a person with over 180 hours, i am certainly not going to challenge them. |

It's not nuts because it's annoying as hell to fight a child that has a team of 6 legendaries.
Though it's sometimes fun to make an anti-legendary team and then sweep their dragons with a fairy or something. This has been my dream for 5 generations. _________________

On that end of the spectrum, I wonder what the most broken team you could possibly have is. Not counting multiples of the same species or the same hold items, what is the most powerful Pokemens?
I'm thinking a form of Deoxys, a Mewtwo, Giratina, Rayquaza, a legendary bird or two, or a few Dragons. _________________

For the most powerful non-Legendary team of Pokemon*, choose six of the following:
Dragonite
Tyranitar
Salamence
Metagross
Garchomp
Hydreigon
Goodra
*List does not include Slaking. While statistically the most powerful non-Legendary Pokemon, Slaking can only use a move once every two turns. _________________

The word is out that all the mons in this picture without extant Megastones will probably be receiving event-only Megastones in the coming years or upon release of Pokemon Z.
Man, this mega-evolution thing is a goldmine for event mon restriction. It's like 50 different Mews! |
