i really really love rogue, and it's variants. i really really hate most of the rl-like-like swill that has come out in spelunky's wake, and hey, here's a game that's doing it right.

i know it's sort of shitty to say 'trust me i've played it, it's good', but yall:

this game is a true heir to the subgenre spelunky staked: creator derek yu name dropped the game during an interview on the podcast 'roguelike radio', essentially passing the torch.

help this thing happen.

tyriq has worked on art for those beautiful but terribly executed wayforward games, he's due some comeuppance.

Hoping this gets funded so I can buy it when it's released. Timing's not working out for Kickstarters right now, but I'm stoked to play it.

I remember you linked to it in another thread and I thought it looked good then. I hadn't seen that rock video though: it's made me much more interested.

The graphics bug me. Seeing that type of smooth lighting with low resolution, low colour games always scrapes my teeth. Not enough to make me not want to play it though. The player sprite is pretty dull too.

what all is in this category of roguelike platformers you have such disdain for?

-Risk of Rain
-Rogue Legacy
-Red Rogue?
-Terraria?
-A Valley Without Wind?

yeah this is just as much a typical hype thread as a panhandling thread, please do join in my froth for this game.

blueb, i wasn't so hot on the art style either, but i warmed up to it. it looks good in motion, i think.

an infinitely more rewarding tangent: Racjin, developer of Snowboard Kids also made Wizardry: Tales of the Forsaken Land

I do indeed want to play this and want it to be a good game. I've been burned on far too many kickstarted games so far, but I will watch with interest.

Tyriq had a fully playable alpha/beta version in fall of 2011 (I played it at TIGJam). If it seems like his timeline is compressed, it's not – he's already reasonably close to the finish line.

I just noticed this on Greenlight (and approved for release). Poking round the Tumblr it looks like it's still set for release at the end of this year, or maybe very early 2015 :)

Also saw that he streams his game making over here sometimes: http://www.twitch.tv/fourbitfriday/

Yeah, I think I've warmed too. Especially with all that smooth animation and rolling about and such.
