GG2 is a single point in space in which fighting games, arena fighters, musous, tower defenses, real time strategizers, RTS with unit control and maybe a half-dozen other concepts have collapsed together in defiance of any attempts to ever chart the growth and influence of each
Mount & Blade isn't technically musou, right?
But could you mod it into musou? |

Well when you do get Jedi control for a short time it kind of becomes Musou I guess. _________________

Dracula: Are there electric guitars in everything?
BRET HART: yes. this is hand downs prob the worst warriors soundtrack
BRET HART: or not, i forgot most of them at this point
BRET HART: the zelda soundbites make for such awful sound design in a musou game
Dracula: It's weird how this is kind of the first time you ever interact with Hyrule infantry actually doing stuff besides guarding halls or falling on their butts because of a cutscene Ganon
Dracula: The music is just a wall
Dracula: DEMON DRAGON with goofy N64 Stalchildren below
Dracula: At least it's consistent and keeps them as effectual as they were in OoT
BRET HART: im glad that link runs 50 miles per hour
Barack Metal: does he? Just how big is hyrule field!?
Dracula: 500 miles wide
BRET HART: everyone in dynasty warriors runs even faster tho, so link is still a slowpoke for musou
Barack Metal: woof... and all they could manage is a stable and dairy farm
Grumbum: this game looks really bad
Dracula: Is this really the final stage? Nothing is happening
BRET HART: yes
Barack Metal: do things usually happen in musou final stages?
BRET HART: not really but sometimes they have traps
Dracula: This music for 20 minutes...
Grumbum: i'm OWNING all this opposition that doesn't oppose
Jean Claude Vans Warped Tour: did samurai warriors have strafing of any kind?
BRET HART: if you hold down guard you can strafe, but it's not like target an enemy and strafe
Jean Claude Vans Warped Tour: yeah now I remember
BRET HART: some musou games have targeting tho, like one piece musou
Dracula: This is the worst beast Ganon
BRET HART: did you skip ahead
Dracula: Of course. I wasn't going to watch 10 minutes of Link dashing around through skellies
BRET HART: i liked how the ganondorf fight is just link spamming everything while ganondorf cant do anything, despite ganondorf having power armor
Dracula: He can throw shitfits and make skeletons fly
BRET HART: it's like, here's 4 phases of boss with slightly different attack
BRET HART: solution: use a different tool on him in each phase
Dracula: Sounds like a Zelda boss
BRET HART: well i mean, that can be executed in an okay way
BRET HART: but this is a musou game, so it's like
BRET HART: lol
Grumbum: perfect ending note to video
Grumbum: well i'm hyped
Grumbum: for this turgid piece of shit |

after much reconsideration, Diablo and its clones/ripoffs/buddies are the Western version of Musou
I like those games too _________________

There were Lord of the Rings games in the PS2 generation based on the Two Towers and Return of the King movies that were pretty Musou. Me and my musou buddy spent a lot of time on the Return of the King one in particular.
I haven't played any musou games in a long time, but I remember Samurai Warriors 2 easily being the best, with 1 being an interesting experiment that didn't quite come together the way 2 did and 3 being a lot like 2 but with some of the sheen worn off. _________________

In the game's defense that video looks like it's on normal difficulty, which no one should ever play a musou on.
Hyrule Warriors's lead game designer is Takahiro Kawai so I think it will be a fun musou (he was lead game designer for Ken's Rage 1, One Piece 1 and 2, and Samurai Warriors 2 which Renfrew just mentioned above^^^^). |

I for one think it's great that, within the space of a month, North America is getting 4 different musous, one of which is solely predicated on showing boobs
also disappointed that DQ Heroes's TGS video isn't here yet, even though that isn't a musou according to the developers _________________

sorry diplo and diplo's IRC friends who I will never meet, I think Hyrule Musou is rad as fuck
dumb rock laid over dumb Zelda music making some kind of weird mix of Zelda orchestral rock and ska
digging the dodge, though I'm wondering who brought that to the table (it being a 3D Zelda thing, Team Ninja doing it or just for flavor) _________________

| I haven't seen how it works in Zelda but One Piece Musou 1 is the first musou I saw to have a dedicated dodge button (which dropped the jump button) that worked for not only evasion but for combo cancels, Bayonetta style dodge offsets, and some other interesting techniques. Naturally One Piece Musou 2 retained it but Fist of the North Star 2 also adopted the dodge button afterwards although that game didn't utilize it very well. |

you can combo cancel, but not dodge offset. it works pretty decently because they enjoy dropping Zelda bosses (with boss appropriate strategies, like feeding dodongos bombs) onto the battlefield at the end of missions _________________
