Edit: Server is up: ballsworld.letsneverdie.net:50301 - PM me or ask in IRC for the password. Current game mode is Take The Halls, but we did Sandbox last night too. Will take any suggestions to change game modes at the drop of a hat.
Hello,
I am tired so I won't write much in this first post but as I play more, I will. I remember playing earlier builds of this but it's much more polished now and has an actual single player tutorial and some fun missions.
However, the real fun of the game lies in the crazy team-based PVP. Most of the modes involve resource gathering and building that should feel familiar to Terraria players, but is a bit simplified to allow room for the combat and physics. Physics play a huge part of the game, with bomb and trebuchet causing all sorts of chaos, not to mention sharks and magic(!?).
Unlike Minecraft and Terraria, if you plan to build a tall, ungainly rampart or tower you better hope that you've supported it properly, otherwise a well-placed powder keg (or boulder with enough force) will cause it to come tumbling down. Nothing's worse than having your cozy archer perch tumble beneath you and dying in the wreckage!
Okay, okay, I promised myself I wouldn't write this much while so tired but let me do a bit of explaining of game modes and classes:
There are three classes, each with quite a lot of depth to them:
Archer: The low-health, fast-moving (has hookshot/grappling hook!), precision-aiming (the firing mechanics are great and you have a few special moves that are devastating if timed right, not to mention various arrow types) sniper-ish class
Knight: The close-up melee class. Can use shield as a (huh) shield as well as a parachute if held above head when jumping/falling. Again, there's a variety of special moves based upon timing and aim with the sword.
Builder: The 'Everything Else' class. He can build much like in Terraria. A proper 'base' or 'series of outposts' is very very important, to keep raw materials flowing in and proper goods in production. The entire team can vote upon the 'research paths' for what the various workshops research and produce. Builder is no good in a fight, but can create devastatingly comedic traps that are a ridiculous pleasure to watch in effect.
The game types:
Team Deathmatch: really needs no explanation. You start in a sort of symmetrical area and attempt to wreck the other team using mostly combat, but defenses and traps do come in handy.
Capture the Flag: yes, yes, the game types might sound boring but the blend of strategy, action, and chaos make these pretty fun. This is another one that doesn't need much explanation. There's a variety of ways to trip up a flag holder, such as forcing them to navigate a treacherous maze full of boulders and spikes on their return path if they ever do get lucky enough to snag your flag (my method of choice).
Take the Halls: Perhaps the most 'King Arthur's Gold' mode. In this game type, you have a variety of 'halls' which represent little townships full of people that can be used to work in your various production workshops. Whoever controls all of the halls wins, and controlling the halls gives you the resources to build your crazy war machines (ballistas, longboats, etc)
There are a few other game types, not to mention the single player stuff, but those are the big ones.
Okay, I'm tired. I took some screenshots but they are pretty boring. You really need to see it in motion. Anyhow, you can also ride sharks, have ridiculous lengthy sword duels, knock snipers out of towers by literally knocking the towers over, throw corpses of vanquished foes back into their brethrens' camp (again, one of my favorites), push helpless (up close) archers into a pit you dug to the bottom of the world full of spikes when a simple sword swing would have done just fine...
Screenshot dump:
Boring but non-jpeg'd ones:
Getting a little base going just after match start
Lordin' over some townspeeps
Gross ones:
Ahh, sharks and grapplins
Dangerous Awesome Tower

this game seems cool to me because it is based on a SNES game.

| I'm trying to find out some word, one way or another, whether this is true, aside from the name and maybe the sprite style...from what I know of King Arthur's World, it was sort of like Lemmings. |

Just popping in to say that I updated the header image to a much more annoying one of a shirtless horse headed man and I found out that you can 'ski' on your shield as a knight! Now it reminds me of Tribes which is probably something it was already doing and why I was liking it so much.
Edit: Here's a short 30 second highlight from tonight's stream. Here's a link to the Full half-hour stream.
