I can comment on this since I played some of the released games last year.
From the 2013 list:
I'd say that must plays are:
Gone Home. A great narrative setup using space and text to build a world and convey three entwined plot threads.
The Stanley Parable. A must if you have ever thought about videogames at all. It's funny, too.
Additionally:
Antichamber is a pretty interesting experiment with space and aesthetics.
I hear Amnesia: Pigs Edition is like a crossover between Dear Esther and the first Amnesia, which sounds alright to me.
Path of Exile is a very solid Diablo clone (some say better than Diablo III, which might be true given the lack of money-grabbing features despite being completely free to play)
The Banner Saga looks great, but I need to put a bit more time in it. There's a free edition on Steam right now.
Gunpoint is a pretty decent puzzle-platformer-esque game with neat pixel art but unfortunately dialogue that's too self aware and meta (not in a good way)
Volgarr the Viking is a very cool, tough as nails sidescroller with strong influences from Rastan, but also Ghosts & Goblins and old school arcade sword & sorcery brawlers in general
Sportsfriends looks intriguing. There's a game by Bennet Foddy in there.
I really want to play Octodad and Barkley 2. Hecka excited for Routine. I'd have gotten Republique already (which our very own Adilegian worked on) if I had an iPad. I feel I'll have to play this game on a touchscreen larger than my phone.
Spy party, the asymmetric multiplayer game where you play either as a spy trying to infiltrate a posh party or the sniper tasked with discovering and killing him, looks great. I've applied for a beta ages ago but no luck so far.
Quadrilateral Cowboy sounds like a game I'd like in concept. Let's hope the execution is up to par. _________________ Guayaba 2600 |
