I've only watched two episodes so far, but it looks to be one of the most self-indulgent, in-jokey, alcohol-soaked running commentaries I've seen. I guess that makes it a good match for Conker's!
Marvel at the implication that Banjo-Kazooie came about because the dev team for it came in to look at the Conker alpha! Learn about how Birdy is based off of Rare's eccentric system admin! Recoil at the gratuitous casual swearing and snide comments about the state of the industry! All in high-definition regional English accents! _________________ HeavyViper@Twitter ~~~ HeavyViper@Soundcloud

Yeah this is brilliant. I misread your post at first and thought there were only two episodes available, but I guess not! Watched the first few but will definitely go through the rest when I get the chance.
Thanks for sharing! |

I watched the first few episodes and now I want to play the game. I tried it a couple years ago, but I wrote it off as Banjo Kazooie meets South Park. I wrote it off because I don't like Banjo Kazooie, or any 3D platformer besides the Marios. And maybe it is just a mediocre game, but the attention to detail and the stupid jokes might be worth it maybe?
I wonder if I should I play this or the remake, or just watch the rest of the videos. |

These made me dig up my N64 copy and start replaying it.
In my opinion, Conker is one of the best N64 games, just behind Mario 64 as my favorite for the system. I always felt it got unfairly shit on during its release, though I can kind of understand why, replaying it now. I think it came out just as people were starting to really turn against cutscenes in games, and lots of the ones in Conker aren't really lough out loud funny. A lot of the humor is pretty dumb and the jokes can be a bit mean-spirited (centered around animals blowing up or getting killed).
However people should play it as it's a technical marvel and a great N64 platformer that bucked the trend of collecting loads of worthless crap to pad out game length (despite being made by Rare). You do collect things, but this seems almost incidental and there's hardly any backtracking. Plus what you're collecting isn't stars or puzzle pieces but wads of cash, and the fact that Conker is out murdering animals and swimming through feces to literally amass financial wealth is pretty funny; it always struck me as a cynical take on what corrupt morals the stars of most platformers actually possess.
Think of that level in Mario Sunshine where Mario starts ripping the legs off a squid, and just how horrifying that really is. Or the fact that he's riding Yoshi's that dissolve, with a scream, into juice when they touch water, yet he continues to use them anyway? Or how he drains the pond around the castle since, hey, he needs to (in one scene in Conker's BFD, Conker hits a switch to summon a whirlpool to get rid of some bad guys- but the first bits of the cutscene show a bunch of innocent, tropical fish getting sucked down instead). In general, Mario just does whatever he needs to in order to meet objectives, but the game is written so that it somehow always ends up being whatever the good characters want him to do. Conker does odd things because he can get money from it and doesn't really consider the ramifications. This lack of moral forethought leads directly to one of the most surprising endings in gaming history. |

man, watched all 24 eps that are available so far. The sing-along episodes (think 17-18?) are wonderful, and you can tell at every moment how they're enjoying what they are doing. It's a wonderful thing, and I cannot wait until the next batch is up. _________________
